Great video. I've used the zd racing shocks with outcast springs on them. I also added spacers inside to limit the travel and lower the ride height. They were ok but replacing them often means waiting a while for them because I was buying from China. The shafts still bend and they still leak. I went ahead and bought some v3 stock shocks from Jenny's rcs which I believe fixed the leaking issues. But the parts are easy to get and they are easy to work on. So I just keep some spare rod ends in case one bends. I've noticed that if one bends, it's better to replace it rather than trying to straighten it as it will often cause it to leak.

Agree 100% I made this video, as I was curious what the other options were really like. I am completely fine running stock shocks, and just replacing them occassionally.

I'm a fan of those proline shocks, at least in your demo. They just seem to perform the best, and on a heavier rig like my Vorteks, I think they'd work perfectly with how I thrash that poor thing off jumps. I ended up using the Hobao Hyper SS EV shocks on my BigRock and Senton BLX's, you have to put a spacer inside to shorten them up a bit. They are strong and have taken some big leaps. Best of all, their parts can be ordered from their US site. I snagged mine from Jenny's.

Thanks for sharing the different shocks. The shocks that come on the 3s Typhon of Granite always seem to come apart. They work well but the shaft seems to pull loose from the bottom shock end. I just swapped mine with some cheap E-Bay specials that are actually for the 1/10 Traxxas Slash, Rustler or Stampede 4x4. Only $17 for all 4. Even those preform and hold up better than the stock ones. I really cant afford good shocks but if I could I would definitely go with ProLine.

Very welcome video! I too bent a few factory shocks, and wasn't quite sure where to go, I saw many people recommend the typhon 6s shocks though but I kind of left it for another day and now my car sits dumb and unused at my parent's house. And its not as if I bash my typhon 3s like crazy, but rather try to drive it around fast and controlled, at most a mini jump here and there... This might get me into pulling it out again because it still a a fun fast car to drive, just I'm not convinced about the whole durability thing... I also need to upgrade the motor mount which bends, not just me but seems like everyone else too... Thanks for the comparison! May the shock be with you

My buddy has had a Slash 4x4 and a Big Rock for quite a while before i got my Senton. I have seen him bend a couple ebay shock shafts, and break one shock cap. Even though they are metal, the metal quality is not very good. We both ended up getting Prolines after the shop we go to said 50 a pair if you both buy set, and they have been indestructible. You will break every single thing around the shock, before you hurt the shock itself. I 100% recommend them for an upgrade. If you don't want to upgrade, the factory shocks are what i would recommend. I also recommend 50wt for the Prolines. It seems to be much better at handling jumps without being too stiff.

@williamperri3437
@williamperri3437 Год назад
@@RoadsideRC I'm 99% sure stock Typhon Springs would not fit. Rich Duperbash has like the best setup ever but apparently you can't buy the shocks he uses anymore. Another alternative is tekno shocks but they're super expensive like Pro-Line shocks. I was using DHK Maximus shocks but the lengths were off so I had to really stiffen the rear and keep the front super loose to get the chassis level. It was a total Frankenstein set up and made no sense at all but somehow running it on road with the 6s Typhon wheels made it insane!!! 😂 I could run it at like 65mph and go crazy fast around turns and it wouldn't flip with the super stiff rear and perfect grip of the Typhon wheels with no tread. I bought the Proline shocks but haven't put them on yet.
@romper4444
@romper4444 Год назад
Watching again, I think the zd racing is probably the best compromise cost per performance just by visuals but thinking a lil figure eight on the road to see how the buggy handles would help make a better decision, the grass hides everything, and the dirt track unfortunately was a lil far to visually see the buggy, but I really like how you included those lap times! Still nice to get an idea.

On my Typhon I run the stock shocks. Just add 4 o-rings to the the bottom of them istead of the original 2, it stops them form leaking. I run 10k diff fluid in my shocks, it absorbes the high jumps very well. The Typhon also bodyslaps alot, I think that helps save the shocks. I used to bend and break far more shocks on my senton and granite, but not on the Typhon.

