Hi all, I have the Fabfilter ProL2, contemplating to buy this expensive plugin. Is it worth it in 2023 as we have numerous options which are affordable and yet very good sounding. please let me know, thanks.
Fun Fact: The reason why it has not been transformed into the digital world earlier was the owner and developer Daniel Weiss, who blocked every inquiry until Softube convinced him to build a plugIn Version in collaboration. ;-)
Holy crap! I was listening to this episode on my SONY surround sound and it sounds amazing! It only makes sense if a line by line of digital code that used to live in a box is now available in the box just seems like an obvious way to sell your product minus the manufacturing cost. With that being said, I’ve never been this excited about a plugin suite ever!
Man, I heard those vocals like a million times from old videos and i love those but could never imagine an EDM-ish instrumental under the vocals 😁 I always thought of some acoustic rock or something similar. Nonetheless great demonstration of the plugin!!
Yep this plugin is amazing, I use it along with a couple of analog pieces and a prism ad/da. I was blown away by how good it is when I demoed it and had to get it
@@fx-mayhem1081OK, let's be precise then, in Swiss-German we would say it like (drum roll) WISS like in Swiss! White colour -> Wissy Farb. And for another Swiss name, the tape machines by Studer are pronounced Shtoodr.
Would you pleased suggests a signal chain of this mastering suite! Like which one comes first and which one would be the last plugins of the signal chain! Thanks in advance!
If I could only get 1 of these, which would you suggest for improving fully ITB mastering? Or do you think it’s probably too advanced for beginners? (PS I have Plugin Alliance Mega Bundle, Ozone & Slate Digital)
I don't know of anything else rather than the Weiss DS1 and the TDR Kotelnikov GE compressors that give you such granular control over the timings and offer clean way of compressing even the heaviest materials.
Hello great video I was wondering if you could use the heritage audio ha73eqx2 on the 2bus as an EQ? I want a 2 bus EQ with color but it seems like the good ones are either mono and you have to buy two, or they're extremely expensive. I like that the heritage has the carnhill transformers..
Thanks David for great video. Couple of months ago I bought this Weiss DS1 bundle and it is abolutely amazing for mastering I use it on every master. I have one quick question. Which one would you recommend using for brickwall limiter at the end of the chain? MM1 or Compressor/Limiter plugin? My current chain at the end looks like this: MM1 (mostly in wide mode) then 2 Compressor/Limiters (I like using 2 limiters working less harrd). Am I using it right? Or should I swap last Compressor/Limiter for MM1 for last brickwall limiter, I`m bit confused now. Thank you
None of them aside the limiter on DS1, but I still don't use it as last, but usually as 1st of 2 or 3 limiters/clippers. To answer your question, if you're happy with the results you get, then you're doing it right, if not.. there are no set rules or special formulas for the final limiting stage other than it's usually a combination of multiple stages, in my case, of both hw and sw. But these are not really meant as brickwall limiters which is what you want as very last slot
@@mixbustv thanks David. I still have old Waves L2 limiter, so it's better to use old Waves one at the end of the chain instead of MM1 for example? I watched the video once again and at 18:25 when you're starting talking about MM1 you say it's one of the best brickwall limiters, top three anyway. Thanks once again for clarification.
Hi..I will ask you this because you are always helpful. Please make a video of how we can connect two interfaces for more inputs, for recording drums etc.. You know many of us can't spend for additional mic preams but now many interfaces got spdif, adat..there are some videos that show the trick with asio4all, but there is not a proper video and well explained how to clock the devices for proper use and different ways of combining interfaces. I want to get id44 that has 4 preamps but I cant afford as I said additional preamps. But I can buy cheap interfaces with adat or spdif..there are a lot out there who are waiting for a proper and good explained video!!!
ADAT will connect converters, no matter what you do, the cheapest way is to buy an interface with more preamps, that is the less expensive way. And if you need more than 8 pres, you add a standalone multichannel preamp which you can connect with adat. It's gonna cost you more to buy the id44 and then expand that than buy an Arturia 8pre or MOTU 8pre
I think TDR Kotelnikov is better than compressor module in DS1. They actually said they drew inspiration from that unit but I think they succeded even more amd made it better. I like the maximizer and Deeser though. Also Eq`s are fine (not included here)
Weiss are a thing on their own, there's plenty of great dynamic processors and limiters and deessers, but weiss stuff has (i absolutely hate to say this but) THAT sound. So, it's not really about quality it's either that imprint or not. DMG makes great stuff, too tweak-y for me but great
Hey man might I ask why are your videos always in what seem sto be low framerate? Looks like all your videos are a bit choppy. That aside, thanks for one more great video and I'm glad to see you saved the channel.
