The whole plot of this movie sounds exactly like something a child in the 80's would write - a rock band who know martial arts fight a biker gang of ninjas. It almost sounds like it could be a Saturday morning cartoon, complete with tie-in action figures.
Honestly, I’d LOVE to see a modern revival of this movie. Maybe a series focusing on the origins of the band (New actors, of course), with cameos here and there from the original cast members. Heck, 80s culture has been popular for a while now, so why not give Miami Connection another chance?
History has robbed us of a *Miami Connection* Saturday morning cartoon.. but with the original cast still around, we can still make this happen as a society.
I can't hate on this film, it's a "bad movie," but only in execution in that it was largely made by people who weren't writers, actors, or directors. But what they were was earnest and gave it their best shot telling a wholesome, ridiculous story of rockstar Tae Kwon Do orphans, friends forever who push back against Ninja cocaine dealers and their Florida man biker flunkies while siblings are caught in the struggle on both sides. It's terrible, it's terrific, and in a better world this is what Florida would be known for.
"If you get my job back for me, any money I make is yours." Uh, so what's the point of having your job back if you're not gonna make any money from it?
I attended a midnight screening of this at the New York Asian Film Festival years ago. Before it started, one of the guys who run the fest stood up, beer in hand, and announced, "Anyone who shushes anyone else during this will be kicked out." It was a blast.
I still remember the first time I played Farcry Blood Dragon and how surprised I was to hear that Friends Through Eternity song playing over the credits
I love the two full songs in this..."Friends" and "Against the Ninja" were well written and by the guy who plays Tom... He's the only one who has any clue what he's doing on the guitar cuz he actually plays. The one who has the long curly hair and mustache. I always thought it was catchy 80's goodness. Whoever uploaded the full versions from the soundtrack to RU-vid is the shit.
One of my fave Rifftrax - The original title of this movie is Orlando Connection - not really but it should've been because NOTHING in this movie takes place in Miami 😄
So, the movie "Miami Connection" starts with "Orlando, Florida" appearing onscreen over a red neon sign that says "Coral Gables." It's an intrastate film about an international band!
Crap, I just made my own variation of this joke elsewhere. (In my version, this is his attempt to break free from that death-grip Hall has upon him throughout the '80s).
Is this movie a cult classic? Because all of a sudden it is all over youtube and the internet!!! The entire movie and the references about the movie!!!
Just watched this entire film last night, as kid who grew up in Orlando during that time, it was a great find. Would love to find the full RiffTrax version
Some of my other edits have the link to their website where you can find the full versions, and there's two, one of them is live and the other is a studio version which has a lot more footage that wasn't trimmed out of the live version, so get that one to see that full movie. www.rifftrax.com should get you there.
