Precisely because popiah is such a simple dish, please don't charge more than SG $2 for one. The crunchy stuff is fried in non-vegetarian oil. Not much nutritional value but is good to fill your stomach and as a comfort food.
I think we need to understand the various costs involved for the hawker to provide this “simple dish” (e.g. ingredients, rental, labour, utilities, etc) before suggesting a arbitrary $2 value.
Is there any good popiah left in Singapore? The answer is No. High rental ,operating cost and cost of living have pushed popiah sellers to increase price and cut or replaced ingredients with cheaper options. End result, its taste is no longer there, just the external case left.
@@cypherpunk08 There are many good popiah in Singapore. One of them is from the Ann Chin Popiah stall which has been awarded Michelin. Halal certified ones such as from Qiji and Encik Tan.
