Why is that even important? I think a lot of us don't actually care about the whole thing. It's just a bit salty. If anything, I had to convince my first GF to let me go down on her during her period. In 4 licks it's back to normal anyway, and it's not like you can't use a little extra iron in your diet. With another girl, I was fooling around and she thought her period was over, but it resumed as I was down there. After a bit I just looked up, grinned and told her I was a vampire (that joke made more sense on the spot, I'm Romanian...). People who think it's "gross" need to calm down, you don't have second thoughts when you get cut or scraped and suck the blood away, and you shouldn't have any when it comes to this either.

If you or I have an accident and fall or cut yourself, there's a measure of instinct to recoil from the source of danger, but the uterus is not only immobile, it's also outright inaccessible (best you can hope for is pain pills or a source of warmth such as a bottle of warm water), so girls can't do anything about it other than wait it out. It's why the first couple of days of a period are the most painful for them, until the uterine membrane heals up in preparation for the next ovum. As for self-respect, it has nothing to do with it, I don't see how it becomes demeaning just by adding some blood to the equation. What also comes along with the period is an increase in hormones, and increased sensitivity in that area. I think offering pleasure to your partner when they can not only make the most of it, but also use that pleasure to relieve some of the pain they're feeling, is one of the most satisfying things you can do as a man (especially considering there's no real way for girls to reciprocate it, we've got 0 comparable issues to the kind of process the period entails). Succor is hard to come by in this world, especially in these times when everyone's just looking out for themselves...

As far as explaining it, I don't really know what goes on in the mind of the girl, all I know is I've been told that they felt like doing that but that they feel off-put because of a sense of shame for the bleeding (and yes, I'm aware the clots contain tissue as well, but due to the pungent taste of blood, it only comes across as very salty and leaves the same after-taste as licking an old coin). And following the deed, I was told how it felt very good compared to doing so regularly. Perhaps there is no actual sensitivity as far as the physical aspect, and it's more of a psychological effect. How would I really measure it even? I'm not going to pause 5 minutes in and ask "compared to the usual 5-minute mark, would you rate your current experience worse, about equal to or improved, and if improved, please grade it on a 20-point scale". I'll stick to just doing my thing and considering it a good day if pleasure was to be had. And I wasn't trying to imply that it may be inconsiderate of people to not do this, only that, having done so, I found no health risk to myself or to my partners, and they did seem to enjoy it more, so that maybe it wouldn't hurt for others to give it a go as well. Until then, I shall stay in my freak fort. I didn't mean to cause any civil unrest with my remarks and do apologize for the trouble and for taking some of your time in reading a random Internet person's weird comments.
