The way hey shouts "YES" after furiously kicking and swatting a deflated beach ball off the course and putting a ball into a hole 5 ft away is one of this movie's underrated gems
I just love how he still managed to crash that rage putt into the hole. Whenever I do a rage putt its never on line and it ends up further away on the other side lol.
@@smacc1323 Given that those are Happy fans, they wouldn't know what golf really is lol. It was a class-ist remark: the upper classes jabbing at the lower.
i never noticed that when i watched the movie years ago and i laughed so hard when i realized he’s doing the superhero intro while he’s 5 feet from the podium. funny as fuck.
My dad went to college with Shooter (Chris McDonald). My dad isn't exactly a theatre buff but went to all his performances because he was so incredible. Great actor and absolutely terrific character.
@@evanjohnson1299 the best part is that he didn't even want to do the movie in the first place because he was worried about the script but has since said it was the best decision of his career once he did take the role. I think I read somewhere that he thought Shooter being afraid of Happy wouldn't work since he was taller than Sandler, but then they said Happy would have his anger issues and he was okay with the idea.
Because it wasn’t the line lol i saw him on a podcast clip talking about it and he said he couldn’t come back at that line and they kept that NOoO in there
@@jeffsoltess4853 hahaha i know! Shooter has been making appearances on random podcasts lately and talking about this role hopefully they pop up on your feed definitely watch them
OK. Would of fired my caddie also if he told me to use a 5 iron to bump and run with at around 20 yards Might as well just putt cause five has hardly any loft.
yeah he was also in Flubber, Leave It To Beaver, Thelma & Louise, The Iron Giant, Spy Kids 2, 61* where he portrayed Yankees longtime beloved announcer Mel Allen and also in da ESPN miniseries The Bronx Is Burning he portrayed Joe DiMaggio
He was also Lt. Commander Castillo on Star Trek TNG. The "Yesterday's Enterprise" episode. In case you want to see him portraying a good guy. He came off pretty good in that role too.
One of those you see a ton when you're younger, to the point you get sick to absolute death of it. Then, you don't watch it for like 10 years and an 8 minutes youtube vid has you in tears. What a great movie.
0:33 look at the way he's looking at her grabbing his suit...you can tell he's thinking "Stop touching me, you're wrinkling Shooter's suit". Never noticed that before....absolutely brilliant acting. He's the best character in this movie by far.
blppt crazy but true. This is one of my favorite movie characters ever. Every scene he takes it. I know he didn't win any awards because comedies like this NEVER win big awards but damn he was absolutely perfect in this movie. And this scene at 33 seconds is more proof. Soooo believable
@@Imarac86 Except he doesn't have any romantic interest in her. He's annoyed by Virginia's enthusiasm and fascination with Happy and wanted to get as far away from her as possible. Like everyone else Shooter comes across, he thinks she's beneath him. As far as he's concerned, she's just a secretary. Evident by how he wanted her to fetch him a drink.
That guy already earned that money by irritating Happy to the point where he fought Bob Barker. The money was his at that point so it would have been his treat if he was offering to pay.
McDonald is perfect in this role. And his reaction to the ‘pos for breakfast,’ line is classic. First, in any normal movie before this, Shooter’s line is a mic drop ending to that interaction, but in this amazing movie, Happy INSTANTLY turns it on him. And then Shooter’s reaction is so human: the great line was stolen from him and he tried to think of some response better than ‘no,’ but he eventually had to give up and walk away, admitting defeat. Brilliant comedic writing, acting, and execution.
Christopher McDonald is really underrated! And I love that he starts the movie off with his facade, nice-guy image firmly in place that he drops when the cameras aren't looking, but the more Happy wins the more that facade cracks in public, until he's the same "shooter" in front of the cameras that he was behind them. An absolute fantastically written and performed villain! _"Now, you lay another finger on me, I burn the house down, and piss on the ashes!"_ - Ouch!!! Talk about finding the right pressure point and squeezing!!!
"Oh yeah where did he finish? Dead Last? Yeah he had a good day." That's what Peyton Manning should have said in the superbowl press conference about Cam Newton.
TrueFaith94 that's what's so crazy. Someway somehow I feel a little bad for shooter even though he's a horrible guy he really worked his whole life to be great and happy just starts golfing and beats him within like a few months lol
Daniel Bortz it really was. One of my favorite performances ever and idk how anyone can't love it. Comedies like this never win awards but he should have had serious consideration for an oscar. It was one of the funniest characters ever!
In my youth I was a Happy fan. 20+ years later I do kinda side more with Shooter. Guy worked hard at his craft and got shown up by some freak of nature that didn't even like the sport.
I dunno man, I was just thinking about what I'd do if I was the actor playing him in the movie, and I think it comes down to this: Shooter is pure id. He thinks he's the most important person in the world, and therefore, anything that he wants to do must be the right thing to do, since he wants to do it, and after all, he's the most important person in the world. Definitely a Trump type.
7:13 he said that he really wanted to try to sink the shot for real instead of having the camera cut to the hole. And that was try 5 of 7 that the director agreed to let him have so that was kind of a real celebration that they left in there. Just saw an interview where he talked about it. Pretty cool.
Yeah. Heard that too. I came to this video just to see the putt. LOL. Because just saw the grease 2 trailer and he was in that film a looong time ago (I'm pretty sure it was him) so I had some nostalgic feelings about this putt...
I like how the "very special treat for you" reveal is Shooter McGavin with his back turned to the crowd. Like the crowd wouldn't see him standing there lol
No exaggeration, I know a guy who looks and sounds almost exactly like Shooter McGavin, but he plays tennis instead of golf and is a very good player. Even his personality is a lot like him and has very similar mannerisms. Everytime I see him all I can think of is Shooter and it kills me lol
As an ex-semi pro tennis player myself, I can say that Shooters character would 100% translate to tennis flawlessly. I knew a lot of rich club guys that not only acted like Shooter, but dressed exactly like him too. 😂
