The engines are not the same. Starting with MY ‘23 the V8 in the X7 M60i is the S68 engine, a true M Division engine. The one in the Rover is the V8 used in the old M50i X7. A little research will show big differences between the two.
We just picked up our 24 X7 M60. We test drove Audi, Range Rover, Lexus and the Mercedes V8 equivalent of the X7 and none compared performance wise. Acceleration, handing and braking the X7 came out on top easily. Plus the interior is very beautiful too in my opinion. Very happy with ours so far. It’s fast!!
Of course the Land Rover is going to have a smoother/quieter ride… it’s on non-run flat Pirelli all season tires while the BMW is on a winter set of wheels/tires that are RFT’s.
In some ways, yes. They are great if you're leasing, but the ownership experience is horrible. They are pure garbage. Second worst car I've ever owned.
My trusted mechanic says they're some of the hardest cars to work on, and generally take more hours of labor for repairs, making them extra pricey to own in the long run. I'm sure they're great, other than that factor.
@@ThomasFerrugia oh yeah that engine is problematic from what I’ve seen. I have a old 2006 Range Rover V8 supercharged and it’s been fine but the suspension is where I’ve spent money which is expected with the air suspension. I’ll always have a reliable car (Toyota) along with my Land Rover because when they’re great they’re awesome and when they’re not they’re not. So if you ever want another I’d stay away from the 4cyl and have some money set aside for maintenance and repairs and keep a Corolla on standby 🤣.
Great review, but there are some significant technical differences between these two vehicles. The BMW X7 M60i actually gets the real full BMW M V-8 S68 engine vs. the Range Rover gets the BMW regular V-8 N63 engine. S=Sport. N=Normal. While the horsepower and torque might be similar, the X7 M60 S68 engine has over 300 different components. In addition, the gear ratios are different and the transmission is an M product that will take the X7 M60 into a whole different world. In fact, the same S68 engine is currently in the 2023/2024 BMW XM, the upcoming 2025 M5, 2024 X5 M60, and 2024 X6 M60. The X7 platform has been in production since 2018 and it is near the end of its cycle by 2025. However, the Range Rover was recently remodeled for 2023. Thus, in my opinion, it is hard to compare and contrast these two vehicles because of their significant age designs. The BMW M60 is an M ultimate driving machine while the Range Rover is a Gray Poupon. The BMW X7 M60 has an active anti-roll stabilizer that will keep this heavy long SAV balanced to fight the laws of physics during cornering, has active steering for better maneuvering in parking lots, and four-wheel steering for better U-turn ratio, something that Range Rover doesn’t have. They are both great cars. I’ve owned Range Rovers before, and they are full of issues, troubles, and problems. My last one was a 2020 Range Rover SV Autobiography. They depreciate hard, and at least in my experience, they never have been a good reliable car. If you want a Range Rover, don’t buy it, just lease it, that’s if the dealers can get off their high-horse. Most think highly of themselves. Lastly, the X7 does have an option for 7 passenger seat. The captain chairs are an option.
Good comparison. The 2023 Range Rover I believe has rear wheel steering as well. I probably will go for Range Rover. Design language of this generation Range Rover is the best of its class.
@@homelessmillionaire1 I Just got the 2024 model Range Rover, it`s a truly amazing ride. I don`t think the one he reviewed is a 2024 model because it has the climate control dials under the screen, the 2024 does not. It`s incorporated into the screen controls. I think the reputation of Range Rovers being unreliable is over played. I just traded in my 2013 Range Rover sport with 151000 miles on it and i didn`t have any major issues over the last 10 years. Perhaps i was lucky.
Range Rover is notorious for having issues. They look old now. Who still drives a range rover. Also in the comment section u sound very biased towards the Range. BMW just looks more new and has a cooler looking interior. Plus as others have noted has better performance
No lie, last week in a press Defender, Sam and I got kinda cut off at a stop light in some shitbox, man stopped, first thing we thought....carjack. Its a problem.
