BRANDS TESTED:18V Milwaukee Brushless, 20V DeWalt Brushless, 18V Makita (both brushless DC motor and brushed), 18V Ryobi Brushless, 18V Heimerdinger (brushed), 18V Hart , and 18V Bauer. All saws tested using 4 amp hour battery, except the Bauer which was tested using a 3 amp hour battery. Saws tested for cutting speed through metal pipe, ½ by 3 inch mild steel, and a nail embedded 4x4. I always purchase all products and supplies. So, than you for helping make these videos possible through your support! Also, thank you very much for all the terrific video ideas, including this one!

That Dewalt saw you tested here is the "FlexVolt Advantage" version, so if you use a FlexVolt battery with it instead of just the plain 20V, it's going to operate at 60V and theoretically be even more powerful. Would love if you tested that too! Thanks Todd!

One thing that I think would be really neat is to do an episode that takes a look at all the previously-completed power tool comparisons, and then to a 'brand' test. That way if you have to commit to a battery system, you can base that decision on many tools vs a single tool result.

That's why I decided to go with Ryobi after having just a cordless drill for many years (two different brands). I decided I was going to go all in on cordless (had previously been a corded fan) and wanted the system that build reasonably good home gamer tools and had a very wide variety with the same battery, from tire inflators to work lights to recip saws. Also I like that Ryobi hasn't changed their battery mount for many years even as they move to newer battery technology - a 20 year old Ryobi tool that shipped with a NiMH battery will take a new LiIon battery just fine.
@BillCarlson
@BillCarlson 3 года назад
@@John_Ridley Same here. I've got a wall full of Ryobi tools - as this test (and others) have shown that their tools are usually pretty decent, but less than half the price of Dewalt, Milwaukee, or Makita. That means I can have double the number of tools at the same price, which is more important (to me - a DIYer) than making the cuts faster.

My cordless tools are all from the same brand, not necessarily because I think it's the best, but once you're invested in a particular battery ecosystem, it doesn't make sense to have to buy multiple chargers and batteries that aren't compatible with one another. Your comment is the very reason I have stuck with soley makita tools in the 18v line up. I like that my batteries fit any of the tools made since 2007 and that the heavier tools just take 2 of the same batteries I already own. I use milwaukee 12v stuff and have been tempted by some of their 18v offerings, but I cannot stand having to buy another set of batteries. For reference, I have 80,batteries in makita and over 60 tools, 50 batteries and 44 tools in milwaukee m12

@Cole Craypo - Because for a hobbyist, Milwaukee isn't cost effective. For the number of Ryobi tools I have, I'd have spent double that money, if not more, buying Milwaukee - and none of my Ryobi's have broken down as of yet. That includes the very first 18 volt drill and saw that I bought, long before Lithium-Ion batteries were the standard for any of them. (I still have _one_ rechargeable NiMH battery left)

@Cole Craypo the only milwaukee tool that'd actually be worth paying twice as much as I'd pay for a dewalt would be the impacts. Otherwise it just ain't worth double the price for negligible differences in performance.

Man! I really love your comparison videos! Especially the lengths you go to to standardize testing criteria and eliminate variables for more accurate results. In this same spirit though, I really wish u would consider including the results for Dewalt's 60V capable power tools in 2 separate categories going forward. 1. using standard 20V Max & the other when using Flexvolt batteries. Considering Dewalt often claims >50%+ performance just by swapping batteries. That's basically like comparing Harbor Freights tools to Milwaukee or Snap-On's. We as consumers, deserve to know if there is any truth to these claims or not & I can't think of another place where we'd have access to such a trustworthy source of unbiased results & see Dewalt's claims put to the test for such a large audience. Thanks again

Sorry, but as a DeWalt owner for 16+ years, you know who I’m rooting for. Let’s see. The extra weight from the DeWalt can actually be a benefit, especially when trimming high up branches that you can’t press down against. The weight of the tool does the job for you. And have we heard anything about tools ever being too heavy duty?? Keep in mind, my dad bought me the DeWalt 18V combo kit when I was 19. Everything still works like new. My dad was an engineer and knew tools. He would only buy quality. He’s now passed, but watching these videos would lift his heart ❤️ and make him proud. Just like my old man, DeWalts have balls. God Bless you dad!!

Great video as always. I'm curious how the duty cycle for these tools compares. Could they all make multiple cuts through that mild steel billet, or would some of them start overheating if you ran them continuously for multiple cuts? Also, battery life comparisons would be interesting since less efficient and hotter running motors would likely run out of battery long before other more efficient saws.

I had a spare early model 18 V Battery Ryobi cut off saw. I also had a pole that extended. I took the saw and clamped it to the end of the pole with SSteel hose clamps, then I rigged a trigger pull with another slightly loose hose clamp, and another one to hold it to the handle. Then I attached a 15' nylon rope to the trigger pull clamp, viola, a pole saw with a carbide wood bit for trimming trees. It works very well and is very controllable. I call it my Red Neck Pole Saw.
