I had the 7.5 pp and I loved thar car. Unfortunately I had to sell it. If things are better I will get another performace or maybe move to the TCR. I dont like the looks of the GTI 8

They do, and it doesn't cost them much to make it drive like that, it's just R&D but once the calibrations are set, there is minimal extra cost per unit over a car that drives badly. Ford did that with Mk1 Focus.

Wheels do look great. Wasn’t a fan of the Mk8 because of the Renault sport daytime running lights....but like the clubsport a lot!

It depends. Cars built before week 38 of last year had nav on cluster. They stopped it at week 38 and since then you need Discover Pro for that feature. I've had a few updates now and none have enabled the feature

I think you can hack the system to enable it (if you know what your doing) I’ve seen a video on RU-vid. It’s bizarre that VW are charging £1600 for an option that’s on all the systems, it’s basically a case of them turning it on.

@@volkswizard of course it's all about personal choice but have a look at the white club sport pictured in Evo, car magazine and autocar personally I think they look and fit the car so much better...

Do I have that many reservations? Whatever, if you indulge in the dynamic gains that are there to be enjoyed, they right whatever wrongs there are.

The GTi is a complete package, that’s the point and has always been the deciding factor in beating the competition

@@volkswizard I did! I think the TCR is better looking with it being a 3 door, but you could see through your expressions that you were all in with the performance of the Mk8 Clubsport! The wheels look great on it, agree totally that they mesh well with the bumper trim. 👍🏻

Hi Simon, I get your point but I really like the CS. I know the TCR is more special but the CS really works for me in so many ways. If I do miss the TCR I'll buy another but for me the CS is so much nicer to drive. Plus the cash means I can go buy something truly special ;)

Hi Duncan, I secretly like the decals but using my cars for business I need to make sure I keep a relatively low key image. It is indeed 3 secs you need to hold that button down for, it's about 3.6 to do the same on 8CS. BUT if you time someone driving from when they take their left hand of wheel to when its disabled, 8 is quicker as very few people will be able to confidently find and press that button without looking down as it'd done so infrequently. With Mk8 you use the shortcut pulldown all the time for other things so it's second nature. Whatever, the point is that, contrary to nearly every report, ESC doesn't not need to be buried deep in the infotainment system and once configured, it's a marginal difference over the old car. I never switch it off anyway! I did a poll on twitter and I think 83% of people didn't touch it either. Switching off start stop is more common and same process applies.

@@volkswizard i think your right, I've never as yet turned off the esc. The only time i would turn of the esc will be on a track day, then it doesn’t really matter how long it takes as you'd set this in the pit before going out. The gripe i have with the mk7/7.5 button layout is that the esc, dcc & stop/start controls are on the wrong side for right hand drive cars. VW do all that good work to make a right hand drive car and then just leave those controls as per a left hander, crazy.

In my opinion it’s mostly the other way round...people who can’t afford to or who aren’t in the position to buy a MK8 feeling the need to validate their current cars. I like them both but if you had the money and wanted a new car now the CS is a better choice.

It truly isn't that bad. I've owned my Mk8 GTI for a month now and it's so easy to use. It's by no means perfect but I just don't get the outrage, mainly from people who haven't even lived with it.

I did the ESC on and off at speed towards the end of the video. Honestly it's no big deal. I've got no reason to make it better than it is but I do have reason to contradict the unfairly negative reports when once you get to know it, it's a really nice interface, just like my Iphone's is.

Hey Rob, negative camber on front would help, I am sure TCR can be modded to do be as good but imagine the R&D VW have done on the CS chassis? Really hard to get that perfect balance with a few bits here and there.

I think the TCR sounds better. But the clubsport bangs louder...

Good q Clive - TCR has had fakery deactivated. I haven't touched CS but unlike Golf 8 R, if it is fake is sounds great. Both pop and bang, probably a bit more often in TCR. Both cars are probably in the top 4 for best sound GTIs of the modern age, Clubsport S is the only Mk7 that made a good noise. Audio from outside the CS suggests it's pretty fruity

@@volkswizard Great video. I'm now looking at the MK8 CS as an option again. Currently have a 440i 2019 but still want a GTI I think. Will the exhaust be any better than the modern OPF of the B58 BMW engine ?

I ordered my Clubsport in the first week of January. I was told it was going to come in April, it’s now been delayed 3 times and I’ve now been told September. I asked Arnold Clark 3 weeks ago if I could swap it for a Edition 45 as long as it didn’t delay things further and they said they have absolutely no information about the Edition 45 and don’t even have any pricing for it yet. This is in the U.K. when did you order yours?

@@jryalls sorry to hear that buddy. I live in germany and ordered first of march and get it april 16. Way easier to get german stuff when u live in germany, dont know about the UK.

Well how do you work that out Do you know why the mk8 CS wasn’t called the GTI TCR? hint VW wasn’t racing anymore hence the TCR name was dropped the cs mk8 has the TCR chassis, it borrows the 7 CS s under pinnings and the 7.5 now the ECU is unlocked isn’t even on the same page tuning regarding £ for £ To get a TCR to the same tune of ours it’s gonna be stage 3 £1899!! For 458.9bhp with the TCU tune thrown in

Yes, thanks. I don't trust the bonnet to be strong enough without having a good look at how they mount it. Really don't want to damage it just for that so not going to rush into it.

They mean bugger all! When I was young and silly it was bought for a TT I'd own one day and it did end up on a quattro Sport but I just like a narrow plate.
