They should really consider putting this on the back burner and passing it off to Pat once he is feeling better. It's fine if Matt doesnt want to play it, but the community is pretty hype to see this.
They should also consider switching from the PS2 version to either the PC or Xbox version as well. The PS2 port really isn't all that good by comparison.
I feel like thats more due to Woolie not letting it go to pasture over here where, say want you will about the quality of the game, Matt isnt afraid to can something he isn't enjoying. Remember, Woolie finished Ultra Despair Girls and that was a known mistake after episode 2

Man, today is just a disappointment. Matt backs down SUPER HARD, Stan Lee is with the greats now, and Pikachu gets told "Up yours" by Mr. Mime in cinemas. Hoo boy, gotta get some candles so I can see 3 feet in front of me in this dark timeline.
I kinda think it's amazing how Matt goes through the trouble of getting a custom, well-made intro for this LP and gives up on it after one recording session.
@@SolemnBravadoReal omikron is a great point to make. So is Tokyo Mirage Sessions a fun JRPG that is too long for anyone to commit to watching an LP of. But even I was getting a feeling of this game being prolly more fun to play yourself rather than make an LP of it or watch an LP of it
Solemn Bravado they played Omikron BECAUSE it was bad tho - thats what made it entertaining. They WANTED it to be painful to play, plus the David Cage meme/hatred so they felt they HAD to do it. They wanted Psychonauts to be fun to play, & it wasnt for at least one of the only 2 ppl who were initially interested in playing it. It wouldnt have been entertaining to continue this LP cuz their commentary wouldve been flacid - they dont dislike it in a passionate enough way. Itd be excrutiating to watch especially if you like the game. You expect a Cage game to be bad but this is hailed as a classic so you'll be more critical of it, especially when theres millions of games to play. Its not just games around the time controlling better like Sly Cooper, fucking Super Mario 64, a game much older, controls better than this. If ur not feeling the gameplay, & ur not SUPER into the artstyle, humour & characters, this game has nothing for you.
Its weird that Matt didn't feel comfortable doing a platform-heavy game considering they did mario odyssey, but no LP is better than an LP where they don't want to play
lol they've done plenty of those. It's becoming more about what they want and less about what the fans want, and they wonder why the sub count continues to drop and viewership continues to decline.
I think Woolie was on the sticks for that one -- correct me if I'm wrong. Matt has caught a ton of flak in the past over his gameplay -- I don't blame him for feeling anxious over potential angry mobs. They don't like to edit their videos a ton, so cutting away from a string of failed runs isn't going to happen.
I think Psychonauts is peachy king, but it doesn't control nearly as well as Mario Odyssey. Even in the context of its era, this game's platforming was fussy. It's not hard to imagine this heightening a person's performance anxiety.
I'm more surprised they could finish stuff like Omikron or Ride to Hell. Matt will only finish a difficult game if it's tough because it's broken and unplayable, and hilariously bad.
Tommy Daig To be fair, Ride to Hell is when Matt actually gave a shit. He's become so bitter and jaded, to the point he spends most of the LP recordings on his cellphone. The only games he feels comfortable playing now are narrative driven adventure games, because those play themselves.
I think it's not so much that he doesn't give a shit, I think that having so many little series on his own channel is burning him out a bit. Pat and Woolie use their channels for their own little LPs and to post their streams. Matt does this too, but also does his what happened show, Edgelords, Bug Report, and other stuff, which require him to do research and write a script rather than just say whatever like in a regular LP. I think putting so much on his plate is making it harder for him to give a shit.

Nils Lutefisk is voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey, she was Waspin Avengers EMH, Jazz Fenton in Dany Phantom, has done MANY anime dubs, but I think Matt recognizes her as the current voice of Tails in Sonic Boom.

Minor spoilers: You only find out by collecting all the movie reels, but psychic powers are developed by experiencing extreme trauma. Each of the counselors have an event that gave them power, such as Sasha who saw the orphanage she worked at burn down with the kids inside and Nein experiencing the death of his mother and trying to repress his emotions. You also see this somewhat by interacting with the campers like the cheerleading duo who appear super happy but feel so inadequate compared to the other campers they make a suicide pack. The game isn’t just funny adventure but has a deeper narrative if you take the time to try to complete the game.
I thought they had psychic powers because of the Psitanium mutating humans though this explanation would make sense considering most of the characters seem a tad bit fucked up.
MysteriousTomJenkins No, the Psytanium acts as a psychic regulator, preventing the kids’ powers from going wild until they have better control of it. Again minor spoilers, but this is seen when going to Ford’s underground lair. Ford is the headmaster of the camp and is the old man that you see around the camp (the cook, ranger, etc). He acts crazy because his mind was destroyed when he was an active agent and only regains his sanity in his lair where the largest deposit of Psytanium is located.

