This is a great video,. After seeing this we bought a Pyroclassic IV in 2020. Over the past 2 winters, it has been excellent. The key is to keep it going over winter, even if you put a couple of logs on while you are away at work during the day it is enough to keep the heat stored in the cylinder and the house at a cosy temperature. (It takes a bit of time to heat the house up from cold, so it's best to keep it ticking over).

Hey Beale Family thats awesome to hear its going strong, I have found the same thing about keeping it ticking over - great advice!!!

We bought one last week. Consumer pointed us in the right direction! Great video. It was nice to see inside the factory to see how they make these wood burners. We can’t wait for it to arrive. Very exciting! (and NZ made!)

Have had one in our rural home for about 10 years now. Very clean burning, and once up to speed is capable of throwing out decent heat. As with any wood burner, dry fuel is the key to success. Would recommend to anyone. The comment from Rick is spot on - burning near the back of the chamber spares the wooden door handles!

Thats great to hear Richard. Which wood do you find burns the best?
@richardmcgrath61
@richardmcgrath61 4 года назад
@@nzbuilder I use wattle and gum for good heat output, and to ensure there are embers in the morning for relighting, but manuka/kanuka is the ultimate. This morning I had a heap of wattle glowing at the back of the chamber after 8 hours. Pine and macrocarpa are usually gone by morning. It helps to push as much of the burning wood as you can to the back of the firebox, and stoke up the area at the front near the door, when you are heading to bed. Did you get a Pyroclassic installed in your home?

Enjoyed watching your video Josh and it looks like we went on a very similar journey when choosing our wood burner. These fires are awesome - really easy to use, really efficient burn, look great and radiate plenty of heat. Highly recommended.

So sad they weren't cleanair approved 4 years ago here in Nelson, so I had to chose a different one. Exactly like he said, my firebox is very shallow and won't keep burning through the night. It's a twinfire but never works properly. Dreaming to build a house in a few years and will get one of those 😍 Thanks for your video, really interesting to have a factory tour!

Andrew C that’s good to know it actually does burn all night 👍🏼sounds like a few owners have only have to use kindling a couple of times a year because they just chuck another log on in the morning and it roars to life again 🔥🔥🔥

I really enjoyed your video but I do have a question. If I was to buy a minipyro how much wood would I be expected to buy for each winter? As I have burned diesel for over 20 years I have no idea as to how much wood to buy with these if I tossed out my diesell fire?

Hi Josh, great vid pleased I came across it, so how is the burner going?
@nzbuilder
@nzbuilder 3 года назад
Hey Glenn, the Pyroclassic is awesome, sitting in front of it now, Its not like a traditional fire that roars into life, raging hot, and then fizzles out, its more consistent, but you still get that warm to your bones feeling The only thing I would do differently next time is put it on a wood box to get a bit more height, because we had a wet back and hot water cylinder had to be a certain height above we were restricted with lifting it up any more,
@peopleschamp8818
@peopleschamp8818 2 года назад
How long from first start up does it take to warm up and does it have the heat that pours off it when you stand close to it when you walk in freezing from outside like a yunca

Hey Josh, I live in Christchurch and our current log burner permit expires next week, has been a good workhorse for last 20 years. We have to now choose a ULEB as replacement. Curious to know what your thoughts are after 3 years on the Pyro or anyone else that has one? Is it efficient as they say and does it produce good radiant heat. Our place is a 1950s brick clad home, std 3 bedrooms, log burner in lounge with heat transfer in ceiling which vents to 2 bedrooms. Definitely more expensive compared to current std ULEBs, but if you need less fuel there maybe a saving? Cheers
@nzbuilder
@nzbuilder 2 года назад
Hey 3 years on I still rate it, it pumps out the heat, but its different to a traditional fire that rages hot and then fizzles out fast, this is more of a long burn that constantly keeps the room warm, even long after you've stopped burning the kiln and hotplate are emitting heat into room

It the Pyroclassic blurb they emphasise hard woods - what if you only have pine freely available?
@nzbuilder
@nzbuilder 2 года назад
I use pine to get the fire going, it definetly burns faster than the hardwood, but if thats all you've got use it

I wanted to get a Pyro but the geometry just didn’t fit my room - it would’ve come out too far. Went for a Firenzo in the end which is another good product made here in Hawkes Bay.

@@nzbuilder 1 , long narrow opening so can’t put much in . 2 door handle is crap . Have fun with it if you got a nice hot fire going . 3 can only be swept from the top when many sweeps can sweep from the bottom these days and if you have it installed with an offset in the flue it’s difficult to get in the top baffle compartment to clean build up out . Health and safety has considerably changed in nz and climbing over roofs without safety equipment is becoming a thing of the past . 4 apparently many people do like them initially but many who have had them for 10 years wouldn’t have another one .5 better have deep pockets for replacement parts . 6 no better than any other log burner that basically uses the same principals ( primary burn area with restricted draw air flow followed by a secondary baffle area for burn ) just like every other log fire out there but with dressed up marketing . All this came from a chimney sweep with 30 years experience with fire places .

Problem is that if you go get your own firewood as a lot of rural people do then 90 percent of the wood you get off the farm wouldn’t come close to going in that miserable fire box .
@nzbuilder
@nzbuilder 2 года назад
I disagree, I chop, split and stacked all the wood for this, just like a "rural" person. #1 chop your rounds to the right length #2 split into slightly smaller pieces than normal That will do the trick
