What I usually don’t like about beauty influencers is that their product reviews are always done from a vivential point of view and they do none or poor quality research (blogs, wikipedia, etc) regarding the ingredient list. Thank you so so so much for taking all this time and effort to actually do a beauty video that is worth watching. As a scientist, I appreciate this so much. I’m obviously subscribing. Greetings!

Kerastase “Ciment Thermique” & “Defense Thermique” stack up pretty well with the ingredient lists. Best of sephora from what i saw. Briogeo also has a heat protector with a good amount of those ingredients, but reviews say it can be drying for certain hair types.
@femalevoice_
@femalevoice_ 2 года назад
I recommend them. Ciment is too thin as a formula for my thick curly naturally hair that I strengthen so I prefer nectar thermique when it comes to feeling but they both seem to work because my hair looks much better now (I bought both because they were dirty cheap)! I only blow dry it once a week though and no other heat tools but still for 4 months and a half without having it cut they only had to remove like 2cm of hair. not a fan of the brand but the thermique ones are amazing!

@PINKDiva88
@PINKDiva88 6 месяцев назад
What she failed to mention is that there are two different types of heat protectants. Thermal for hot tools and blow dry creams for blow-drying. They are not interchangeable. Depending on what type of styling you're getting you may need both or just one of them. Not all hair types can use the same kind of heat protectant. Corser hair texters need both a cream-based heat protectant (for blow drying) and a liquid one for flat ironing. Serum's aka oils don't make good heat protectants, they fry your hair. I don't care what your stylist says. That silk press may be laid but you'll eventually end up with heat damage.

I use the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum and the ingredients don't look as promising: Cyclotetrasiloxane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Cyclotrisiloxane, Parfum (Fragrance), Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Benzyl Salicylate, Limonene, Geraniol, Amyl Cinnamal, Citronellol For the record, I am black and have fine 3B hair that has low porosity. Usually flat irons that get up to 400F are best for me but right now I am working with my GHD platinum because it was gifted to me. It only goes to 365F so I am trying to refine my technique so I can keep this great gift

Fun fact that I found out accidentally: super skinny serum DOES NOT have a heat protectant according to Paul mitchell. I have been diffusing my curls for the past 2 years and have ZERO damage 💯 My hair texture is coarse so of course this type of texture is less likely to receive damage as quickly as fine haired textures.... But can still receive damage if you are careless with heat!

My heat protectant has dimethicone, which you mentioned, but none of the other things on the list. I want to start straightening again, but not as often, so I’m glad I found this video.
@marleyhill34
@marleyhill34 3 года назад
Absolutely do not straighten your hair every day and you had the temperature too high. I have ultra-fine hair I only blowdry and straighten it every 6 weeks on a low setting like 300- 380 F/180-200 C. And I only do one pass with the iron. You might be better off blow drying it straight first only twice a week. no more. My Aveda stylist would be screaming.

So I currently have the Kenra Platinum Blow Dry Spray and was not going to repurchase it anyways because when my stylist used it at the salon we found that it left my blow outs feeling dryer than the Fantasia Hair Polisher Heat Protector Straightening Serum you mentioned, but I was not in love with the ingredients of the Fantasia Serum. This only confirms though that the Kenra Platinum , which is super expensive by the way, is not formulated with the ingredients you mentioned from the studies except polymers and some silicones. I was thinking of trying the Pantene Gold Series Heat Protection Spray next or the Tresseme Keratin Smooth ( although I am scared to put Keratin on my hair because I don't want to offset my protein balance to have protein overload.) I do however have a leave-in I think will cover me for blow-drying when I run out of Kenra, which is soon, and want to use it up before buying and trying the Pantene or Tresseme sprays. It is called Redken Extreme anti-snap anti-breakage leave-in treatment. I checked the ingredients and it has a blend of proteins, polyquats, silicones and ceramides. It's also relatively expensive but I have it so I will use it and if I find it to be really effective I might just catch it on a sale like I did when I got it and keep it in my stash. #useyourstash. Hair stats: Kinky, 4B/4C, fine strands, high porosity, medium density, medium length.

Great video and love the way you explain things! But the recommendation for Chi infra treatment confuses me. This is not a serum but a conditioner. The instructions are as followed: After shampooing the hair, apply a generous amount of CHI Infra Treatment and work into the hair evenly. Leave on hair for 2 to 5 minutes and rinse thoroughly. So after you washed out this conditioner your hair is protected against blow drying, so no need to use any other heat protectants?

Briogeo Farewell Frizz features Polyquaternium-37, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein and Glycerin as well as several high smoke point oils like coconut and argan. Works great, but it's about $6 per ounce, so looking for something that works as well that costs a lot less!

Thank you so much for this video! I always wish I could go back in time and work harder in my high school chemistry classes (back when I wasn't the one paying for my education). Now I'm trying to learn as an adult. This was both interesting and of practical use. Thank you!

So you've got me wondering how good or bad my heat protectant is. I use BTZ Beyond The Zone Turn Up The Heat Flat Iron Protection. Doesn't have one of the ingredients you mentioned 🤔 my hair always reverts though but I wonder about damage to the cuticle. Thoughts? Found you through African Hair God (Narada). Someone requested one of your videos for a livestreaam and he loved you and your knowledge about the science of hair. A bunch of us joined as a result. Love the content sis.

I use the same heat protectant although I'm searching for an alternative right now don't get me wrong the smell and shine are amazing but the shine it gives my hair fades quickly and leaves my ends dry 😥

I find Turn Up The Heat is very greasy but it works well
@rebeccabaylee
@rebeccabaylee 3 года назад
@@kapparhotau181 I think I need the greasy on my ends anyways lol I probably just need to chop some off but for whatever reason it takes my hair forever to grow back not sure if that has anything to do with my textured hair or not but I'm scared to lose my length bc of how long it's taken me

I use keracare leave in conditioner and its the best for blow drying and maintaining moisture heat protectors ruin my hair because of all the silicone ingredients feels soft for about a day then goes like straw makes my hair feel like it's coated with plastic so I always use silicone free products 👍👍✨️
