Great job, Jane. Perseverance is key to recovery! I apologize for saying that often, and thank you for your constructive criticism. I'll make a mental note in my future videos. However, you may find the exercises in our Stage 1 video and the Stretches for Spasticity videos easier to perform. Please let me know if that helps. -Dr Scott

Thanks so much Dr. Scott. How about for affectted hand without opening? What’s the best exercise you can recommend? Thank you!
@SaeboInc
@SaeboInc 4 года назад
Great question! Thanks for asking. I would suggest trying my Stretches for Spasticity video to help open the hand and get it to relax. I would also take a look at our Stage 1 exercises, which may have some easier exercises for you to progress your hand, finger, wrist, and forearm depending on your ability to move those parts of your arm. Good luck!

Thank you for the exercises. I am recovering from a stroke and I am two weeks out. My left hand and face has been affected. I am regaining movement to my thumb and index finger but my middle, ring and pinky are lagging. Middle being better than ring, better than pinky. Are there exercises for those three fingers only? I love to paddle a kayak, but even then I'm not gripping the paddle with all of my fingers. Any advice or help would be appreciated.
@SaeboInc
@SaeboInc 3 года назад
I wouldn't try to isolate those fingers this early, but you may want some electrical stimulation (www.saebo.com/shop/saebostim-pro/). I would just try to coordinate opening and closing your hand, and would do it with both hands where you can see them. If they lag in the future, then I'd suggest doing exercises just for those two fingers and lots of e-stim. As for kayaking, we have a device called the SaeboGlide that was actually designed because someone was having trouble with rowing a canoe. Follow this link to check it out (www.saebo.com/shop/saeboglide-plus/). Best of luck - Dr Scott

Hello there i sometimes feel stiffness on my fingers whatis the best exercises formy fingersthank you
@SaeboInc
@SaeboInc 4 года назад
Maybel, thank you for asking that question. If it is typical stiffness, prolonged stretching of your fingers for a minute or two, twice a day, maybe every 12 hours, can help permanently lengthen the tight tendons. If it's related to tone, then you need to stretch multiple times throughout the day to loosen the fingers, then exercise them and work on functional grasp and release. I hope that helps. Good luck!

These aren't any good for us if we have tone/spasticity or only passive ROM, are they?
@SaeboInc
@SaeboInc 3 года назад
Though tone and spasticity can limit someone's ability to perform exercises, it doesn't mean you can't attempt to do them. Even if you see zero movement when you try something, it doesn't mean it wasn't beneficial. The signals in the brain need to be produced over and over and over again to work correctly. So whether you are thinking about doing a movement with our SaeboMind mental practice exercises, watching the movement with our Saebo Mirror Box, or using our SaeboStim Pro to complete the movement with e-stim, it's all beneficial to your recovery. I wish you the best of luck! - Dr. Scott Thompson, OTD

Hello Doctor if I keep working out in the gym will my left handicap hand will be stronger. And if I keep working out will this handicap hand will recovered
@SaeboInc
@SaeboInc 3 года назад
Tonio, this is an age old question, and it all depends on your efforts, your treatment approaches, and how your body reacts to this treatment. I don't think that working out in the gym will hurt the recovery as it's task-oriented training and repetitious, which are known factors for improving recovery, but there are too many factors to say. Best of luck, and keep up the good work. - Dr. Scott Thompson, OTD

What do you mean by finger isolation ?
@SaeboInc
@SaeboInc 3 года назад
Finger isolation usually means to work each finger individually so that you can focus your attention on that one digit moving which maximizes the brain power to complete the task. I hope that helps. - Dr. Scott Thompson, OTD

I can't move my finger first should i work on my shoulder and my Wrist after making those strong i can work on my finger and it help to move them ?
@SaeboInc
@SaeboInc 3 года назад
I would try to work it all. Your shoulder and elbow will come back the quickest, followed by the wrist and fingers. The amount of brain power it takes to move your hand is enormous which is why most of the body recovers before you start to see the hand move. Seeking the help of a rehab specialist will also help improve your recovery. Keep up the good work! - Dr. Scott Thompson, OTD
