I swear people like Pan Pizza do a better job advertising for Netflix's animation slate than Netflix advertises literally anything that's not Stranger Things or Wednesday.
@@chillplayer1234 Netflix arguably treats their animation division worse than HBO Max as of late, I agree. All of streaming would probably go down with Netflix, though, since, at least in my experience, Netflix is still the only “premium” service that doesn’t lag like Ocarina of Time on Nintendo Switch Online on my TV…although Disney Plus’s UI is slowly catching up in terms of not taking forever to scroll to the next show on the list.
Netflix does a piss poor job at advertising in general. Not unlike how Nick kills everything not up to "spongebob" levels and pretends they don't exist. They all thought streaming would be "better" yet it just ended up being TV again.
This is absolutely one of my favorite segments of this channel. I love how Pan always shows us cartoons that haven’t garnered enough attention or the ones that are often overlooked on other lists.
That's why he's one of the few youtubers who review cartoons that don't annoy me. People like Mr Enter, Just Stop, Scfarillas Production, and LS Mark make painfully mediocre videos that always aim for the negative. They're not even funny or talented.😂 They just pretend they know about animation because they have a "hot take" or drama video. 😂 Same goes for Dumbsville and that other boring cartoon youtuber. You know. The one that makes the same generic furry jokes? BRB. Gonna Google his name and edit my comment Edit: Saberspark. He's boring too
@@frogglen6350 Yeah, I unfollowed basically all those people because, to be honest, the sheer negativity they have over inconsequential things like mediocre cartoons I could have gone my entire life without hearing about was funny for a while when I was a teen, but eventually the negativity became about as fun as reading pessimistic articles about climate change. Worse, there were times with Saberspark in particular where he would rip on a show and I would think "actually, this show looks up my alley," making it obvious they often have to reach to make me hate shows that are not irredeemable just to continue making videos, long after ripping apart low-hanging fruit like Food Fight or an especially-bad Disney remake. Pan is perhaps one of the few RU-vidrs I followed back in my teen years that I'm still subscribed to today. It's not like this video was devoid of negativity, it's just that he seems to know how to mock bad media in a funny way and not a "dude, do you need to take a long break?" kind of way.
@@frogglen6350 I honestly have to disagree with that, more so on Mark, Enter, and Schaff, with them trying to do more positive content rather than the usual negative stuff
I'll forever be grateful to Pan for showing me this series! I didn't expect to feel the way I did by the end, such a good show that I can't believe nobody talked about sooner
Giving Vtubers their own unscripted show would work a billion times better than whatever the hell Tooning out the News was since at least they usually have actual personalities.
@@SanaeKochiya Eh, it really depends on if you could get a group of genuinely funny people who are good at improvisational humor, and a good animation team that can animate what they're saying appealingly and humorously. That said, I think that hypothetical is extremely optimistic with a high margin of error. Although, that said, Sean technically just said that a show of vtubers would be better than Tooning out the News, to which I'm inclined to agree there's a fair chance that's true. Doesn't mean it'd be good, but it wouldn't take much to be better than Tooning out the News. Hell, Koala Man is probably better than Tooning out the News, doesn't mean it's worth watching.
depends if it would be actually good or not, most vtoobin routines tend to just be making a noise or saying a catchphrase in a “cute” voicefor the duration of the stream
The first episode alone is better than most of the Marvel cartoons from the past decade! It's actually one of the two Marvel cartoons that isn't made by Marvel Studios AND made for all ages! Disney Channel seems to be taking The CW's place as the superhero channel. Uuuhhh...(looks at Gotham Knights trailers) good. Man, she left Raven's Home for that? Anyway, it's funny how Disney has greenlit that show, The Villains of Valley View, (RIP) Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion, (HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOTH SHOWS!!!) Miraculous, Ghost Force and Hamster and Gretel all at the same time. Coincidence?