Psychics just appear sporadically, and the trauma is somewhat of an unfortunate commonality In Milla's case, she was always psychic, so she heard all the kids screaming inside her head as they burned to death. Sasha was cognizant from a young age and developed extreme control over his emotions to cope with his mother's death and avoid the pain that stems from emotional attachment. And Psitanium isn't a regulator, it's an amplifier. Ford says himself that 'it makes psychics more psychic, but it makes insane people more insane", hence why the area of Whispering Rock has been plagued by madness ever since the meteor containing the ore landed there. He's only sane because the Psitanium rock in his secret lair bolsters his psychic abilities to the point where he can pull his weak and shattered psyche back together into something coherent.
Psychonauts was one of the first things Liam tackled after breaking it off, and the difference between him and these bumble kings with four sets of eyes AND a guide open is incredible.
So they make a three part quick look and do nearly nothing in the 3rd part but faff about. Watching matt slap stuff at the end rather than go to the very obvious room he's supposed to go into was painful.
@@spaciouswheat4580 Despite that he says several times that he's looking for plot, and that in their crippling blindness they don't know plot is instantly another level. The snip snip where they cut back to in front of progress and still don't is probably where they looked that up and decided they had enough footage, but before that is Matt getting the door open and then turning around and spending who knows how long before the snip snip on durdling while internally fapping to gps voices.
Maybe play this again when Pat's feeling better, a shame Matt didn't feel like continuing on too, he's gonna miss out on something that would undoubtedly bring his mood back up.
Its weird how Matt just never has liked playing like. Almost any actual game. At least on camera it seems like he doesn't enjoy playing anything in gaming other than narrative driven games
They've done dozens of short series where they only make like 3 or 4 videos on a game before. What's the point of suddenly acting like it's a big deal now?

Such a disappointing ending, There's so much to this game, The milk man, Godzilla stage, and so soooo much more. Damn, Really need to double take on this for the love of all the people who watch your videos. You are missing out.
I still would really like woolie and mats' like take on the humor in a lot of later parts and even pat would have some interesting shit to complain about, If liam hadn't died they could have just asked him how good it was. Too bad they will never know
Just as a heads up to anyone who's gotten interested in this game from the little look here. Psychonauts is currently 10 bucks on steam and is good port. And there is a lot, and I mean a LOT more creative worlds, dialogue, and interactions with all the kids at the camp. I just started replaying it and have been having a blast.
Don't let Psychonauts ending distract from the fact Billy exposed his balls on live stream. Not even his prostproduction Stand powers can save him from The Shame now. (I might watch this video a second time.)

How am I here? Wasn't this taken off earlier? Ah well, happy you guys gave it a shot, if only for an hour. I really enjoyed a lot of the level designs in this game, I encourage anyone interested to give it a shot.
On second thought its probably for the best they don't force a playthrough. This game should be enjoyed and savored at one's leisure. I hope they at least find time to play it on their own because this is really a great game.

@@Wolf_ManJack Even without Matt's recent issues, (I feel bad for the guy), his attitude's been rough lately. Reaching Game Grumps levels of "I'm doing poorly, it's the game's fault." The channel, ever since the Matt Retrieval Arc, feels more like Pat and Woolie as the Two Best Friends with Matt being an extra. I'm not complaining, Pat/Woolie are a perfect combo. Funny that at the start they never worked together because Pat didn't feel it would do well.
Considering Matt and Woolie’s track record, plus Matt’s apprehension, I’d rather this be a short session than a full LP. Everyone’s mood will be better off.
Cody Berman Yeah but it’s like Matt always reiterates: things are best when they’re either a 10/10 or a 1/10. Silent Hill 2 was amazing because it was a 10, and Omikron was amazing to watch because it was a hard 1. Both of these LP’s are ultimately great because for better or for worse they held everybody’s attention. You may feel differently, but I’m not a big fan of when they boys are apathetic about a project, but stick with it until the end because that’s what they do. I admire them for seeing things through almost 100% of the time, but I’m glad they’ve decided to not dedicate a month or so of their schedule to something they weren’t feeling strongly about. It shows that they’re getting smarter about they way they use their time, which is both good and also the very worst thing ever.
You know, I always hear about the “great classics” like Banjo-Kazooie, and end up playing them and not liking them. This, I can see myself really liking.
I normally avoid platformers/collectathons like the plague and I absolutely adore this game. Have it on PC through steam, and while to my understanding all versions have some issues here and there, I don't think I ever encountered anything when I was playing, so that's what I'd recommend.
At least they didn't get me excited for the meat circus only to backdown during the underwater slow scroll level. Thanks for the quick look and I hope woolie at least plays it in his spare time. Fantastic game and I hope the sequel delivers. And call me old fashioned but I love the ending where the day is saved and the hero gets the gal.
Hopefully the guys feel up to coming back to this later...this didn't seem nearly as bad as the THUG2 playthrough. Other than killing the playthrough early, I wouldn't have realized there were any doubts about the LP.
Such a shame they decided to drop this one, I always thought Psychonauts would be a great fit for a LP, maybe Pat would have been more into it? The dodgy PS2 port doesn't do justice to this game, level detail is lost to low res textures and the devs put so much effort in making every aspect of each "mind" fit a certain theme. Really wish they'd given the PC version a shot.
