The star of this short today..... A Wax stix amzn.to/3HtQtfP
🎨🖋️ Exploring Watercolor Techniques: Wax Stick I used here, and some Masking points 🖋️🎨
Hey there, fellow artists! 👋 Today, I played with a watercolor technique I NEVER use, and I put two exciting methods in the spotlight: Wax Sticks vs. Masking. 🌟
🖍️ Wax Stick Wonder: Wax sticks are like magic wands in the watercolor world. When you use them, you create intriguing resist effects on your paper. The wax repels the paint, leaving beautiful, untouched areas that add texture and depth to your artwork. It's like a secret ingredient for adding surprises to your paintings! ✨
Perfect for a tree, sparkles on water, saving white spaces on flowers.
🎭 Masking Marvels: On the other hand, masking fluid is like a superhero's shield. It protects specific areas of your paper from paint, allowing you to maintain pristine whites or create crisp, clean lines. It's fantastic for preserving highlights and details that you want to shine in your piece. 🦸‍♀️
One big pro that you cant achieve with a wax stick...
Masking can be removed and then painted on.
Wax stick cannot be removed, I dod not feel any residue when I used .
So, which one should you choose? Well, it all depends on the effect you want to achieve. Wax sticks offer a unique, textured look, while masking fluid gives you precision and control.
Here's the scoop:
Experiment with both! 🧪 Embrace the creativity, try new things, and see where your watercolor journey takes you.
Remember, there are no mistakes in art-only opportunities to learn and grow. 🌱
Happy painting, my artistic friends! 🎨✨

At Dollar Tree they sell a rubber eraser for masking fluid. It’s almost necessary for removing mask so as to not damage the paper. They also sell them on Amazon and other art supply stores.

Another thought, a white candle is a bit more robust (although thicker) if one tends to push too hard😀

Yes, I think I might have to invest in some thicker ones. I always broke my crayons when I was little too.!!

I'm sorry you never got to do Easter Eggs when you were little. 😁The only drawback with wax is that you can't remove if. You can do the drybrush with masking fluid. And a rubber cement pick up has never damaged my good paper. But for mixed media this is a great idea!
@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy
@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy 4 месяца назад
Yes you are right Bobbie. Now that you say that I think we did use a wax crayon for easter eggs! That was so long ago I had forgotten. Im not a real patient painter, I probably didnt take the time needed to properly pull up my masking. I alo was shamed for asking about masking fuid in college vs learning to leave the white spaces! Shame on those teachers right? That was decades ago, and my teachers were definately pursists. Happy painting friend, always good to see you!

@@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy The only reason I thought of Easter Eggs is because I used to do Pyrsanky eggs which is entirely wax resist. Beeswax on a raw egg with a Speedball pen heated to apply the wax. Meticulous work but the best reveal when you melt all the wax off at the end. Love your channel and your work.

Love this. I have these too but haven't experimented yet. You could also paint with a light color, let it dry, then use the wax crayon, and then paint over that with a darker color. So that the "waxed" areas would be a light color instead of white if so desired. I've seen a wax candle used to make a window with raindrops on it, too.
@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy
@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy 4 месяца назад
Yes, absolutely you could do that. You cannot remove the wax as you can with masking but you could definitely paint first and then cover it with wax. Great idea thanks for sharing Friend.

@@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy I’m wondering what this would look like….? 🌟 If for instance if you took a green crayon and sketched out the whole internal and outside shape of a Christmas tree and then used a gold crayon to draw some small round ornaments and a gold star on the top of the tree. Then sketch a few different colored packages underneath…. Then a person’s name at the bottom of a card front. Then proceeded with a red colored wash over the whole card front leaving jagged edges around the border of the card stock. I think this would turn out pretty cool! We could make many wonderful cards throughout the year (holidays, birthdays, etc…) this way with your awesome idea’s here Debbie! This just gave me some brainstorming ideas that you started and shared here Debbie! Debbie you are one very special person and a shining star 🌟 in my life!! ❤️Love your videos! Z > Rex, from, Utah