I'm glad you shared Tear Along the Dotted Line, its themes as old as time are ironically quite a breath of fresh air for netflix, animation and actually enertainment too lately. Such products are precious, keep up the good work. (PS the italian dub is charged with context that they weren't able to carry to the english one, but if you can tolerate reading you get the whole experience because of the original acting)
can you elaborate on the dub-point you made? I am trying to watch the show (well, it's sister show 'this world can't tear me down', which is even better than Tear Along in my opinion) in italian but it's really exhausting and believe me, as a not native english speaker, I am used to reading subtitles. What is the context you are talking about?
@@beth5627 The context would possibly refer to certain proverbs or expressions in Italian that are difficult to translate to English, or, more importantly, regional accents that would apply only to the Italian dub, and would not be comparable in the British/American versions. I can remember that at some point, he meets a mom of a friend of his, and he describes her regional Italian accent in a very vivid manner (although I don't remember exactly how). With regards to the proverbs, there is one point where he uses an expression which the armadillo then pauses to explain what he meant by it, but I suppose that those you can kind of translate in the dub (don't know how well, though). The other thing that can be difficult to translate in dubs are just the manner of speaking: having a particular tone of voice and speed, as well as a certain "melody" to the way you speak that sometimes is difficult to translate in dubs (since I have also seen the movie in Italian, I don't know how well the actors did in "translating" the manner by which the characters speak)
Gotta say, the storyline that Pan complained about was actually the cherry on top for me. I think the show would feel way more empty without all the political/science stuff. It all works together to create something bigger.
Yeah I didn't really agree with Pan but I respect his opinion. Arcane is one of my favorite shows. I think both plots in the show fit each other and are intertwined in a way that makes the show interesting.
Something worth pointing out with Moon Girl, they said they plan a serialized story a bit later down the line in the vein of Amphibia and The Owl House, i think itd be worth following it up once that happens.
That's a little disappointing honestly. Once Cerberus syndrome hit those shows they became horribly unfun when compared to how they started out. Especially The Owl House.
Makes me think about how Adventure Time started out pretty episodic but became a fantastic serialized series in time. That kind of structure absolutely can work.
Duncanville was essentially if Family guy and Bobs Burgers got married and had a baby but then divorced and bobs burgers gets full custody, but family guy can still visit and Duncanville step father was looney tunes Good I going to miss that show
I saw your Tweet the other day, but wow! It was a fun surprise to see Pumpkin Potion repped in the first few minutes! The tech behind VTubers has really improved a ton in the past couple of years (speaking from a little bit of experience, here). ...The fact that it completely outpaces a show with a low-to-mid end studio level budget produced for Paramount+ is a bit strange. I guess that goes to show how much time, tech, and effort Pumpkin puts into her streams.
Nice to see these Modern Cartoon videos back & that Pan included Scissor Seven & Tear Along the Dotted Line on here which are some underappreciated gems.
For real! I watched it when it came out and had kinda forgotten about it... But as soon as I saw it, I was like, Oh yeah, I loved that! Seen a little of Scissor Seven, and I liked what I saw!
With that thing about dialogue in Chainsaw Man The creator Fujimoto in an interview explained that when it comes to explanation dialogue keep it to a minimum. Tell what only needs to be told and let expressions and the action tell the story. Read his other work, a lot of his manga will have several panels where nobodys saying anything and the images tell more on their own.
A Marvel Cartoon I highly recommend is Hulu's Hitmonkey. A show based off one of Deadpool's wackier adversaries who goes on a criminal killing spree to avenge the death of his family while aided by the ghost of the assassin who accidentally led a group of mercs to their home in the mountains. Season 2 was confirmed and will most likely feature more obscure Marvel villains/heroes.
*THREE* Stephen Colbert shows in a RebelTaxi vid? What a time to be alive!!! Scissor Seven and Tear Along the Dotted Line look like stuff I'd be interested in. Always love when these videos come around! Your editing's gotten really good!
I personally really liked the Chip 'n Dale movie, thought it was quite witty and inventive, but you have a point about the humour. It had a problem of hanging on a joke longer than necessary, something that would've worked as a quick visual gag was given too much explanation, like the Uncanny Valley scene. It's a movie where I almost wish it could be remastered, given more time and polish both writing-wise and visually and it could've been an all-time classic. Also, they should've aimed for a PG-13. The Lonely Island guys are gleefully raunchy and work much better outside the barriers of a kid's film, so this movie should've pushed its rating much further to accommodate their comedy style.