Hi David, thanks as ever for your videos. On which position in a mastering chain do you see the MM-1? At the very end? Would it make sense to use one instance for the punch algorithm and after that a second instance for a bit of wide algorithm? Cheers
I do widening tasks with hardware, either the fusion or the Wes, with that said, I wouldn't use 2 of them, like think in real life, nobody had two, which doesn't mean you can't but I'd decide what the track needs more, punch or width? (at that specific stage) I usually put it last, after the limiter that does the most GR, for the last DB to take advantage of one of the processing, usually, my favorite is transparent, because, it's not really transparent, I mean it is but it has a certain sound that's sort of that standard mastering imprint/glue that all the past greatest engineers used because these units where literally everywhere
@@mixbustv I dig that. I love to experiment a lot with sound. I could even imagine to use it on some groups very subtle or as a mix tool, especially for the awesome widening. But I also care a lot for how the basics and traditions where, especially how Master and audio engineers think and how they thought back in the days. This is such valuable information for me. Thanks a lot. Cheers
@@mixbustv Thank you Sharing This Dave....I Know it will always Depend but if you are working on Bass Heavy Material Like Hip hop 1. What Limiter would you use Before the MM-1 2. Would you Use a Clipper Before it? if Yes would you Reach out for Kclip or TDR Limiter 6 First. 3. If you Clould Pick Just One Limiter for Bass Heavy Material, Would it Be the MM-1?
I have the compressor/limiter. I originally overlooked it because the in the demo I didn’t understand how it worked or how to use it. And after this video, I went in there and tweaked a couple of the settings, and suddenly I got “that“ sound.
Yo. I have these plugins. Wait for the sale. I think you can get them for $50 when the sales are up. Sign up for their news if they have one and wait for the right timing. Also, I had a reall tough time installing the key. Had to jump through so many hoops with iLock and had to contact both softube and ilock. Hopefully you dont run in to the same situation if you get it.
@Dror Levi We don't have to pay monthly, I understand what you mean. I use cloud services all the time and I am really happy that they exist, they have saved me many times in the past.In my case, I can also use frequent updates with Ableton to my advantage. Just make sure you use 3-2-1 backup methods and so far this has no disadvantages for me at all. take care peeps...
thank you for this video. I demoed weiss limiter and I was surprise haw good and transparent was versus Fab Filter Pro L2 which I use always. This month is a sale in Weiss Pro Mixing Bundle about 300 usd. Do you recommend to buy this bundle or WEISS Ds1-mk3?
Spectrafoo has been the go-to for many for a long time. Insight by Izotope is probably my favorite (altho' I don't really use visualizers/analyzers that much) and Nugen Visualizer is also great.
The Weiss compressor was acting like an EQ. When you were lowering the threshold on the low end, the bass was going down. Compressing that area should make the low end more prominent.
In which universe compressing should make something more "prominent"? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b3wwpLeqbN8.html I did the official how to's for these plugins.
Only I mix and master for a living and people see me using these literally on every mix and every master. Difference between youtubers and an engineer who happens to have a youtube channel, so I don't need to talk about anything.
I work with ozone... it gave me good results, my masters where Choosen instead all analog ones. So I didn’t find to choose another... a least for now ;)
MixbusTv 😂. that’s is true, the service was the all analog online service. So I imagine that they automatic service didn’t use all the good knowledge of a real engineer. With ozone I got decent results... Have you use Ozone? If yess, Do you think that the iWeiss will help me to get better results? Any way, I love your channel it is the best channel for audio engineers!!
What about it? It's in the bundle, best clean/precision mastering eq plugin, I have several mastering courses here for member on real work examples with both DS1 and EQ1 in use
None of those questions has an answer. One is gonna be better in a track and one on the other, like I said in the video. It is, one of the best out there. As for the punch at 200 etc.. sorry but that makes little sense in general
Hi david love your channel. From the end of this month in going to start your consult monthly program! I have a quick question if u don’t bother.... do you prefer a analog device such as a burl converter as the last device to touch your master or do u use plugin or does it depend on the song? I find that 9 out of them times my analog gear sounds bigger. Right now i use the weiss suite but i love to run it trough the burl motherboard converter at the end . What are your thoughts on this?
Well, that depends on of you use outboard on your 2bus chain or not. I have the dangerous ad+ as my mastering capture device, which does part of the final limiting that unit is meant to do that tho, not other converters, so it's not an option, you go thru it to capture the outboard chain which in my case is massive (542's, fusion, Wes Mastering como, SPL PQ, Spacecraft) but if you don't have analog, going thru a additional ADDA os NEVER a good thing.
@@mixbustv thanks for your answer, for the sake of keeping my question simple i didnt explain the whole picture. I dont own the burll But there is this site called mixanalog and they use analog equipment wich u can rent and remote control. They have some “mastering”chains wich i used and they realy gave a diffrent dimension to my mixes. But i feel more in control over my audio with the weiss suite and even use drms for wider perceived stereo image, but I wish i. Could kinda get best of both worlds. But i guess thats a no go then . Thank u
I’m not a professional ME, I’m a professional musician really just getting into mixing this year, but when you turned this on and off doing full broadband mix compression the difference was subtle yet stunning. No obvious color/artifacts... it just made the song sound finished. I *know* this is too much compressor for me right now. But I can’t forget what I heard!! The possibilities for band selected tailoring are enticing too. Ive found typical multiband compression kind of.. difficult because it often changes things I don’t intend and don’t like. This thing sounds clean AF doing it!!
