The best nootropics for anxiety.
This video is for you if you have tried anti-anxiety meds, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, counseling, or psychotherapy. And either they didn't work. Or you are looking for a natural nootropic alternative.
In this video you’ll discover the real cause of your anxiety symptoms. And get some help dealing with how you feel.
Concrete steps to take that does NOT include meditation, yoga, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or psychoanalysis. But using nootropic supplements instead.
If your anxiety is caused by a neurotransmitter dysfunction, this video may help you find out which one may be causing your symptoms.
It could be problems with acetylcholine, dopamine, GABA, glutamate, norepinephrine, or serotonin.
Here you'll learn how to find the root cause of your anxiety with step-by-step instruction on how to experiment with supplements that act as precursors.
This means if you don't already know if you have problems with serotonin or dopamine or GABA, you'll learn how to test each one safely. Until you find a supplement or group of supplements that work to make you feel better.

Everyone is different but here is what fixed my anxiety. I take a quality B Complex plus 300mg of B1. Took this daily with my other supplements and in a couple weeks my anxiety was history. I had anxiety really bad, restless legs, inability to sit still, unable to relax. I am absolutely fine now.

@@NootropicsExpert I stopped smoking 3 weeks ago, I don't feel the need for it anymore but I can tell it messed up my dopamine. I noticed that I get angry very quickly and it takes me a long time to cool down. I gave L-Tyrosine a try after watching this video and it seems to calm me down. If you have any advise for me I am taking it. Again thank you very much

@@mehdibc5852 Medhi, L-Tyrosine likely helped because you know that it is dopamine that is causing you problems. So look for other supplements that support dopamine and its receptors. Such as N-Acetyl L-Cysteine, Aniracetam, Vitamins B6, B9 & B12, magnesium, etc. Anything you can find that works in this area and see which ones work for you. Search NootropicsExert.com for the keyword "dopamine" and see what else turns up. But avoid L-DOPA (Mucuna Pruriens) for now because it's more difficult to get dosed correctly. And may mess things up further for you.

I just wanted to suggest that people also consider the “brain fog” video, for anti-anxiety treatments. I’ve found that fixing my zinc and selenium deficiency, in combination with high dose melatonin (20+ mg) has cured my social anxiety (which was characterized by struggling to engage with people, more than fearfulness, so not classic social anxiety). A good place to start is to look for nutrient deficiencies… not many doctors will do this, so something like the Spectracell test is great for testing most essential nutrients (caught my zinc and selenium deficiencies). But I wouldn’t necessarily trust their measure of antioxidant capacity, because it suggested that I had good antioxidant levels, yet adding the high dose melatonin (which is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ) on top of that made a big difference. It’s really amazing to me just how powerful these natural compounds can be, even compared to pharmaceutical drugs (I’ve probably tried a dozen antidepressant and anti-anxiety drugs, with little or no improvement). I’m finding that there’s actually a huge amount of evidence that connects inflammation and oxidation with anxiety and depression.

Best part is they would usually try to raise my dose. Wonder how many lives have been lost cause of antidepressants?

@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 3 года назад
Daniel, I suggest you NOT start with L-DOPA if you are experimenting with raising dopamine. And try L-Tyrosine instead to start. Because you will likely run into a similar problem as you did with 5-HTP. Both 5-HTP and L-DOPA are "direct" precursors to the synthesis of serotonin and dopamine. They are hard to dose because they work so quickly. And there is no wiggle room for error. Use L-Tryptophan for serotonin and L-Tyrosine for dopamine. They are both two step away from making their respective neurotransmitters. And long-term use is not a issue if either of them work for you. Don't forget that they use L-DOPA to treat Parkinson's Disease. If that is not your issue then keep for later use. And go the safe route instead.