About Arcane.... I mean, are the characters not supposed to talk on the issues that affect them? That would be like watching ATLA and complaining that they talk about how the Fire Nation are imperialists.
Thank god I'm not the only one who knows about Scissor Seven. I adore it, and am impatiently waiting for more. It strikes such a unique balance of being a nonsensical comedy not taking itself seriously that can switch gears on a dime to something serious and make you care every time. The real sense of community that it builds on top of that makes it extra unique. Really wish more people appreciated this hidden gem; unironically one of my all time favs. L Arcane take tho. the political drama and world building and lore gave the show the meat and backbone to fully support it's character drama, making it feel all the more believable and real. I gave just as much a shit about nearly every plotline throughout; Victor being my favorite character to follow.
Genuinely happy to see Moon Girl being in competent hands. The character is actually a swap of a legacy character called Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur that came out when Marvel decided to wipe out their entire pantheon with All New All Different Marvel. Needless to say, she wasn't well received because the writers couldn't come up with anything with substance for her beyond her surface level traits. But just Miles Morales has become more palletable in other forms of media and under much more competent writers, it seems she's gonna slowly build up a minor audience. Perhaps the future will look for the character going forward if the show remains a success.
Honestly the lil sister wanting to marry the older brother is just a common young child thing? My sister said she wanted to marry me when she was a toddler and adults laughed and thought thought it was cute, but she only had to grow up a little bit to realize that wouldn't and shouldn't be a thing. Edit: Also, jesus christ, how many cartoons is Michael Cusack working on??
Dear god, imagine if Pan did a Worst Cartoon News of 2022 video. That would probably be a whole hour long, considering that the year will be known as the year animation was nearly extinct.
Cartoon Network couldn't even do a proper 30th anniversary due to what David Zaslav did(To be fair Zaslav had to cut down Warner Bros' huge amount of debt after AT&T didn't do anything, he couldn't do nothing or else WB would go bankrupt). Also I think Smiling Friends & We Baby Bears was the only cartoons in 2022 that weren't effected by the extinction though the former occurred in a month.
The story behind Prime was that Man of Action and Ian Flynn writer of the better half of Archie and IDW comics who was made lead of the lore. The show was dubbed as Canon to the games. The writers wanted to make sure the show consistent with the set continuity while incorperating elements of other sonic media like Satam/Archie.
As an italian, it’s kind of surreal to see Pan talking about Zerocalcare, but there it is, now i need to find another italian comic author nobody outside of Italy ever heard of.
Whoaaa another person talking about _Scissor Seven_ on western social media!??? That’s awesome!! ^^ I’m always ecstatic whenever donghua gets some positive attention internationally, and _Scissor Seven_ definitely deserves it, especially as it just improves with each season (I’m still reeling from season 4 honestly). In reference to your comment on Seven’s VA sounding like he’s high on tranquilizers… Well, he doesn’t sound like that in the original Chinese ahaha. To anyone else who checks out _Scissor Seven,_ I want to add that a lot of people prefer the English dub and I think it’s good too, but the Chinese original language version is quite underrated and honestly it’s also really really good! It totally deserves more love, especially given the facts that Seven’s Chinese VA is also the series director, _and_ past Seven speaks Cantonese while current Seven speaks Mandarin. It’s a pretty clever way to divide the two! And of course, I have to mention that I recommend donghua and manhua in general. They’re rapidly growing industries with some really lovely hidden gems in there, including series such as _White Cat Legend, Fog Hill of Five Elements, Mo Dao Zu Shi, Legend of (Luo) Xiaohei, Ling Cage, Link Click,_ and more! In fact, I have a recommendations list I’ll try to add in a reply to this comment (just in case Google eats my comment for spam otherwise). 👀
Oh hell yeah, Tear Along The Dotted Line!! I watched that along with a few other Netflix exclusive cartoons while I was apartment sitting for my sister this past September, I definitely want to watch it again in it's original language next time
man this channel has been so consistently just stylish, it really feels like i should be watching in 4:3 in 480 but in a good way makes me wanna play my dreamcast
Vol 13 should center around Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart, Spy X Family, Bluey, The Freak Brothers, Beastars, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Spidey and His Amazing Friends, Madagascar: A Little Wild, Middlemost Post.
