Was going to make that exact same comment. Jack is really good with those amazing little quotes. I still think of that line whenever I see that type of moment in a movie.
That happened to *me* tonight. Finally saw Faust and it broke my shit. My buddy was utterly incredulous and I was absolutely beside myself, cry laughing into a pillow. The reveal of that dude in the Halloween costume.. where he grins like a maniac with the little turkey dangly bits on his face, that jiggled when he moved around. I've never seen anything more ridiculous that was intended to be intimidating in my life.
It’s genuinely hilarious at points. Even better when you’re watching it with your mom and the whole time she keeps asking “Why are you laughing so hard!?”
What an inauspicious place to find 2 absolute geniuses. Your ideas are so resplendent as to be humbling. Let's make some calls. 😂 .. Do, um, you guys know any Hollywood people?
I honestly don't know what response was better. His Hologram One that you already mentioned, or his Faust reaction where his jaw just dropped when he saw the costume.
This continues to be my all-time favorite episode of the series for that reason alone. Jack (as well as everyone else in the RLM troupe) is a treasure.
I was literally just watching DS9 and marveling at how well he pulled off that weyun(?) character, but the andorian on Enterprise is actually one of my favorite Star Trek alien characters
@@orangejoe54 Not only did he pull off Weyoun, he also played the Ferenghi liquidator Brunt. Those characters are almost the exact opposite of one another. There’s even an episode where Brunt joins a group of Ferenghi to confront Weyoun, so he literally had to confront himself.
@@mellowyellow6572 apparently the original plan was to have both of combs characters on screen at once, which combs was excited to do, but I think they changed it because it would have been more expensive.
Watched Hologram Man once, half way through the guy who made the subtitles just gave up. Last couple of lines are just random symbols and then nothing for the rest of the movie.
the dementia is spreading through this webzone, now it's getting to you SuperDevolution!!!... and then it's gonna get to me! Oh My Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-...
I watched Faust in theatres when they released it in Spain. It was hilarious. I've never seen a screening with so many laughs, people drinking beer and talking to each other the whole movie. You can't take it seriously.
Never seen the movie, but read the comics. It's not a comedy. It's just a brutal subversion of the superhero genre. There's no magic or demons in it, but there's a lot of imagery of that because the main character is delusional. That's the subversion; it's not about a superhero, it's about a lunatic serial killer who puts on a costume and butchers petty street criminals that he THINKS are cultists and demons.
The blob boob monster lady, actually that would have been interesting if she actually looked like that all the time, and like craved more breast meat to add to her blob body, could have made for a interesting villain though they couldn’t have her squirting nipples out all the time, might need a robe specific for her, or something, but of course they aren’t that creative, and also Faust, could just kill her by busting her tits, and having her shrink away.
The truly amazing thing about Blood Street is that it's actually a direct sequel to Low Blow so somehow, in the four years between the events of Low Blow and Blood Street (because the latter takes place in 1990), Joe Wong went from a schlub with a crummy office and a rundown Oldsmobile to becoming San Fran's top P.I.
@@InVinoVeratas My parents saw it at a drive in movie theater when it came out and spent forever trying to find a home release but never did. Up until the grave my mom was searching for the Faust DVD, she loved that movie and didn't believe in online streaming rentals.
Rewatching this now for probably the 4th or 5th time, it's one of the best BOTW episodes - all four of them on top form throughout the screenings and the discussion. It's the RLM Dream Team.
To be fair LA Confidential has an iconic scene where a character shoots a bad guy in an elevator with a shotgun as the doors are closing, but since that movie was made by people who know what they're doing, it comes across as badass.
Rewatching this and hearing them mention Leo Fong is still alive and making movies, I was wondering how old Leo Fong actually is and did some searching, only to find out Leo starred in a Len Kabasinski movie just last year. This is the best timeline.
(Seriously, though, I'm kinda annoyed by all the "2020 the worst year ever" memes. I mean it wasn't an easy year, sure, but overall, all things considered, it barely ranks at slightly below average on my personal scale of things at least.)
