YESSSSS PLEASE! I'm new to RU-vid and I have all kinds of ideas on volts and video content for my travel and outdoor lifestyle blog/brand. But most of the time I have no idea where to start or how to edit and it takes up so much time. I would love to see more videos from you guys on how you edit your videos! This is a great series idea!
Have you had any electronic issues with your GoPro Hero 4 so far? Has your sister had any issues/complaints with her Hero 5 Black? Would you recommend the GoPro Hero 5 Black if I wouldn't be using the stabilization and just using it for the video quality in a very low light situation or is there something better? I've been using 1 canon g7x & 3 sjcam4000's for like 3 years now mounted on a Samson MK-10 boom mic using their frame mount + a 1/4 male to female thread - And most of them still work fine (though one of em may be a fake, idk lol) BUT, one of the SJ4000's gave out on me a week ago.. I think I've narrowed it down to these, but if you know something else that would fit my needs better Please let me know. Cuz if the one I get is way better than my Sjcam's then I might get 2 more in the future to have matching video quality all around. GoPro Hero 5 Black refurbished = $220 Yi Lite = $100 Yi-4K (not 4K+) = $150 from their website/amazon These will be for RU-vid drum videos, SO... 1. I don't really need stabilization (unless it will help with #6) 2. I don't need great audio (I get that edited) 3. Great vid quality in 1080p 30fps, 60fps Max (if I feel like it would look cool to use 60fps) 4. Good in "low-light" situations (I film in a pitch black living room without the room lights on, using 2 Neewer 176 LED lights pointed on me & drums) & I have black backdrops all around my walls. 5. Adjustable ISO, Exposure, White Balance, etc 6. I've noticed my bass drum does cause the video to shake with my Canon G7X (1st one, not mark 2), but that could just be because it's heavy while it's attached to my boom stand. 7. Durable (I drop shit sometimes lol) 8. Decent battery life *I do like that the GoPro Hero 5 Black has Linear mode (cuz fish eye looks weird on drums), but didn't know till recently that Yi-4k has basically the same thing called Lens Distortion Correction! **I also use Screenflow 7 (if that makes a difference with those cameras above) Thoughts? 🤔🤔 I'd Love to hear your opinion on this! I'm not a tech gear kinda guy, I'm a drummer lol Thanks in advance! 😊 P.S. I DEFINITELY agree on the Apple situation where they just care about making it smaller and more expensive. I have a 2015 Macbook Pro that has every port I could need, enough processing power to edit in Screenflow, and it's durable as hell. I mean, its' straight up dropped 3 feet on hardwood flooring multiple times.... and it's still kicking! When that goes, it'll be a sad day for my wallet 😂
We've watched tons of reviews on cameras and travel equipment and this seems to be one of the most useful ones we watched! You guys make everything seem so relateable! Thanks a bunch for this!
This video was fantastic, I love the way you think! I'd LOVE to see a video on what software you use to edit your videos and maybe even a beginners guide to editing.
Now we know how you create this magical looking videos. Recognise the fact of 'grabbing' attention when walking with your camera and mic. That would be reason for me to purchase a compact camera on the side. Clear and to the point!
You need to put more of those sort of Vlogs out, as it is so informative and you have the gift of the gab that makes it understandable and perfectly clear .....Daddo
Interesting video where Stephen discusses the equipment and software he and Jess use for filming and editing their videos, especially if I liked the drone footage in their Croatia and U.K. vlogs. I use my iPad mini to film videos since I feel I don't need a vlogging camera right now and it has more memory space than my phone and iPod and I also edit my videos in Adobe Premiere Pro albeit on my MacBook Pro because I converted to it from my PC laptop nearly five years ago.
What ever works for you is great :) I will chat about it in the next video, but great to start on Premiere so you have the flexibility to switch between PC and Mac... if you just used Final Cut, you are a bit stuck.
Flying The Nest The reason I use Premiere is because I learnt how to use it when I was studying a Multimedia and Animation course at my first college and I used it for similar courses at other colleges I attended as well as my animation courses at university and yes please I would like to see a Part 2 of this video.
That's awesome, so glad they taught you! haha didn't mention it but I learnt Premiere Pro in school - i think it was V2 back in the day, so because I started on it I stuck to it! What would you like to see in Part 2?
Yes please a part 2 would be amazing. BTW I love all you vlogs I binged watched all on them. You two are an inspirations to me and my hubby. We want to travel the world and had no idea it was possible.
Stephen you are good teacher. This is the best vlogging gear video that I have watched. So, a how you edit would probably be equally useful and interesting. I have enjoyed your channel for quite sometime now. Thank you.
Great video, thanks! Very interesting to see what you use. Keen to see some comparisons of the same scenery taken with the different cameras and lenses.
