Under a tenth of a second difference is nothing to be ashamed of... and seeing that Evo X get all that air, doing rally shi.. stuff brings a smile to my face. Great battle gentlemen!
watching the side by side the EVO driver had superior lines, and just seemed to be an overall more instinctual driver. the CTR has a higher power to weight ratio which is probably what edged out that tiny victory. if both were to drive the same car, the evo driver would win.
Exactly, 100% agree, Evo IS the best handling car, and its affordable to everyone! Too bad he could have made its handling even better w wider tires like 265/35R18 at least....
Pretty nice to get a good recommendation from the algorithm, and for it to be on a track in my state. Last week, it was a video of a Drift Appalachia event in Southern WV, this week I get a Time Trial shootout at Summit Point. Good stuff.
A 275 vs 245 tire width does make a big difference, given how close these two were, and then the fact that Type R had to run his heat at full blast on a 93 degree day, even with all those cooling modifications? I would say this was a huge win for the EVO. The whole point of tracking cars like this is to have fun, full blast heat on a summer day is not my idea of fun. I have a Golf R that I track occasionally and have three sets of wheel and tire setups, one is the stock 235 and the other two are 265, I find the grip difference is significant. Stock the Golf is an understeering pig, but I have done several suspension modifications (a lot more than just sway bars) so it turns in and rotates way better than a Type R, and with the AWD it comes out of corners much faster, Type R's cannot keep up. I have run both sizes with the same compound tires, and on my local club track I am almost two seconds quicker with the wider 265 tire vs the 235 (same day, same tire just different sizes). Oh and on really hot days I ease up (just a bit) and run the AC on track, it's a lot of fun.
Funny thing though, I haven’t seen any Golf Rs get silverware in Gridlife or GTA. Eddie is quick, not sure you’d be able to keep up with his times with only a few HPDEs worth of experience, but I’d encourage you to get out there to show what your mods are really doing. Remember ‘kills’ in a lapping day are nothing more than anecdotes. There’s even quicker Type Rs built to his class specs, not saying Golf Rs aren’t spicy but your comment seems to a have a bit of tunnel vision.

This is only if he still has enough energy left to invest in GRIDLIFE stuff. I've taken a look at his past GRIDLIFE Time Attack results, points-wise, he's quite good, in within Top 10 overall.
It’s interesting to hear the Evo X referred to like it’s some sort of iconic handling benchmark. It’s a great chassis sure but I’ve never heard it brown nosed in that way. I would go as far as to say the CTR is a far more track handling focused car. Specs vs times I think shows that
@@JJdaSamuRai I’ve definitely heard it’s the best handling evo chassis because of the awd system, but that only says so much really. Still a lot of other factors (weight certainly being one), I definitely don’t discount it as a great handling car but again it’s more just the manner in which they’re speaking about it throwing me off
I've seen many time attack evos, there must be a reason for that. I believe the world autocross championship was between an evo and a corvette a few years ago?.

@@aiunlock5370 Proceeds to list cars that haven't come out in the last decade. The TLX is a cookie cutter family car design. Lancer 10 looks far better than anything Honda has put on in the last decade.
Theres a lot of factors he lets be honest the the evo was undermatched. Yes its awd.... 2008 vs a front wheel drive track car thats practically gutted has way more work done suspension wise than the evo (look at the stability on both cars) and it already weights less than the evo... by alot n no seats?? No drivetrain loss. That's where the civic makes the power to pull out the corners and with the wider tires its goin to feel awd. Yeah honda did great with this car !! But mitsubishi did it in 08 in all weather and thats where it let off.
Great video , would like to see the evo on a wider set of tires tho for better comparison . however we know if it did have a set of 275 it would be faster . however one tenth off the type r is nuts ! id guess that evo is about 3400 lbs(stock 3550) vs the type r in the 3000(stock 3100) ish range . so the evo prolly is no faster with the extra hp and 5 speed vs the 6 speed in civic love the type r but didnt buy one over the simple fact of it getting hot like he stated , ended up with a SS 1LE instead .

@@ericmichel3857 I used to own 2 evo x, one mt one sst, the handling is great compare with normal sport sedans, but when I drive the brz and cayman, it’s totally different class.