All three movies are connected. Richard Norton, who was in Blood Street, was also in Cyber Tracker which was directed by Richard Pepin who also directed Hologram Man. In Hologram Man, Joe Lara played Decoda and also played Tarzan in a TV movie. The same TV Movie starred Andrew Divoff, who played M in Foust. No Gimicks is a lie...
I'm fairly certain that the whole reason the end credits for Blood Street show everyone's nationality, is so that Leo Fong can let the viewer know that he isn't an immigrant.
Having a show based on a gimmick of having no gimmicks is itself a gimmick and therefore a lie and a subversion of our expectations that there would be a gimmick, but then that there would be no gimmick, which is a gimmick and therefor a subversion of our families which as we know is satisfying. Also 10/10 would watch again even though I haven't watched it yet, is having no gimmicks replacing having a gimmick by having a gimmick of having no gimmick?
God Damn it! Have you boys learned nothing from Leo Fong? When you don't know how to end something like this episode you have mask men run in and shoot their guns randomly and run out of frame!
That would have been excellent. When they were talking about wanting to be killed by Low Blow, I wanted him to walk in and punch them all like the flashback jabronies so bad. Magic isn't real
I'm glad in editing they added the bit about the Faust comic predating Spawn because I was about to become annoyed at them saying Faust was copying Spawn... Fun fact about that comic... the original series ran 15 issues and took about 25 years to come out! I was working at a comic shop when it started, and it became a running joke in the early years about how it was a "monthly" comic that barely made it once a year. I think it ultimately ended with a whimper just to be done... the early issues are pretty crazy, and all but hardcore pornography with crazy detail by the artist... when I heard this movie came out (still haven't seen it) I couldn't figure out how they could make it without it being a XXX film.
I was actually lucky enough to find a copy of one of the comics! Good lord, it is very...interesting. Lots of b/w gore and a lengthy, uncomfortable in character write-up about the therapist's character's rape. ):
i remember i used to collect them because i really liked the art (and sex and gore, or course) - but i was a stoner back then, so who knows if it was actually good or not
When I saw the episode title I thought it was going to be an adaptation of the German legend and/or play. Then I realized it was based on the comic and I thought NO FUCKING WAY! Fortunately the movie seems to have been very toned down from the comic. Like for example the snake coming out of the woman's "bellybutton," or that it much more implies that It's a superhero story with fun demons and cultists, rather than the much darker reality of the comic.
Yo Richard Pepper, he was just 40 When the government built a very strange machine Designed to reprogram the obscene (He's gonna shock 'em all, 'cuz hes Hologram Man!) So they took out his soul and the machine just quit Even though Richard was inside of it There was a great big FLASH, Every thing just changed His acting career got all re-arranged! (Hologram, Hologram)
I’ve watched this episode 5 or 6 times and Jack losing it when Jay just gives up on Hologram Man when he starts typing on the keyboard always makes me smile.
Just saw "Society" and all I gotta say is "My mind was not ready to see this"! Me and my friend had to sit down and just contemplate what we had seen for half and hour before we felt ready to go on with our lives. Jay and Mike NEED to do a re:View on it!
"Suddenly, John has powers he can't even control, much less understand. The violent urges, the razor sharp claws, the constant pain, and the pulsating scar on the palm of his hand." - Welcome to puberty, bucko.
Wow. The concept of a sci fi universe where prisoners have their consciousness uploaded into a computer to be "reprogrammed" sounds like a mind blowing idea for a story. Too bad the idea was wasted to make a movie about a guy who would probably be a throwaway villain on a Saturday morning cartoon. If any of you writers out there want to poach this idea, please, I will buy 3 copies of your book.
Fun fact for Witcher fans. Mark Frost, the guy who plays Faust, is the voice actor for Iorveth in Witcher 2 and a bunch of side characters in Witcher 3. And he also played the Joker in some Batman Live Action thing which seems like the perfect role for him, judging from this video.
As per Jay's recommendation, I watched Society (1989) without seeking any context further than what Jay gives during their Faust review. I would also recommend watching that movie, without seeking any further context.
