This video is for our 93-97 fbody subscribers.I discuss some of the modifications I feel will help lower the ET of the LT1 powered Camaro,Firebird and Trans Ams.I am sure I left out a few so you guys can leave in the comments your favourite mods and any I left out.Hopefully in the future we will be able to get more videos doing mods to the LT1 and how to tune them.

We have a 1994 Camaro Z28 on the channel.The current mods are Mid length Headers.SLP 2OTL exhaust,GM CAI,52mm Throttle body,LT4 1.6 ratio roller rocker arms, lower control arms,Subframe connectors,160 thermostat,Manual fan switch,Drag radials and I ported cylinders heads.All these mods were done a little over 20 years ago.

With everything you know now days. Do you suggest getting the 24x and ProCharger or leaving Opti Spark in and just doing some heads/cam/rockers?
@LSxMotorsports2021
@LSxMotorsports2021 Год назад
Well if a Procharger is in the budget that's the way to go.But heads and cam can also work good.Now Procharger with heads and cam is even better.lol.It really all comes down to your budget.But both will give you great power gains.The 24x is great for reliability but remember people have run superchargers on the LT1 for years before the 24x was ever made.Not saying it is not great because it is but if corners need to be cut for budget reasons thats where I would take a chance with the stock Opti spark.
@ffblegend
@ffblegend Год назад
@@LSxMotorsports2021 I agree with all of that. Do you think the 24x is worth even getting even if your NOT gonna boost it?
@LSxMotorsports2021
@LSxMotorsports2021 Год назад
I think it's worth it if you have the budget for it.But if your like me and have a limited budget then that money is better spent elsewhere and when you finally get the car where you want it then add the 24x.But something I forgot was that the 24x comes with a LS1 ECM which is extremely easier to tune.So I will change my answer,If you have a good tuner lined up that can tune the car as it is then skip the 24x until you have the car where you want it power wise.But if you don't have a tuner then you may want to get the 24x because it is so much easier to tune the car and more tuners available to you.

Lots of good info in that video. I bought a 94 Tran Am GT about 8 yrs ago. It had most of those mods done when I got it. Cam and CNC ported heads, short tube headers, cold air intake, 4L60e with 2800 stall, and 4.10 posi rear end. Ran 12.3s back then. I ended up blowing up the tranny that was in it, and had it rebuilt with more up grades. After that the oil pump pick up tube came off, and after getting it back on I ended up spinning two rod bearings. Everybody told me to go with an LS motor, with the GTs only being built in 94, I decided to stick with the LT1. So I got a Comp. 383 from Chad Golan, with AFR heads, custom ground cam, and switched to Pacesetter long tubes. Im now on my 2nd rebuilt tranny with a 3200 stall. Hopefully I can get it on a track and see what it runs. Im planning on replacing the exhaust with the speed engineering true 3 inch duels, and possibly a 200 horse shot of Nitrous by years end. Shooting for a solid 10 sec daily driver. If anybody is in the Owensboro Ky area I still have the heads and some other stuff off the old motor.

@@LSxMotorsports2021 you bet , I had a 98 Z28 LS1 M6 a few years before I bought this one. Yes, its a little slower stock for stock especially on a 3rd or 4th gear pull, but 0-60 is about the same imo as they rated the 96/97 SS at 4.9-5.3 seconds. I am currently replacing my MSD opti with an ACCEL. When this one goes (or maybe before). I will be doing the torqhead conversion. It's not as much of a performance boost as much as it is an upgrade for reliability & ease of maintenance. It also helps dress up the engine bay. Like you stated in another comment. The engine bay in these cars is very tight. So anything to clean it up goes a long way.

Lt1s are simple because the stock heads are good for most applications as is.. and the aftermarket intake manifolds dont really make any more power. Intake, headers and exhaust, cam, and a good tune is all you really need to completely transform these cars.