It made me sad hearing Pizza criticize the Jayce Viktor story of arcane as it really is the best part for me. It really develops what makes the division in class in the world. Viktors devolution into needing machines to live and going insane by the hextech to believe in a robotic revolution of mankind - to criticize each other's works. Then again, raid shadow legends sellouts have no souls so it's fair.
I’m so glad this series is back! I’ve been meaning to check out tear along the dotted line and scissor seven, I’m definitely gonna get on that now. Your take on arcane was a bit surprising lol i personally really liked all the political stuff but everyone’s got different tastes y’know
I actually quite liked the chip and dale movie, i liked how it wasnt just disney cameos and did a roger rabbit thing with having characters from other companies. Although i found it weird some characters like Chip were clearly 2d styled 3d, when there are actual 2d characters within the movie.
L take on Arcane, the political side of the show was the best part, the dichotomy of some of the characters strictly trying to capitalize on the strife of the city and some of the characters hating being dragged into it was deeply engaging. I have an actual hot take tho, Vi was boring as hell, she has some of the best action scenes but she's kind of repetitive so I don't care too much for her. Jinx heavily carried that part of the plot for me
I would honestly say rescue rangers is the kind of film I wish Space Jam a new legacy was with how it leans more with the self aware tone and its commentary on the animation industry, and I say that as someone who enjoyed a new legacy.
Honestly, it's probably why the film doesn't work for me. Yeah, it's self-aware, but it's more "aware" than it is "self" if you get me. For example, one of major plot points is Dale recreating himself with realistic CGI, and it's supposed to be a commentary that studios see 3D animation as more profitable over 2D animation. However, the joke kinda falls flat when you remember that every character from the original Rescue Rangers and even Peter Pan, is animated in 3D. It's just stylized to look like 2D, and it's very noticeable and looks pretty bad at points.
@@kingbash6466 I managed to look through that aspect, cause I know if given more of a budget that probably would’ve went through using more 2d animation rather sparingly using it for the film
@@BugsyFoga That still feels rather flimsy for an excuse. It would be like if Scream made a commentary on how sanitized horrors movies are compared to the older films, but then censors the previous movies' footage because "They needed to prevent people from being triggered by copious amounts of violence and sexual scenes." If it wasn't in their budget to do these things, then they probably either should have found alternatives or don't attempt to do something that large and expensive in the first place.
i just can't enjoy a film where Disneymakes fun of the kid whose life THEY ruined, the original Peter Pan actor Bobby Driscoll, it's just way too tasteless
I personally found the politics of arcane really engaging, it adds life to a very expansive show that for one already has a lot of ambition, but just showing the many things that show us as people destroy each other as a society. Destruction through a lack of understanding, selfishness and lack of unity to fix what could have never been broken again. Plus the politics help convey a social struggle that effects the two sisters. As a young writer this blew my mind. 10/10 for me.
I’m just here to state that RebelTaxi is one of my favorite YT channels and his work keeps getting better. Thank you for your effort and the hours on entertainment that’s gotten me through plenty of bad days.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur have only been around since 2016; I read the comics and quite a few liberties are taken for the cartoon, the Beyonder was invented for the show for example, I’m pleasantly surprised at how good it is despite the changes
I think you mean the beyonder was reinvented for the show, because he has been around since at least the 90s, if not longer. While I don't read much comics, first time I saw the beyonder was in the 90s Spiderman animated series, in an episode where the beyonder wanted to see who would win in a war between good and evil. He took multiple villains, put them on a peaceful planet and made Spiderman select and lead a team of heroes to fight them
Man this reminded me why i like watching Rebeltaxi! I feel like this is what he does best. The video game stuff is fine, but as someone who plays a lot of obscure old school games like the ones he talks about, i feel like the scripts are boring and don’t explain the games well enough sometimes. Maybe he’ll better at game reviews, but he really knows what he’s talking about with animation.