Thanks for the great vids! What would suggest for fish oils as for higher epa, or dha levels for anxiety? I've heard higher epa levels can make anxiety worse. Also I find it interesting when you research ocd all they talk about is serotonin, and high glutamate levels.
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 2 года назад
OCD seems to be caused by problems with any one or more glutamate toxicity, low brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), inflammation, mutations in two specific genes, dysregulation of the serotonin system, dopamine system, glutamate system including problems with the NMDA receptor gene, problems with nitric oxide (NO), microbiome dysregulation, or hormone dysregulation. So take your pick. It could be caused by anyone of those. EPA is usually prescribed for depression. But for general brain health you need 1,000 mg DHA per day

It's unfortunate that phenibut can be abused and what the nightmare repercussions are, because I noticed a significant build up effect after consistently taking 500mg 2x/week, after a couple of months. I'd taken it before but not that regularly. It makes a huge difference. I'm glad that I didn't give it away. I developed a skin condition from stress/anxiety. I had a little bit of success with l-theanine, but when the stress got to a certain point that wasn't doing the trick as well. I've yet to try bacopa but want to. I've lived with anxiety for decades.

Your videos are great! I am mostly off anxiety meds. I used them for sleep after a crazy point in my life. Adaptogens, multi vitamins, a proper diet without dairy, sugar, and gluten, as well as exercise and life style changes have helped tremendously. I'd say I am 80-90% my old self. I am just trying to tweak the last bit of sleep and sleep anxiety. issues I used Klonopin and even a small amount makes me sleep like a baby as well as evaporates anxiety. I thought gaba was the magic bullet but i cant take more than 50 mg or i get a slow persistent headache. Should i try Tyrosine or something else on "best nootropics for anxiety" page?. Klonopin binds to gaba receptors. Does that mean it increases gaba? Thanks so much!

For sleep you are better off using L-Tryptophan, magnesium, and L-Theanine. If that is not enough then try 20 mg CBD Oil. I use the gummies from Charlotte's Web. bit.ly/3dH6Ndx. I suggest avoiding GABA because it is contraindicated with Klonopin.

I began years ago to avoid anexiety producing situations I sometimes beat myself up for being a coward. But now I understand more and more that it isn't my fault something is wrong in my brain and the false one-sided treatment with SSRI's enhanced my disbelief into today's psychiatry. Jesse, I'm not a doctor (don't' even play one on TV!) but I think you'll be safe with Lion's Mane. It takes awhile to work. But it is really effective if dosed twice a day every day. Because it helps repair neurons, axons, dendrites, and synapses. And keeps things in your brain functioning the way it is supposed to. Nothing radical here. Just very effective brain repair.

Went to the medical marijuana dispensary, which has a "Pharmacist." She was very knowledgeable, made suggestions. I bought a product called Soothe. It's for anxiety and sleep (another issue of mine). I did half the recomended dose, slept 9 hours, and awoke with no anxiety. This dose was too much. I cut it to a quarter dose, and that was it. I have had sleep issues for years... getting two nights of deep sleep in a row was so restorative. I worked in my yard today like I never have... Sleep is so healing. My depression, which has been high of late, was seriously diminished. I felt really good, strong, all day. I'm exhausted from working so hard. I'm looking forward to see how well i recover.

Dave, somehow my question disappeared twice. Anyway, st John wort is just what I need for short term peak emotional stress. But I also need effexor for long term stability. Pls advise how to replace Effexor... L tryptophan gv me bad muscle aches. Tks !
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 3 года назад
William, Effexor has been referred to as a serotonin-norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (SNDRI). It also has an effect on opioid receptors and alpha-2 (α2) adrenergic receptors which is norepinephrine and epinephrine. St. John's wort is the only supplement I know of that touches all the same things in your brain. Which is likely why it works for you. The problem as I see it is do you know which of those neurotransmitters and/or receptors in your brain presenting the biggest problem? Sounds like it's not serotonin because of your reaction to L-Tryptophan. I'd try L-Tyrosine which is a precursor to dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine. And look for some other supplements that also affects each of these neurotransmitters. It could be an adaptogen or another herb. Or more than likely a combination of supplements. I've given you plenty of ideas to experiment with in this video. So keep on doing the trial and error thing. if you do you'll eventually hit on a few that work for you.

