The thing is, the Gunblade is dumber than both the Keyblade and Buster Sword I mean realistically you could use the KB as s club and if your were fighting on the moon (low gravity) you could use the BS effectively. The GB on other hand sucks in any situation or for any purpose.

They explicitly mention that it's an extremely impractical weapon, with a super-high skill requirement to even wield without having it blow up in your face. He chose it so that people wouldn't want to team up with him. But because he's a protagonist, and just so good, he ends up being one of the highest-scoring cadets both on and off the battlefield. It's a big part of his character development that (he thinks) he wants to be alone, but people flock to him because he's such a good leader, and a good person, even though he makes a big deal out of not wanting to lead, and not caring. The idea of people wanting to be around him baffles and terrifies him almost as much as the idea of being around other people.

Props to Woolie's guide book coaching and Matt's performance against Leon. Edit: I really hate that Leon tells you "not to deal with the small fry" because so many first players just take it as "don't fight anything." So easy to get killed that way.
Really? When I first played it, I killed everything in sight. Left none alive. Although I was less than 10 during the time, and young me in video games was "don't care about story or talking, just do the thing and kill everything."
@@pikmineer It's certainly a case by case basis, but I've now seen 3 LPs where the player takes the message very literally and just runs from enemies, taking unnecessary damage.
Weird to extrapolate 'don't bother fighting the grunts, we need to take the leader' to 'if you so much as bump the shoulders of one of these enemies I will brick your fucking console, don't even look at the attack button' But I'm the kinda person who'll do things just to actually have a game say 'wrong, try again' rather than just assume how something works and hamstring myself after years of this shit.
I actually completely forgot that Yuffie in Kingdom Hearts 1 (and Advent Children) was voiced by Christy Carlson Romano, Ren Stevens and freakin' Kim Possible herself. I'm gonna asy this a lot, but the Kingdom Hearts voice cast is weirdly high profiled.
2 and Birth by Sleep are even higher profile; Christopher Lee as DiZ, Leonard Nimoy as Xehanort, and Mark Hamill as Eraqus! Disney sure must've let Square borrow some of their clout to get those guys.
And in KH2 onward, she's voiced by Mae Whitman, also known as Roxy Richter in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and Katara in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Asides from a couple exceptions here and there, the KH voice cast is no joke.

FYI the scene in 4:30 was added in final mix, and therefore wasn't dubbed in English, that's why there's no sound and all added scenes with dialogue won't have any voice work.

@@MEMUEROOO That would actually be a neat idea, but I don't think they'll do that unfortunately. It would indeed be nice to see how Woolie feels about the gameplay, it seems like the kind of thing that would gel well with him, like he would immediately pick it up with a good deal of proficiency once he works out the kinks.
He is probably a lot better when he doesn't feel pressured by the "live camera/microphone". What i wonder is WHY does he just not give the controller to Woolie for once in this LP's. It's almost like during the shitstorm. Hell it's giving me the slight impression this channel is slowly becoming the Matt channel feat. Woolie/Pat. I know is not true, but that thought really scares me for some reason.
I dunno he has his own channel where he updates with regular content. He just tends to prioritize jokes over actually playing the game (that can be a mistake when he is with Woolie as he also do this).

Dear god that was one of the most infuriating things I ever witnessed. I was screaming "Just double tap X!!" I know Matt can be dense, but come on dude, I know you're better than that.
Even more frustating with Matt not bothering to check his STOCK ITEMS. They also skipped the explanation for magic and abilities. I hope Matt decides to stop one second and check his menu instead of constantly move just to make jokes.
I love how during the Ansem name drop, the name drop of one of the most important characters in the entire story, Matt and Woolie are talking about the Aerith-Aeris debacle.
I seriously am loving this play through and I think it's fantastic so far, but we reached the moment that I knew we would come to. Matt said in a earlier video that the little green blobs enemies drop is exp when it's really just health. So, when Matt was low on health he ran back to the store rather than killing some enemies and getting his health back quicker. Hopefully he figures out the difference soon...
And with the true power of LP Funsies, it is the parking lot that will give them the most trouble of any of the story boss fights, just like it has for so many others (except Liam, who absolutely stomped Roxas on the second try).