Since you mentioned many Netflix animations, allow me to add another recommendation to the pile: Junji Ito Maniac. This is a horror show anthology including normal supernatural horror (demons) to bizarre horror (people being hanged by floating balloons with people's faces) to psychotic humans physically abusing other people. Just sit back and enjoy the macabre
Funniest thing for me when I finished Chainsaw Man, after I hadn’t watched anime for a long time, I went to watch JJK And while I do like JJK, I realized the one thing I don’t miss from watching anime like that, the fucking flashbacks I get why since usually you aren’t binging them, but man when it just goes on and on or happens multiple times an episode…
I work at a library, and while we don't get a lot of book removal requests like other libraries do, because I'm in the deep south, we do get parents that will freak out when they see what their kid is checking out. Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is one of the most freaked-out-about ones I see. If a kid is checking it out, there's a solid 40% I'm gonna have an angry parent in a minute. I know nothing about the comic, never read it, but I always go, "Devil's just his name cause he's red. He's a regular dinosaur." I have no idea if it's a regular dinosaur
Hey Pan I hope you're doing well, I remember you were one of the first youtubers that I liked enough to actually make a youtube account so I could subscribe, and your content has remained consitently good the whole time. Thats hard to do. Life hasnt been too good recently, but I'll get by. Your videos (and a copius amount of that goody good) will see me through these hard times.
Oh my god-FINALLY somebody brought up Tear Along the dotted lines-I remember it being late at night when I first watched it, thinkin "hey, it's only six episodes, and it looks fun and silly. Gonna have a great time! :3". I was NOT expecting what it brought to the table. Jesus, yeah, the ending... The whole show does give a lot of good perspectives to mull over. Hope more people talk about it. Love to hear more people's in depth thoughts on it.
his criticism of Arcane is concrete proof of how social media ruined a generation. A few minutes of dialogue and these people already lose interest. MAy try adding some subway surfers gameplay or some "Family guy funny moments #89" to keep your attention
I would say that I believe that chainsaw man season 2 will have an even better story since the anime didn’t adapt the most tragic and insane chapters yet. I really liked the anime and it made me read the manga afterwards
Stephen Colbert is better suited to his live shows. Those are way funnier than whatever those cartoons are supposed to be. Nice to see you give more attention to “Sonic Prime”. That really is shaping up to be the best Sonic cartoon. Speaking of which, “Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers” might’ve gotten away with utilizing Ugly Sonic under parody laws, but according to the special effects studio staff, they actually repurposed the original realistic Sonic model that was scrapped in the live-action film. So that design wasn’t a complete waste after all.
Invert the premise of Tooning out and you might have something. Live action anchors reacting to animated versions of frankly insane news stories. Kinda like an animated WTFIWWY
You articulated my one criticism against Arcane PERFECTLY, what should be a B plot puts the main draw of the show in the backseat. I'm rooting for those science bois but I dunno if I keep having to rewind the because Im distracted by the animation or because I'm fatigued by all the tell don't show at roundtables.
Thanks for these, Pan. Without them, I wouldn't give a second thought to shows like Scissor Seven or or even hear of shows like Tear Along the Dotted Line (which I apparently already put on my watch list and forgot).
17:00 Funny thing is, Disney had a back up plan in case they could use Ugly Sonic. They were going to have Jar Jar Binks replace him. I've seen some of the original Story boards to back that story up. They were story boards that had Jar Jar in the scene instead of Ugly Sonic. Also i think the Peter Pan thing was just a coincidence. The idea of a child star growing up and turning evil was always the plan for the villain. From what i heard originally they were going to have a grown up Charlie Brown be the villain but getting the rights to use Charlie Brown ended being more of a head ace than Disney was expecting so they decided to use one of their characters instead.