@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 3 года назад
Dwayne you can't legitimately test neurotransmitter levels. Because how much dopamine for example is detected in your blood or urine has no bearing on how much dopamine is in your brain. Because most of these neurotransmitters are synthesized as needed within your brain. The only good way to test neurotransmitters is what I explained in this video. Through Trial and Error if you haven't any other clues to work from.

Hey David I found that I take about 4 of the supplements that you mentioned here in this video. Do you think that that may be an issue. Given that I deal with crippling anxiety and OCD like symptoms do you think it may be backfiring on me by using so many of these different supplements?

Thanks again for all your videos I watch them all the time and there super informative!
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 2 года назад
Andreas, each of the supplements I mention in this video has a specific job to do. So theoretically you could use everything on that list at the recommended dosages and be OK. But always start with the lower end of recommended dosages. It depends on what you brain needs. It's best to try them one-at-a-time to see how you react to it. If it's fine then you add the next one, etc. If the supplements you are using now do not reduce the symptoms you describe you need to keep experimenting until you find what works for you.
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 2 года назад
@@andreash.906 There is not such thing as a glutamate supplement. In fact, you would not want to use it even if it was because glutamate on its own can be toxic. L-Glutamine naturally converts into glutamate which naturally converts into GABA which then make Human Growth Hormone. The only part of this cycle you want to support is either Glutamine or GABA or your can use both. Your system will take care of Glutamate on its own. For "crippling anxiety" you need to find out what is causing it. Same with depression. And unless you have had success with a prescription drug (which you may be able to reverse engineer and find an equivalent) it's a matter of experimenting until you find what works. See my video on Best Nootropics for Depression: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gQcsDsOC5o0.html. And for OCD, I suggest you do a search of Nootropics Expert and search for the keyword "OCD" and see what turns up. You should get at least a half dozen supplements to try.

Robert, HPA Axis Dysfunction can be a cause for anxiety because it means your adrenals are either not putting out enough cortisol and/or norepinephrine. Or are putting out too much. Either of which can cause anxiety among a host of other problems.

Should it only take 2-3 days to see if one has an effect on you? I hear lots of supplements take like a week or more to kick in
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert Год назад
Ariel, good question. The half-life of these amino acid precursors is only from 2.5 to 6 or 7 hours. Which is the reasons why we dose things like L-Tyrosine and CDP-Choline twice per day. Chances are you will know within the first day or two if you have restored something that you were deficient in. If not then try the next one. But it is true that once you figure out which neurotransmitter you are deficient in and have restored it by using supplements. Consistent, daily use should make you feel better and better the more you use it. Until that system is functioning in a healthy manner. Then you will have a new base-line.

Thank you very much to this information, really appreciate it.
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 2 года назад
Robin, Bacopa Monnieri counteracts the effects of stress by regulating hormones involved in the stress response. And it seems to support the use of serotonin in your brain which also provides an anti-anxiety effect. It is highly unlikely that you developed tolerance to Bacopa because that is not the way adaptogens work. Something else is going on. And you do not want to "rotate" an adaptogen like Bacopa either because there is zero benefit in doing so. This video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r7ZCExW9S44.html may give you some other ideas to try.

Do these help with derealization/depersonalization (dissociative) symptoms?
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert Год назад
Andrew, according to the Mayo Clinic depersonalization-derealization disorder may be caused by what boils down to chronic stress. Which hardwires pathways between the amygdala and prefrontal cortex. That is the cause of most chronic stress disorders. I describe that pathway in my video on PTSD and provide several suggestions on what helps. pulse.ly/rf73z6agm9

James, I'm getting requests for doing videos for specific issues (such as dyslexia) and they will be somewhere in the future when I have more help catching up on the fundamentals of brain health and optimization. But I'm making a list of all these issues and will eventually get to addressing each one. So stay tuned. And thanks for the request.