It has less to do with the suspension set up and more to do with BMW's run flat tires, which makes the wheels really really stiff.. I changed my BMW tires to non run flats, and it drives very similar in comfort compared to the range rover
Your verdit is subjective my friend. Love the Range. The aristocratic bearing is second only to the Rolls Royce Cullinan. Good to be seen in; Handles like a school bus. Twisty back road fun your thing, gotta test drive the Bimmer with it's fire breathing V8 😮😮😮. It's my daily driver. Won't even look at my S580 anymore.
Sam appears to have more height in the BMW's 3rd row, but It seems like the seating position is higher in the RR. His knees are much higher, and the top of the bench seems to be in line with the bottom of his calf. So if you're not >6' tall and your head isn't scraping the ceiling, the RR would likely be the more comfortable option. I've always been surprised at the relatively narrow 2nd row in the x7, definitely not as roomy as other class competitors
Good comparison! You stated the BMW is only a 6-passenger vehicle, that is incorrect. it is a 7-passenger with the option of bucket seats making it a 6-passenger
X7 looks chunky.. but for a luxury suv there’s no better option than a Rover. Maybe a Cullinan is you can afford that. Otherwise, the Rover in a 5 seat is a great alternative to an S Class. It’s more of a luxury vehicle.
@Sam , run flat tires are big factor in cabin noise and ride quality , I have my X5 and as daily driver I can tell you that run flat / non runflat are day and night difference in comfort/ride quality. The X5/X7 cabin noise is lower than even GLS Mercedes I have seen in another car channel measured by device. I’m not saying that X7 is more comfortable than RR autobiography but Tires are big factor, and I think is very very close but for the price and reliability X7 is 10 steps ahead of RR shit box .
Tires are not a big factor in ride quality- they can be a factor in some cars but in a luxury car the ride change is minimal. Mostly the road noise will be more noticeable. No matter what tires you put in the X7 - the suspension system is set up already
@@SamCarLegion Sam , I have experienced this and runflat impact the ride quality, my car has airbag too and I can see the difference, non runflat has very soft ride and makes the suspension like butter, runflat doesn’t support the suspension.
I will take the M60i everytime. Two of my friends had new Range Rovers and they were in and out of the repair/dealer shop constantly. RRs have too many issues and very are very unreliable.
Along with the new X6, this X7 might be the worst exterior design BMW has ever drawn. Bizarre. 😅 Meanwhile, in terms of design, the new Range Rover is a masterpiece.
The BMW is a worldwide vehicles. Cannot compete with the BMW, who rated high in the consumer reports. BMW rated 8.5 I wonder how the Range Rover rater i dont think as high.
@@carlmathews5778 I think you both need to do some research about RR and laugh then. But anyway no difference for ya. Doubt u can afford it. BTW Im not English speaker so this "bite" was maybe autocorrect from iPhone
@@SamCarLegion: There's more to a car than it's engine and transmission unfortunately. I owned a Range Rover Velar and the engine and transmission were the only thing that didn't break. The cars are garbage.
@@ThomasFerrugia You act like BMW is number one on JD power and associate in reliability … As a matter of fact, their less reliable than Range Rover’s.
BMWs are “Performance” oriented!!! Land Rover Range Rover has reliability issues and BMWs old engine. The Rover is only one inch longer, plus you can get the Alpina XB7 or Rolls Royce Cullinan by BMW. You’re bias to the Rover and they along with Jags are notorious for falling apart. Now who would be that nutty to spend $200K on one?
The range rover looks great from the outside. The modern interior is worse than the previous models. The reliability is extremely poor. The X7 is an extremely ugly car in my opinion.
Are you kidding me.??? I'd rather get a fully loaded Chevrolet Suburban with the Z71 package. It's bigger, it's better ..AND it's about $100,000 LESS than these.!
@@mikemartinez1885 ah yes, I think the Denali has the premium capability package with active response 4WD which is essentially the same thing. You'll have an electronic rear locker that's faster than the mechanical locking diff. I'm not all that versed in how similar those end up being beyond that. I do know that in that case...spec'd out, that Denali is way overpriced versus the Suburban z71.
