More people need to know Sgt. Hatred's origin story. One day, Doc Hammer was sitting in a coffee shop when he saw this stern-looking old military vet type dude looking at foot fetish pics on his computer completely straight-faced. Hence, Sgt. Hatred was born.
@@gerardomacias7370 No but before we ever even see Sgt. Hatred we hear about him, Hank says he touched him inappropriately. That's why Hank's so nervous when he gets sat next to Hatred at The Monarch's wedding
Just have the closest person in your life shoot you with trauq darts while you fight other middle aged people in life or death combat. Oh and eat a cheese burger every few times a week.
hurt yes, break the skin? unless the barrel is liteally pressed against it rubber bullets shouldnt be able to penetrate skin. pretty much feel like getting hit by a slightly harder paintball with out gear on
rubber bullets actually can and will kill you when fired directly at you. They're supposed to be fired at the ground and bounce up to hit, but since the main user of them is the police force, well, we know how American police are.
I do love how Hatred cares for Hank. For those who don’t know, the pedophile thing is not his fault. For some reason, the super soldier formula that made him Sergeant Hatred made him that way as a very bizarre side-effect. He’s got a serum to nullify that effect 😅
i assume super soldier serum suppresses your conscience which is why action man and sergeant hatred were both... like that until they both retired and got put on chill pills
@Mr. L the serum didn't make Action Man sexually attracted to children, but I believe it played a large role in him being as psychotically violent as he was/is.
Another example of how excellent this show was: When Sgt. Hatred is improvising his tune on guitar, his fingers are actually, actually showing the chords he's playing, and any guitar player can play along at home. This NEVER happens when someone is being shown playing guitar, either in animation or movies! It takes a real love for your work to makes this happen!
i think metalocalypse is also pretty accurate with it's fingerings. as much as they can be at least, i figure animating all of skiwsgaar skigelfs fingers all the time would cost enough on its own.
I liked that during the hostage situation with Haranguetan, they didn't make Vatred look overly cowardly because Brock was there. Even when he was saying "Look how you quake in fear" Hatred just looked at him firmly, and gave him a pretty powerful right hook.
I have to give the man credit, as the mom of a baby boy, he does actively try to change and not commit crimes outside of arching. He also shows serious restraint to not be found in an inappropriate situation with the boys or other children. His big downfall is that he simply couldn't pleasure his wife the way she wanted. He's a shit load more respectable than CPT. Sunshine.
@@SuperWolsey More like this sort of thing has come up as a conversation point during my psychology discussions in regards to children who were abused. It's not unusual for them to repeat the cycle of abuse simply because it's been normalized in the home or a variety of factors. Sgt. Hatred is generally someone who's still recovering from the cycle of abuse but wishes to change and no longer be in the cycle. Pretty interesting stuff when you get into it.
@@outrageddeer2101 That's just a contract to abuse you then. The military has obviously done shit like this with or without peoples permission. Its still the abuse of a human being.
I was saying to myself "I guess he doesn't have any of Brendan Small's Sgt. Hatred," but then I got to end. I'm glad you were able to find a good scene of him voiced by Small.
That scene in the "Venture Libre" episode (by far my favorite episode) where he and Doc are imprisoned in Venturestein's paramilitary camp, when Hatred has that flashback nightmare revealing him getting the super serum as a young man and getting overly aggressive and apathetic and experiencing immediate side-effects of pedophilic rage overtake him when he sees General Treister's son, the sound of Venturestein's repeated manifesto to all who've been wrongfully experimented on and used for science to break free playing--that shit is so sad. Wakes up terrified and racked with guilt over this horrifying, evil event in his life that really, for once, wasn't his fault. That would be a damn heavy burden to carry. Like, I didn't realize how tragic he was until I gave the show a couple rewatches. Literally just wanted to be a soldier, but a soldier's life isn't just a straight-set path. Venture Bros. is so damn good.
@@darinneal3964 I think the idea is that since he's more accustomed to Military Time, he's confused on the basics of AM/PM times, so when he's thinking 5:30, he's incorrectly thinking PM because it "looked like a fancy P" instead of realizing it was an A.
@@malcolmmorin"It looks like a fancy P" the show literally tells you he just mistook the writing, its not as deep as him going off strictly military time and there is zero indication of that at all.
I MIGHT BE HAVING A HEART ATTACK! I AM OVERWEIGHT! OVER 50! AND I AM SPEEDBALLING TRANQUILIZERS AND PURE ADRENALINE! Billy: "Okay, you should maybe put the gun down." I swear there are so many funny moments in this show but that has to be in the top ten. 😆
I love the schedule argument scene. It embodies the paperwork aspect of arching and shows it’s an actual job and shows they are scheduled like a flexible working hours
It's interesting that even though this guy is a sex offender, he genuinely seems like he wants to change and understands that his actions and attractions towards children is wrong. I think that's a hell of a lot better compared to sex pests in other shows like Quagmire and Hebert who literally embrace and indulge in their sick interests, i'm surprised this aspect of the character doesn't get more known.