Just from the drop test alone it seems that most of them need a thicker oil to solve one of the biggest problems . ( belly slap ) If that RC is hitting the ground from that height then you can only imagine how hard it is hitting from a 5 to 7 foot bash . There is a fine line to find the right weight of oil because if you do a lot of bashing that is where much of your RC damage will come from if it is hitting the ground that hard over time with the wrong oil . IMO there is no perfect solution because these things are going to break and are designed to do just that no matter what anyone says , unless of course you buy it just to sit on a shelf . LOL! Great video by the way and look forward to many more !!

Yes the Prolines are expensive, but coming from the car world where a set of mid level coilovers runs you over $1K, spending $150 for a set of high end shocks isn’t a big deal. That said, the reasons I will stick with Proline over the cheap big bore shocks are: shaft guards, Ti-nitride coated shafts, and ability to customize spring rates. The big bore shock shafts are soft and you will soon find they will no longer be smooth after a bit of use. My current Typhon Proline setup is: 4S rod ends to increase droop travel, Red/Green spring combo, F-50wt, R-40wt oil. I love it but I also don’t send it more than 5ft of air.

I have the 6S shocks on a Senton 3S and they don’t work good out of the box. You need lower them to match the length of the 3S shocks. Then you need to get some team associated yellow springs from the RC8B3, which match the 3S spring rates. Then if you want to “race” run 30 or 35 WT oil will make them nice and compliant. Or for bashing you can leave the 6S oil or run heavier 50+ WT…all and all the 6S shocks are bomb proof on a 3S as my 4 year old son drives the truck…LoL

What do you mean "you need to lower them to match the length"?
@AnttiRC
@AnttiRC Год назад
Which shocks you are using? Typhon 6S shocks matches pretty much stock 3S shocks in length. Also rear spring rate seems to be the same as stock, and front spring rate is just a bit stiffer. You can easily get about the same ride height as with stock shocks. And your tip about yellow springs seems to be incorrect. Spring rate for Typhon 6S 70mm front springs are 67.9gf/mm (3.80 lb/in) and the yellow Team Associated 70mm spring rate is 5.7 lb/in - so Associated springs are a lot stiffer than 3S stock springs. There seems to be so much misinformation about Typhon 6S shocks as people buy the cheapest 6S shocks they can get (Kraton, Mojave, Outcast?) and not the right ones for 3S cars (Typhon 6s shocks).

@AnttiRC
@AnttiRC 2 года назад
@@RoadsideRC The most evident give up is the front springs. If you compare Typhon 6S product photos to your shocks you can see that springs are different. Rear shocks are harder to tell but as you have ride height issue at the rear end, it suggests that shocks are not from Typhon 6S. I don”t have ride height issue in my Senton nor Big Rock with Typhon 6S shocks. Many Arrma 6S shocks have different shock body, shock shaft and shock spring lengths and comparing information that you can get by using part number is easily comparable to the measurements you can make to your shocks. I measured spring stiffness by hand and also using a 2 kg lead weight and can say stock Typhon 6S springs are approx the same stiffness as stock 3S shocks.

Theres a reason for the high price of the Pro-Line shocks: EXTREME Durability and engineering precision. Those shock shafts may only be 3.0mm thick, but they are tool steel, the same stuff M2C Racing uses to make upgraded hinge pins for Arrma vehicles. I bet you they are just as strong as, if not stronger than, the 8th scale Arrma Shock option, all while getting handling that is actually slightly better than stock. Ya, it really sucks that they are so damn expensive, Pro-Line is definitely ripping you off a bit at that price. However, simply put - theres no other solution like it on the market. Im pretty sure Pro-Line is aware of this and takes liberties with the pricing. I bet you they could easily sell them for $49.99 a pair and still make mad profit.

So this is a test of generic shocks not specifically set up for any 1 particular car? Firstly you can get any of these shocks to handle well by changing the oil and pistons, you just need to know what the car is doing (on track). Secondly ride height should be set by the angle of the driveshafts for all shocks tested. Thirdly, if the shock body is too big you chassis won’t even it the ground, this could break the shock towers/gearbox case/wishbones