Hi! I just want to ask, how do you guys pack your cameras and drones? What camera do you guys usually bring when going out? ....and what brand of camera bag/backpack that you recommend? Thanks. Love from Malaysia 😘
Love this video! Thank you for sharing!! I'd love to see how you edit your vlogs! Also tips for shooting with a drone, music for videos, how you made your intro with your name, how you find volunteer opportunities on trips, how you plan your trips beforehand, travel tips, all that great stuff! Love y'all! If you ever make it to Colorado let me know!
man I am IN LOVE with my mavic. Honestly my best investment yet. I've found I can manage with my trusty old canon 60d for most things but a drone is KILLER ❤️😍. Also thanks for mentioning what you think about macbooks! I didn't know that they the new pro is not as gutsy. Will probably be making the switch to pc when my pro dies.
Great video Stephen. What is the weight of your Sony cam? It looks like DSLR size but of course it is probably lighter... I hope! Do you do any electronic back ups to a cloud service etc? I was hoping you would talk about your drone. My hubby has been eyeing up drones and we were under the impression the phantom had better video quality from what we had read but it's good to hear a real life user experience. The Mavic is just so much more compact and I feel like we carry around some much gear when we travel that I I couldn't imagine having to lug a phantom round too. Would love to see an editing video xx
Hey guys. I am using a Canon G7X Mark II for most of the shots but I am not super happy. I want something bigger and with better picture quality. Any recommendation. I am not into Sony so any Canon recommendations are highly appreciated. Thanks guys :) PS, I titally agree with the Mavic. It's the best right now, especially when travelling. Ohhh, and again big thumbs up for such an interesting and helpful video.
It sounds like you are starting to grow as a vlogger which is amazing to hear :) an SLR or mirror-less camera set up will be the next step up. Is there is a particular reason you don't like Sony? Also what was your budget because that can play a lot into what camera you can get!
I am travel vlogging (and sometimes food vlogging) since last year December. Trying to shoot informative and interesting to watch videos and it goes good so far (just a bit slow on the subscribers...lol) I saw a few Canon vs Sony comparison videos and always liked the picture of the Canon more. Your vlogs are great and I love the high quality (I actually thought you guys are shooting with a Cannon). I might need to do some more investigation. Meeting a bunch of photo- and videographors and Canon people early September for a seminar (always have to invest some money in getting better and as good as you are), so let's see. You guys are so enjoyable to watch and if you are in Malaysia or Thailand one day let me know. would love to exchange vlogging experiences. :)
That is true! I almost did feel convinced to get the Canon 1DXII when I was with Matjoez in Uluru as it had all the features I wanted plus 4K/60fps was incredible! however, the size of it did put me off! Maybe try renting one and see if you like it?
Good idea. That's true. The size matters. That's why I am still filming with the G7X. It is just convenient and as you said in your vid, it does not cause attention (well almost not). Will see if I can rent one to check it out :)
Yes! Please do an editing process video!! Love that yours will be on a PC too! Since like you stated pretty much all vloggers are MacBook users and a MacBook just isn't in our budget right now! (:
Thanks for this! You practically just did all my research for my EFP Studio upgrades! (Although now I feel like a chump shooting on a Panasonic GH4 and cutting on a laptop with only 16GB of RAM and a GTX960M video card...) ;)
Awesome and super helpful! Loved the video! I've heard Sony cameras are really good! Looks like that'll hopefully be my next investment, for now I'm just vlogging on the g7x, again I heard the small Compact Sony camera (I don't remember what it is called) was better then the g7x so I think when I upgrade I would have to do some serious research haha 😊
Can you please do an updated video on this topic if you’ve discovered and started using new and better products? :) Otherwise, thank you this was very helpful!!!! :)
Hi! My wife and I are fans of you and Jess and subscribers of your vlog. I can’t imagine holding a camera with just my hand. Do you still do it that way? What else do you do to be more discreet? I imagine you get a lot of strange looks. Thank you for reading this.
Guys what would you say is similar to the CANON PowerShot G7X? But a little cheaper? they are going for £499 in the UK but i'm looking for something maybe £100 less...! thanks for any advise
Hi can you use pentium laptop to edit vlogs etc or does it have to be something much stronger such as i3 or more. And what editing soft ware works with what laptops thanks
I would say so to an extent, I think the latest iPhones and Samsungs still have excellent camera's, just the stabilisation in them makes it look super rough IMO.
I do love the Sony RX100 series - we had the 2, but we dropped it after 6 months - $1000 down the drain... :( yep I cired haha! We thought rather than buying another RX100, instead buy the G7X for half the price, so if we dropped it again, it wouldnt be so bad!
haha I knoooooow! if I get some more spare change I might pick up the RX100V or 6 or 7 by the time I get around to one seeing as they release them every few months haha
Hey y'all I know that this has nothing to do with this video but I'm just asking for y'all to pray for those in danger in south Texas as there is a major hurricane passing through the area bringing extreme flooding and winds with it. Those people really need our help. Thanks to y'all in advance.