I have trickflow heads and stock intake (ported) and did a 218/230 .495 / .510 lift 114 LSA cam. Numbers are with 1.5 rocker arms and I put 1.7s in. Cam sounds like a perfect horse gallop lope in a 9.3:1 383. I can rev it to 7k RPM too. Even when doing this (shifting at 7k RPM) the heads and intake were unported and I was running 1.6 rocker arms. I took the heads and intake off to get them ported because I ruined some of the intake to head bolt holes (don't torque these intakes to spec which is 35 ft-lbs.... learned that the hard way... at least I have ported heads and intake now though, lol) Just tighten them up as much as you can with a short wrench or short 1/4 inch drive ratchet. You can probably go a little up in cam from what I did but my current setup is totally streetable and love it and it still revs very high. Plus it will work well with boost and I'm going with a twin turbo kit right now.

@LSxMotorsports2021
@LSxMotorsports2021 11 месяцев назад
The PCM you have now will be fine for the horsepower you are looking to make.Just have to find a good tuner for it which if there is no one in your area that can tune it there are still guys on the Internet that can tune it.An injector upgrade is definitely a must and as for size your better off picking a company you want to buy from then call their tech line and tell them you're plans for the car and they will spec you out the perfect set of injectors.I plan to upgrade my injectors also.I am going with Deatschworks injectors.I was going to buy 39 lbs injectors but decided that when I get around to it I will call their tech line and tell them what I have and what my plans are and let them recommend the proper injectors.Also make sure which ever brand you get that they have a data sheet for them.That is very important for tuning for the new Injectors.As far as making 450 hp with an LT1 that shouldn't be too hard many have done it.You will probably need a set of cylinder Heads.You can go aftermarket or port your current cylinder Heads.There is a guy named Lloyd Elliot who has made a name for himself porting LT1 cylinder Heads and specing out cams for these engines.The stock throttle body is probably good enough to make 450 hp.It you do upgrade the throttle body I would probably wait until after the cam and heads before doing so.Of course before going into the engine you will want the bolt ons first because they will be needed to support the cam and heads.A good cold air intake and Longtube headers with a good cat back exhaust is where everyone starts.Also keep in mind if you want to run the 1/4 mile you will need to upgrade the rear differential to something stronger.But if you are just building the car for fun and don't care about 1/4 mile times then the stock rear will be fine just no hard launches or power shifting.Good luck with your build and thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.

I just had a good friend of mine, give me a 95 Z28. The LT1 has been built and is 11.5 to 1 compression, with the heads ported and it dyno'd 421hp at the wheels. It has long tubes, with 40 series Flowmasters. The 4l60 has been built too. It has 81,000 miles. He blew a head gasket on it, and had another car come along that he liked better. So this car has been sitting 5 or 6 years, out in the sun. So the clear is peeling and the paint is faded. The black interior with leather seats, is nearly mint. Only thing wrong with the interior, is the dash is cracked. Wish it was a 6 speed, but that will come later. Its the best thing thats ever been given to me, for sure. Lol. @@LSxMotorsports2021Its factory red, but my eventual vision for it, is to get an SS spoiler and hood, then do a full color change to black. I agree with ya on the SS hood. That hood alone, makes a drastic appearance improvement on them. I fell in love with the 4th Gens back in 2001, when one of my best friends ordered a brand new SS with an automatic. I forget what GM called that color, but it was the dark blue metallic. Just a gorgeous car. Back at that time, if you had a stock SS, there werent too many other vehicles on the road that were gonna outrun you. Not without them having some moderate upgrades anyway. I think the SS at that time, was advertised at either 320 or 325 HP, which had to be a good bit less than it actually had, because when he would mat that pedal, and it kicked down into passing gear, it felt like a rocket ship launching. Lol. I remember we were heading home at about 3 AM one morning, and the highway home had a bit of a down hill, that when you got to the bottom of it, it went into a nearly mile long straight stretch. Before we got to the end of that stretch, we had that speedo pegged, and it was still climbing. We were easily running at least 160, and most likely a little faster than that. It handled that speed like it was on rails. The only way you knew you were going that fast, was the sound of the engine screaming. He totaled that car about a year after that. So he replaced the SS with a new 2002 Z28, with a 6 speed. The difference in handling between the SS and the Z28 was shocking. The Z did great up to about 130, but if you tried to go any faster than that, it started getting sketchy quick! 😂