Just wondering if you have a video on nootropics for recreational uses, alcohol is terrible for the body so is there maybe a nootropic that can be taken recreationally without the terrible side effects alcohol has? For example one that doesn’t come with addiction problems, hangovers and kidney damage?
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 3 года назад
Oliver you are not alone in this request but it is a question I avoid. Because my mission is to hopefully help people heal and not for recreational purposes. However, one thing I have found over the years is as you get healthier and your body and brain start working as originally designed the desire for things like alcohol vanishes. The desire is gone and it doesn't even cross your mind.

Question for you, will taking nootropics help regenerate neurotransmitters or restore so that will you can stop taking after a certain period time?
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 2 года назад
Elijah nootropics will definitely create neurotransmitters. But you are using these brain chemicals every day and all day long. Which means you need to continue using them. It's why we call them dietary "supplements". Because we are supplementing what we cannot get from food.

Thomas, Ashwagandha is great for anxiety for some people; But that is not the purpose of this video. Here I'm trying to help people figure out what is causing their anxiety first. After you figure out what is causing your anxiety then you can think about trying other nootropics that also affect that neurotransmitter. But first you need to figure out which one is causing the problem.

Can you still take alpha gpc powder when it turns into pudding?
@NootropicsExpert

I would avoid it because you can't tell if it's gone bad. 100% Alpha GPC tends to liquify which is why most Alpha GPC supplements are only 50% with the rest a filler.

@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 3 года назад
Jaime, I didn't mention Ashwagandha because that was not the purpose of this video. Here I'm trying to get across a method of discoverinng the root cause of anxiety. And it varies from person to person. There is no one-pill solution. But if you find that GABA is your problem. Then Ashwagandha is a great choice. But if it's dopamine or serotonin, or something else that Ashwagandha doesn't help then it won't work. And is not the place to start if you don't know the root cause.

This might be a weird question, but could you do a review on cold exposure as if it was a nootropic? It has helped me a lot with managing my anxiety, so i hope you might be able to inspire more people to try it if shown the cognitive benefits
@NootropicsExpert
@NootropicsExpert 3 года назад
CB. it is unlikely that I'll do a video on how cold exposure affects anxiety. But I do know that using L-Tyrosine helped people cope with cold exposure better. So this may mean that in cold weather it could be suppressing dopamine in your brain. Which is solving your anxiety problem. Just a thought ...
@catcat4697
@catcat4697 3 года назад
@@NootropicsExpert I'll do some testing if I'm ever to try l-tyrosine, i won't go overboard but it's definitely interesting how those systems interplay Though from my anecdotal evidence it seems more like the stress of the cold on my body makes me aware of how to deal with sudden adrenaline spikes, helping me with anxiety throughout the day because i can say to myself "I've willfully exposed myself to worse stress than this earlier today, so I'll probably be fine" Tho i do know that outside of the psychological aspects there also happens a lot on a physical level, controlled stress triggers the canabanoid system and slowly releases cannabinol that can in the right circumstances greatly negate anxiety. Outside if that your body starts using your free glucose supplies to keep you warm, negating any sugar crash you might've had prior to that. And of course spiking your adrenaline will decrease your sensitivity to it for a brief period of time It's not a cure all, but it definitely reminds me of nootropics in a lot of ways. The only downside is that it is best to only stress yourself that way if you've had a full nights sleep, cause i found that being sleep deprived can really mess up your temperature regulation for a couple hours after cold exposure.

@@NootropicsExpert i said I'd give a review so here it is, as of mental benefits i haven't (yet directly) noticed a huge difference when taking l-tyrosine. But what i noticed is that it helps with maintaining less body fat, which in turn helps mentally. Now with cold i haven't noticed huge differences either, except that i feel a bit more shielded from it. When showering it doesn't feel like the cold goes more than skin deep, and when sitting outside in a t-shirt i can tolerate it a lot better. So there's definitely a mechanism at play there, quite interesting how chemicals can have an impact like that

If you have honestly tested every neurotransmitter then maybe that is not the problem. And it could be something else like low in certain nutrients, hormone imbalances, or inflammation.
