Another fun review. I get a little excited by my new finds that have greatly improved my own travel systems. The "Sea to Summit" X series of silicone collapsible travel bowls and mugs solve problems. They are lightweight, travel flat, nest, come in wicked colors, are durable, naturally insulated, high value, and hold a lot for their weight. Welcome to travel dining ware perfected...finally! I carry my own drinks instead of relying on garbage quality fountain drinks, score some ice, and have a mini vacation with my XMug. Also we'll look at a few salt/pepper shakers and the Sea to Summit polycarbonate bowls and plates. It's all cool baby!
Sea to Summit XMug in colors: amzn.to/1WPbLGN
Sea to Summit XBowl: amzn.to/1ESqkhS

Folding silicone pet bowls of an identical design can be purchased for a fraction of the price Sea-to-Summit charge. They're practically the same thing, without the extortionate price hike. I wouldn't be surprised if they come from the same factories. Branding costs more than materials.

Fred Gandt You nailed it. My wife used to work in a pet store. These collapsible cups, and the metal dishes you see in the outdoor stores were a fraction of the cost.

Food grade silicone is the key to check for. Im doubting pet products are regulated as food safe. Just do your research as there are chemicals in pet products that you do not want to consume.

The only problem I found with my silicone mug is that when I drink coffee from it, the cup transfers some of its taste into the coffee, spoiling it's taste.

As others have stated, the silicone does impart a taste to whatever you put in it. That being said I have a xmug and xbowl in my everyday pack because they fold flat. When I go camping I bring my large Wildo Fold-a-cup. Very light and no silicone taste, but not as compact.

Damn it Nutn, you are going to make me spend more money. I love my squishy bowl. I use it at home whenever I need a bowl. But the XMug and XBowl look really slick. I like the fact that they pack down flat. The squishy can be folded and stuffed somewhere but it doesn't keep a packed shape; it wants to pop back into a bowl shape. If the XBowl and cup will fit into a military style mess kit; they would be perfect for a travel eating set. Thanks Nutn for making me spend more money. :)

I've used the X-bowl, mug and cup for a few years now. One thing you didn't mention is that the bowl and mug or cup nest together well, all three do so ok. I use the cup for hot drinks at work and it store it in the Esbit solid fuel cookset. For backpacking I might go with the squishy bowl and cup set. No ridged rims or bottoms to fuss over and they don't care being folded and crammed in a pocket.

My dog has been needing one of these since he carries his own load now. It should keep that pack nice and slim for running through brush. Of course as a young dog he can't just take it easy. He has to run 50miles on a 10mile hike!

Great video! I love the "Sea to Summit" X series. For day hikes, I us the mug and cup for tea. The X series mug makes a great led for your "GSI" stainless steel mug. If, you want to use your stainless steel mug as a pot to boil water for two cups of tea. Or you can get the X series tea set (kettle, two mugs).

I have one of those cups and it fits perfectly into the bottom of one of the stainless steel cups with the folding handles found at wal-mart ( like a GSI cup knock off) That way I can boil water in the stainless cup, pour my hot drink into the collapsible cup, and enjoy that beverage why I continue to make soup or stew in the stainless cup after I add more water. It makes for a small, compact cook kit. Plus the lid from the Stanley cooker kit also fits the generic wal-mart stainless cup. So if you already own that Stanley cooker kit you can just use the lid from it, and combine it with those 2 cups and make a mini cook kit That's great for day hikes. (plus has room to hold powdered soup mix and hot chocolate, tea and spices)

I really like the XMug -- did some serious travelling with it last winter. As a caution though, the silicone isn't a superb insulator: it's better than a plain plastic cup, but probably worse than anything that has "insulating" in the description.

I just found out that they make an Xpot. It's basically an x mug/bowl with an aluminum base to put on your backpacking stove. You should get one and do a review! *edit* turns out they have a kettle too. I am not so sure about the cookware. I have one of those grey GSI kettles. It's great. It's simple and solid. Folding cups and bowls seem logical. Folding pots and kettles; I don't know. It just occurred tome that one problem with a silicone pot or kettle is that you can place it in a camp fire. That is a must if your backpacking stove dies or runs out of fuel. The ability to boil water in a camp fire can save your life.

I have had the X Bowl and X Plate, because they were so easy to pack, but it is a pain to clean, and the base is a "cutting board", but the only problem is when your knife slips and stabs the sides. I had to get rid of the "X wear", it was not all that stable when FULL. I actually use the Delta Bowl and Delta Plate now, because it is more stable and way easier to clean. I will give the X Mug a shot next time it see it.

The problem with these silicone cups (or any polymer cups I've used) is that they really retain the odor and taste of whatever was put in them. I still take the X-mug hiking, but I'll probably switch to aluminum or stainless; carrying the few extra ounces being able to enjoy my drink.

Cutlery and drinkware are one of the most overlooked items when it comes to packing for any trips. Considering that, thanks for giving all of us a heads up on these brillant items. How does that compare to packing paper cups, especially when you're in a group? I know it's more sanitary, but I'm sure there are more datapoints behind both of them. :)

About to pull the trigger on this mug until I saw multiple reviews of this mug leaving an odor after using it with various things, or just as simple as washing it with dish soap. Nutnfancy didn't bring this up and I'm not sure if this is something they corrected with newer version or its it's the silicone itself. Can anyone leaf me in the right direction, as I want to purchase a few of these.