I just bought my first car which was a 97 firebird with a lt1 5.7 swap with bbk long tube headers and a magnaflow and a swapped cam and aftermarket air intake and I wanted to try to get it tuned because I know she’d perform better and drive better but I don’t know where to start what tips/tricks do y’all recommend?
@LSxMotorsports2021
@LSxMotorsports2021 Год назад
Congratulations that's a great first car.As far as tuning goes these cars are a little tricky.I am assuming you just want someone else to tune it.First off if there are Dyno shops in your area you can check with them to see if they can tune your car.If not you may need to get a tune from someone online.The best place to search is on forums for the 4th gen cars.PCM for less is a place I used many years ago and they are still doing it last I checked.As far as tuning it yourself I have no experience doing so,I have tuned my 2002 camaro but was lucky because you can use HP tuners which will not work on a 97.We do have plans to try and learn to tune these cars in the future but right now we have not.A dyno shop is the best option but if that is not available to you then a tune from someone online is your best option.Good luck with your new car and let us know how you make out.Thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.

Recently started fixing up my new 94 ls1 and I just wanna make sure I push my car and get up and running all I need now is a fuel tank but do you know what would be a better exhaust system for the car. I’m look for loud and rowdy
@LSxMotorsports2021
@LSxMotorsports2021 Месяц назад
Well pretty much all the systems made for this car are single 3" systems so they all perform about the same. The SLP loud mouth is pretty rowdy and is priced better than most. Speed engineering also makes a true dual exhaust that is made for the 98-02 camaros but minor modifications and it will work as long as you have headers to go with it.

Well there are several places that sell polished valve Covers.Summit racing carries a few different brands.When I had my 94 Camaro I searched Ebay and got a set of Corvette valve Covers which are black composite.As far as fitment obviously the stock Covette ones fit perfectly but just check for reviews on any of the polished ones.Wish I had a better answer for you but I have always used stock GM.

I have a '97 SS that I'm slowly "restoring" upgrading. Thanks for this video. I don't think I'll get to upgrading the heads, would it be worth porting the intake manifold with stock heads?
@LSxMotorsports2021
@LSxMotorsports2021 9 месяцев назад
A 97 SS.......The 96-97 Camaro SS are without a doubt the best looking and most aggressive looking Camaros of the 4th gens.Porting the stock intake probably won't do much but if you can then why not.The reason I say it won't do much is because it already flows pretty damn good but if you can do it cheaply it is always worth porting factory intakes.Just try to keep the ports of the intake the same as the intake ports on the cylinder heads because you don't want the air to hit a wall as it enters the cylinder Heads.Awesome car by the way and thanks for watching and commenting we really appreciate it.

