Located at a nondescript coffee shop, Java Corner serves lontong that gets a thumbs up for a former hawker who used to sell lontong himself. If cabbie Agus says it’s bagus, then it also gets Makan Kakis host Denise Tan’s vote.

$3.50. So affordable. 😋 (Java Corner is located in Khong Guan Restaurant, 49 Stirling Road, Singapore 141049. It’s open Mondays to Fridays, 7.30am to 4pm, closed on weekends and public holidays.)

Wathing this, I reminisce the tasty home made Lotong courtesouly treated by my lanloard Mr Peter Wee back in 2012 ; who is a Peranakan descent and a nephew of late President Wee Kim Wee.

Nowadays, the rice cakes and ketupats are boiled in plastic wrappings instead of leaves. I’m skeptical about eating them although they may claim the plastic used is food grade and safe. Cook your own lontong and sayur lodeh. Very easy dishes. You can add in whatever ingredients you want and they taste so good especially with prawns and king oyster mushrooms.