@@deadpope66 It's Matt locking on with the camera but then saying it's not locked on, not knowing how to use potions for a solid 30 seconds, complaining about not having any potions to buy potions and then never equip them and yet we still don't have a game over. Also it was Billy pulling the Mech City upload and quickly uploading this instead before people could finish it. They were still within 15 minutes of the regularly scheduled videos.

U ever get those playthroughs where u are so invested that u are actually waiting for the next episode to come out in the back of ur head? Yeah this is one of them, lightning in the bottle. Also (I'm guessing they are filming these in bulk and my comments are too late) but most of those abilities (like Sliding Dash) are just added to ur basic combo so like there isn't a special thing u have to press to get them. There are a few later on but yeah u will see. Also congrats on beating Leon in ur first playthrough, very rare to see that

And then in like Part 3 or 4, they got an item that straight-up says "You can use this to heal when out of battle." But now, in Part 5, the minute they're low, they're just like "Lets run all the way back to the item shop." like there's no other option at all here.

the reason it's like that is actually kinda stupid it was added in the Final Mix version of the game, but since that version was japan exclusive for a while, they couldn't get Riku's VA back in at the time to record for it... thus silent riku

I was hoping the guard armor fight will finally show Matt that the HP orbs are HP orbs and not XP orbs as he thinks they are, but so it continues it seems. And after that getting to 3rd district mayhem, god help us on deep jungle and wonderland.
I know you're trying to do this quickly for the sake of keeping this Let's Play interesting. But you're shooting yourselves in the foot by avoiding fights.
I like how Woolie is now taking the role of Pat for Matt in what appears to be the hardest souls-like ever created. Goodbye dropped shields, hello don't finish combos.
So, a tip for people playing this game for the first time when it comes to Donald and Goofy. Only give them mega-potions/ethers. The AI is notorious at wasting items at inopportune times, screwing you over later when you really need healing. But if you give them mega-potions/ethers, then whenever they use an item to top themselves off, you'll get topped off too so you'll end up in less dire situations!
It's great to watch them making fun of the parking lot because I have no doubts that when they actually reach that scene they're going to completely unironically mark the fuck out at how hype it is.
Today's Kingdom Hearts Tid bit: Originally Rikku was going to take Yuffies character role, but as Woolie mentioned in an earlier part, having two Rik(k)us would be confusing for players, so instead Rikku shows up as a vary minor character in Kingdom Hearts II, and even then her name is never said out loud and only found in her character bio in Jiminys journal

Word of advice Matt, now that you’ve got Donald and goofy in your party, there should be a place in the pause menu where you can set how you want them to behave making them act more offensive, defensive, and stuff like that. I found it really helps in battle
To be fair tho, this game is slow as hell. Especially the first few worlds. And EXTRA especially this being their first playthrough. At least it sounds like Woolie has a guide on hand

Matt should really learn how to tech guard/block which was the whole point behind fighting Wakka, Tidus, and Selphie on the beach--to teach you that mechanic. You can use it everywhere to save your ass.

I'm genuinely not sure how to feel about Leon's voice. I'll be real, the voice acting for it sounds really flat and kinda bad, but... I can't help but feel like that's all too fitting for Squall.
R1 to target, R2, L2 cycle targetable objects/enemies. parry is vital, always equip items after using any. AP level determines abilities you can equip, (ability points) always use dodge roll over block. Play this game like it's dark souls, honestly.
It's been so long since I played the original game and I have to get used to the fact this Sora actually sounded like a kid and not a grown man like the rest of the games. By the way, is Yuffie voiced by the same VA as the one in Advent Children? And nice to see Leon/Squall from the popular game, Triple Triad.