Part of that is because he didn't always have that predilection. It was a side effect of the experimental Super Soldier Serum he was dosed with when he was in the OSI.
Well Quagmire and Herbert's main point of existing is outrageous sexual humor. They were meant to be dark parodies of the "ladies man friend" and "children-loving old neighbor" archetypes and not much else. Sgt. Hatred's initial qualities are that he's a militaristic supervillain-turned dedicated Venture bodyguard with his recovering pedophilia being a secondary trait, Of course even as I said that, Quagmire's sex pest qualities did get toned down over time in favor experimenting with him as the more sophisticated Peter friend with odd gimmicks.
And there are means to treat paraphilia like pedophilia and it’s better for society at large to address where they come from(often trauma) and fix these problematic arousal patterns because treating them makes them less of a danger to others and themselves
@@oMaJoJ no it's not, he's always been a pedo. They never once confirm that. What you're probably thinking of is that when he defects from the Guild to becoming Venture's body guard he gave up all the Guild's secrets for a serum that repressed his pedo urges. Later he grows massive breasts and gets a doctor check up and they can confirm that the breast growth was a side-affect from the repressing serum and the super soldier serum interacting.
Hatred had a different job. The boys died 29 times on Brock's watch and acted like 10 year olds despite being in their teens. They flourished under Hatred.
@@Ray_D_Tutto tbh you are right, since there were a few time skip in those seasons we kind of forget it, but hatred actually probably let the boys be more independent in a relatively secure enviroment and that helped them mature a lot
@@Ray_D_Tutto 14 times, and that was when the boys were far more reckless and when they were still going on missions constantly. That's more on Venture putting them in the situation than Brock.
It's incredibly ballsy of this goofy comedy adult swim show to depict a man struggling with his urges and fighting them like that because he knows it's wrong. You almost never see media depicting it realistically.
I like how he's objectively disgusting and a pedo. But also deep down he's a nice guy with alot of vices and issues who is just trying to do his best despite it goddamnit! No other show can even think about having a character that completely unhinged.
When Dr. Venture inherited his brother's business holdings, Doc got bumped up in level. That increase in level means that regulations now REQUIRE Brock to have a gun. He doesn't keep it loaded though.
Hatred is a super soldier, but that doesn't mean much with the kind of super-weirdoes that he deals with. He's above normal human level, but nowhere near even Brock (who definitely has superpowers, beyond just the car thing) or the magical enemies they encounter. I think his collaboration with Brock to harass Wide Whale was a good demonstration of his actual skills- he's a damned good spy (don't forget he was a mole in the OSI for decades for an organization they weren't even sure existed) and an above average soldier. Before he went totally whacko from the anti-pedo hormones, he'd have been a real threat working for a covert unit, but even after he remains pretty skilled.
@@The9TKitsune He's also a lot older than he was when he first became a Super Soldier and until he became a Body Guard he was a Supervillain who had henchmen to do the field work for him for years so he was out of practice
Another thing is that Hatred doesn't have that same level of hatred in his heart that he had in his prime. He's still obviously a tough guy for his age as he still managed to hit Harangutan so hard he knocked out one of his teeth, but he's clearly not the badass that he used to be.
It's very likely that the meds he takes to get rid of his urges cancels out the serum that caused it in the first place (including the man breasts he developed, which can happen to former abusers of steroids).
"I ate a whole labrador retriever once, I'M SERIOUS!" I know that Hatred is kind of unhinged but I can't think of a reason why he would do that, leave ideas in replies.
@@stevenclark1662 being over 50 is pretty old, I say this as a man in his early 30s. Take care of yourself and you too can be as fit as scaramantula or dr z in your old age.
@@juliankirby9880 ya, Im 30. I know. Its different, you can't shed weight like you could in your 20s. Doctors start prescribing meds that aren't to "get rid of a problem, just manage the problem" I thought 50 was old til I hit 30, now I gotta work my ass off to ensure 50 ISN'T old by the time I get there. That was my point, I didn't explain it well.
I have a theory that Hatred has secretly been with the Peril Partnership this entire time. We know he was a double agent at one point, so I wouldn't put it past him. Plus the Peril Partnership is a bigger threat these days. He seems a lot more capable in his early appearances than he does now but that could just be an act. And then there's this line: "I've learned how to bide my time and strike when the troops are in position."
unfortunately, one of the best scenes (imho) is missing: (ok, it is more about the other guy in that scene, but still...) "what is your name?" "my name is sgt. hatred" "that's not what it says on your drivers license, dude ... join us or we're gonna straight up eat you son, no lies..."
It really speaks volumes to Doc and Jackson’s level of writing for making a very enjoyable character like Hatred. ….Especially since he’s a former Pedophile….
@@KIRA-EL ik dude in high school we had the option of getting hit by a taser sprayed by mace or both (it was for law enforcement class i got both my parents permission)i took both and lowkey id rather take the taser any damn day
I really didn't like Hatred when he joined the cast as a regular, I found him annoying. Then we got to the later seasons where Brock came back, and Hatred got relegated to side character again. Now I miss him. That's good character development.
