I’m sorry to say but la food don’t hit I bought fried rice that was bland as ever one time I bought Jamacian ox tails that were grey (due to no browning or the people probably just weren’t jamacian) the list goes on I got catfish by a vegan restaurant they did not make it obvious they were vegan and had chicken and waffles this and that it came and I was stoked😂😂 oh nah I got stories
@@sneer0101 exactly. I learned this as I got older. You don't need everything to fall off the bone. It doesn't mean it's going to taste food. It's just overcooked, but oxtail needs to be cooked for hours
If you want the best soul food you need to know a grandma. I ate soul food at many places but my homies grandma was the best i had. All the collard greens were nasty af. Usually if the greens are poppin then the rest is good. Soul food has no standard recipe it's made from the soul and better everytime. If you're looking for that particular taste you ain't gonna find it at some restaurant.
Honestly bbq has been pretty expensive for a while now, let alone oxtails, $25 dollars isn’t cheap but even outside of cali it’s about what I would expect to pay.
I REALLY like how you are honest with your reviews. Also when you do comparisons between two different restaurants but with the same type of food item. Plus the breakdown of cost per weight of food, that's awesome.
I moved to the west side of chicago a year or so ago and fell in love with soul food because there is so much AMAZING soul food here. Never had the guts to try ox tails though. After hearing you say its tbe best thing you ate all year, i will be trying some this weekend. Thanks!
That oxtail looks perfectly cooked. Still on the bone yet very tender. It should be easy to pull all the meat off with your teeth. I do hope it’s lovingly seasoned. We Brit’s used to add Lima beans to ours as they finished cooking to add some thickness and more rich creaminess to the gravy. Yum! (I’ve never had it with black eyed peas so I’ll have to try that sometime.)
Yeah. Soul food has always been overpriced out West. (& oxtails are expensive..period 🤷♂️😂) Dulan’s actually give you big portions. I can eat two meals off of one plate. lol 💯 The South still holds the title for best, reasonably priced, Soul food.
It’s LA that’s normal there. Inflation in LA is insane bro gas is like $7-8 a gallon, high 6s on a GOOD day. Like people are like wow gas is so cheap now when I goes down to $6. It’s crazy
I was a meat cutter in a small town in new york for years. Lot of white people live here. We only get oxtail frozen you couldn't give it away very inexpensive. But... Some individuals saw we at a low price they stock up buy a lot of it. I always heard the meat really good falls apart if cook right. I understood some cultures think of it high end like lobster. White people think its bad meat because its the tail of the cow. I am white always threw me off too why it was a big deal but i should try it.
Way better if you learn to cook them, pretty cheap cut, lots of collagen. Makes a damn good broth with some veggies cooked on a pressure pot. In Brazil we have a dish called “rabada” if you want to try it
I've never had black eyed peas that were even a little sweet. Also, if greens don't come with pot liquor, you can keep them. Half the point of greens is soaking cornbread in the jucies. Also also, that plate needs some chow chow or pepper vinegar to cut the rich fattiness.
YOU SHOULD TRY THE SHORT RIBS & YAMS WITH MASHED POTATOES AND EXTRA GRAVY. TRY THEY MEATLOAF IT'S PRETTY GOOD TOO BUT I'M IN LOVE WITH THE SHORT RIB DINNER PLATE.
@@anthonybutler2001brother, cali be taxing like crazy over there. It’s not called being cheap, it’s called not wanting to overpay for something that should cost less and DOES cost less in other states😭😭
@@christophergarcia8949 Bro supply and demand is a real thing and cost of living and doing business is different in each state….By your logic rent should be the same everywhere and that’s not practical!
Me and my girl love oxtail. I actually made some yesterday in the crockpot that was dank. Its just really expensive. I paid 35 for 2 packs with 4 in each one then after cutting all that fat off it before cooking really shrinks down but it's worth it
There I just had tasty baked fish with sides of okra tomato corn plus candied yams and mashed potatoes( or dressing) with gravy-add pepper-and the cornbread. Strawberry lemonade. Dessert-Pineapple coconut cake.
Not all of us have dirty minds. Love that you explore food from all cultures, man. Your reactions are fun to watch. The food makes me hungry every time and I normally have no appetite.
Oxtail is my thang....I've had it from many many parts of the world...I'd say from over 20 different countries. My top 5 are Jamaican, Croatian, Filipino, Nicaraguan, & Korean. OMG can't go wrong with any TBH enjoy yall
Next needs to eat the cornbread WITH his greens. Same for the black eyes peas, rice and cornbread. Add a little hotsauce too for the peas and vinegar on the greens ❤