Hell yeah i love this video. My channel Ryan's Music&Motors (not the one im commenting with now) i have my 97 z28 on. Its under 100k still but i got it 3 years ago and it had alot of slp stuff already on it. Guy tried saying it was lt4 swapped in from one of the 108 97s that were made but its not. Its lt4 cammed and headed tho with bbk twin 58 th and duel cone slp unit for the intake. Intake manifold and head castings were the stock ones along with everything else it had slp shorties on it too with the loydmough exhaust which rusted out so i straight piped it myself put lt headers deleted the cats and all the emmissions off the car and deleted them out of the computer. Also swapped in a rear end from an 01ss car 3:23 gears and its got the zexel gear carriers which seem stronger and more even. Problems im having though is the 4l60e trans which stumbled me across this vid and your channel surprisingly but im glad it did. I currently do not have 23 or 4th gear rn all do to the pump failing, converter not working or engaging properly and now no 2 3 or 4 gears. Itll shift into 2nd tho if im at a high enough rpm range but even after its limited and i didnt test it any further than that lol. But im headed balls deep into making a stock 4l60e trans that works within the 2 others that i have and getting some new solenoids, servo, harnesses, stuff like that. I need tuned tho and have access to the equipment to do so but not the knowledge. When i get to that ill research more but as far as quarter mile goes i have some et streets on it. Just 275,50,zr17s and my best run on the street has been 12.7 at 109 with a 1.70 60 ft. Havnt been able to make it on a track after my latest mods before having more trans issues. But any info you coukd share on the later 4l60e 1 piece transmissions would also be helpful! Technical deeper than surface level info i mean? I also have a balanced and specd aluminum driveshaft and have swapped my opti with a duralast gold which has worked magnificiently this past year. Car currently has 96k on it. All leather, 30th anniversary. Pristine condition too mind the cheap gm 90s plastics lol. But ive got damn near every interier piece including headliner to go in the car when i get to it. Im most focused on making a good stock budget 4l60e work with as few purchases as possible lol. Budget build! Again i appreciate your channel and love this vid! You got it working good,12.7 is very good for what's done to it.As far as the 4L60E is concerned I really don't know that much about building one but there are lots of channels here on RU-vid that can help you,mind you most don't share all the info needed to overhaul one.But between what they do show and a book from Amazon called ATSG 4L60E / 4L65E Update handbook you should be able to get it done.Transmissions are complicated but with enough info you can do it.As far as tuning you can just start with the stock program and just make tiny changes then test until you get it where you want.Good luck on your build I too have been thinking about rebuildng my trans when it enevibly dies......They all do eventually.

Is it a wise decision to do a torque converter prior to doing cam and heads? IMO if going with that kind of combination it's far better to decide on torque converter and gears once the car has been dynoed to see where power and torque peaks are.

Yes you are correct. Planning everything out in advance is definitely the best way to go and getting the best torque converter for your car would involve getting it built based on your cam and heads and the power your making. I have a 93 camaro but im not sure the motor is a 93. Ive read in some forums the 93 had non heated 02 sensors. Mine are on the exhasut system..so idk. Maybe they changed it mid year? Since everyones listing their mods, i traded a over under citori for mine. It had sat at a auction yard 2 years. It sounded like a bad motor, it was only a header gasket. I had no clue what was done to it. It has a prom chip, rusted edelbrock headers, y pipe, flow master dual outlet muffler, k&n cold air intake, and some 18 inch street tires all around. Best trade i ever made. It needs suspension work, but itll hit 135 before it touches over drive. Oh yeah, its an automatic.

I am not sure.I think the cars that came with 2:73 gears came without the ability to shift down into 1st gear where as the cars that came with 3:23 could be shifted down to first and held there.Now it's been said that manually shifting these electronicly controlled automatics is hard on them.Now I am assuming you want to do this for doing burnouts?I know I was never happy with the way these cars shifted because unless your really into the throttle they up shift way too soon which I fixed with tuning so my car shifts pretty aggressive now.But no I don't think you can manually hold first gear in your car because it originally came with 2:73 gears and I say that completely from memory and my memory is not that good.lol.

@LSxMotorsports2021
@LSxMotorsports2021 Год назад
Good question.Well as far as boost the pistons are the weakest point so most aftermarket super chargers limit boost to 5-7 pounds.N/A with full bolt ons and heads,Cam and intake they usually make between 380-450 RWHP depending on how good the aftermarket heads are.The 98-02 LS1 cars tend to out perform the 93-97 LT1 cars because of the better cylinder Head design.All the cars suffer from weak rear differentials and the automatic cars have weak transmissions.The LS1 cars are easier to tune because they are supported by the latest tuning software like HP tuners.Parts are widely available for all these cars so there is no end too what you can do to these cars.As is always the case research and money will determine how much power you can make.These cars are definitely a bargain compared to most other cars on the used car market.

