One use for the Phillips that makes it better than having a corkscrew is as a self-defense weapon that is non-lethal. It could work just as well in the forest if you get attacked by an animal or in the city by a person. Good force multiplier when you hold it that way.
My Leatherman Charge Ti technically doesn't have a bottle opener but, if you can't open a bottle with the can opener, there's the pliers and not to mention if you're skilled you can just use the handles considering people do it successfully with a Bic lighter.
The Fieldmaster is the Huntsman's less capable brother, the one with the Philips screwdriver as a back spring tool, a place where basically its use is severely limited as Only in line Phillips are useful . The Huntsman is superior because its corkscrew is useful not just for opening wine bottles , untying knots & boring into wood to make screw holes but because it can itself be used as a tool holder for the Fire Ant & tinder spiral or the mini eyeglasses screwdriver & the tinder spiral if you opt to put the Firefly ferro rod in place of the toothpick. The Fieldmaster lacks these capabilities & as such I haven't bought one.
Agree with you 100 percent. I back the Huntsman for my next knife as, for me, the corkscrew could be more useful than the Phillips screwdriver. I'm not a wine drinker, but as you say, it has other uses. Also if I met some guys who'd forgotten their corkscrew, I'd be mighty popular!
@@nigelh3253 Happy Monday. Nowadays the Phillips screwdriver is less useful than in the past as more & more manufacturers have switched to using Torx screws in equipment as standard. Victorinox has recognized this with their Cybertool series ( I have the 91mm Cybertool M ) having a range of Torx bits & their Swiss Tool series also having the option for Torx bits in a set as an add on. I cant recall the last time I used a Phillips screwdriver at home but I use quite often the Torx bits in my Cybertool M.
@@stevesinclair4159 A very good point there, Steve. Interesting how all Victorinox have the can opener still, but of course many cans (beer/food) now have ring-pulls. But I think the can opener could come in handy sometimes!
@@nigelh3253 IMO the Wenger Claw style can opener was far superior to the standard Victorinox can opener & I have never used the small screwdriver tip on the can opener. I wish that Victorinox would ditch the separate can opener & cap lifter tools and make the Combo tool screwdriver / cap lifter / can opener that is found on the 91mm Compact & 84mm SAK's like the Bantam & Waiter as the standard can opener / cap lifter / screwdriver on all their knives.
Steve your preaching to the choir. Any SAK enthusiast knows that if it ain’t got a corkscrew, it ain’t a real SAK. But in all seriousness I prefer the corkscrew especially outdoors for specifically the reasons you mention. Storing 🔥 making materials. I find the back Phillips or any T handle or 90 deg driver to be frustrating to use for anything more than occasionally.
The best Swiss army knife of all is the one in your pocket when you need it? The Wenger scissors better than the Victorinox scissors? Possible when they have the rivet pivot but s*** with the screw? Love the style of your video's looking forward to the next one.
That’s where I always get them from. Could be a regional issue though. I just checked and there were various sellers with them for example one called a hibye keychain pocket suspension clip.
Actually I have but it isn’t the Fieldmaster. I have an extremely rare one with the perfect set of tools being refurbished in Switzerland right now. Can’t wait to get it and be able to feature.
I am a big fan of the Farmer X. I need to pick one up but I keep finding vintage models I would rather get while I can when I can get a Farmer X any time.