The 96 with a Borla 2 3/4 Y pipe that I put on ran a best of 13.9 @101 mph. Dynoed 281 rwhp. The 93 LT1 Firehawk M6 trans dynoed 309 rwhp after Mac mid lengths headers, 160 thermostat and a tune from PCMforless. Best 1/4 was a 13.6 @ 103 with a terrible 2.3 60ft. Beat plenty of LS1 cars and also got beat by a few LS1 fbodys. I did all the mods myself. Except tuning. Got some videos of the Firehawk on my channel. I changed out the opti spark and water pump on the 93 Firehawk. The original lasted 130k ! Only use AC Delco / Delphi opti sparks. Aftermarket even MSD is junk they will not last !!! LT1 is a great engine . Loved mine and beat a lot of cars with it. I wanted to go with a Loyd Elliot ported heads and a CC 503 cam but never went that route. Sold the Firehawk about 6yrs ago. Super clean Firehawk.

Give me as many suggestions as I can get 93 formula auto trans
@LSxMotorsports2021
@LSxMotorsports2021 Год назад
Well first off your 93 has special needs because it is the only year that used speed density.The 94-97 all used a MAF system.Which means it can't adapt as easily to bolt ons.You can get away with a few bolt ons but eventually it would start running lean.I was going to suggest switching to the torque head system which does away with the opti spark and replaces it with the LS1 coil packs and a LS1 PCM but I checked and they are not listed for the 93 cars.So if you wanted to get serious with mods you would first need to find a tuner who can tune these 93 cars.The 93 cars are also the last cars to use the replaceable E prom chip.If you can find a reliable tuner then your good to go and do whatever your budget allows.Like any other engine the LT1 is a big air pump,The more air you can get into it the more fuel that can be added and the more power it will make.

The rear end in the V6 is the same as the V8 cars.They are weak and break easy if you have a sticky tire and a manual .If you plan on doing any serious drag racing then yes you will want to upgrade the rear end.But if you are just using your car to cruise around in then you will be fine just don't do any hard launches with it.

@@LSxMotorsports2021 if the“opti” park of the optispark is still working it intercepts the signal and reads the low res sensor to determine which cylinder is about to fire. The GM computer still does all the timing, but when it fires the LTCC sends a signal to the corresponding coil pack and fires the cylinder. You can also read and tune the 94-95 ecm’s with a $20 cable. Look up ecmhack. You can turn your fans on at a much cooler temp without a fan controller.

Yeah this is true.But it really depends alot on your budget and ultimate goals for your car.What your saying is true but if you're ultimate goal is a good driving 12 second car that can be achieved with the LT1 and even a stock Opti spark.I know lots of people have had alot of problems with the Opti but there is also many who have had no issues with the Opti spark.The tuning thing is an obstacle but there is software available to tune these cars.Personaly I have an LS1 car and it is very easy to tune and very reliable so I definitely get what you are saying.But at the same time I really like the gen 2 LT1 and think it has plenty of potential.

Lol a coyote engine in f body. You must be trying to get back at the LS boys that ripped out the 5.0 in the foxbody and put a LS in cause they wanted to go fast. Lol might want to research the newer 5.0 engines especially the 2012 -2017. They have issues. There not all that. If you like spending money a 2018 5.0 low mile engine and up isn’t going to be cheap. Don’t forget tuning especially if you plan on using the Ford 10 spd auto. Good luck finding a tuner that knows what he is doing. Yep got a buddy with big bucks that put a 2022 5.0 coyote / 10 spd auto in a 91 Mustang GT. He is on his 3rd tuner. Problem is getting the 10 spd auto to shift right.
