Metal is WAY better than pastic, and those look pretty tough! Only the most stubborn and cunning of branches will ever penetrate into the radiator, with those in place :)
I do have to admit to you mate, as you were guiding the lower bolt in I was willing it to drop. Not to be nasty, I just know what a great feeling it is :D
Cheers Adrian, am wishing I'd asked on the forums first though, as these are really only any good for stones from the front, apparently they not so good when you drop the bike and the rads can crush still :-(
They look beeefy. :) And look great on there. Cleaning shmeaning I'd rather ride my bike :P Also I'm massively lazy :D Can't wait to see you back out on it man! Haha at the end...that is a long way up :D
@@HippoDrones haha the camera angle made it look so tall. I was watching the kick stand before you even got up just thinking how bloody long it is 😁 haha I won't make the same commitment :P
@@TinManvlogger hahahahahaha.... soz :D Ummm, no lol, although I have got a comfort seat for it which should make it a little better. TBH though, when laning I am mostly standing up on the pegs so you only really notice the low comfort levels when on tarmac between the lanes! :-)
For sure, have since heard mixed reviews on them, but I think they will be brilliant at what they are designed for... to guard the front of the rads :-)
Nice looking bit of kit, Peter. I reckon there's be a fair few stones and small rocks get thrown in there with the high mud-guard set up. I wonder if many people have to go out and buy an additional ratchet-wrench extension to fit it?? You do make that bike look tall... must be the camera angle 🤔 Nice one mate, be safe.
I possibly should have read up more on them, they are great as guards, but it was braces I actually wanted, some have said these can still allow the rads to crush, but others have said they can do both... time will tell I guess :-) Although the high mudguard looks cool, I kinda miss the quirky look of the low one on my previous Alp 4.0 :D Hahaha... I bet a few did mate! :D hahaha I think I'd make a Grom look tall! :D hahahahaha You too David :-)
That bike looks quite tall next to you wow didn't think they were that tall. I went to look at a Husqvarna 701 once and sat on it, I'm 6'3 and even they feel quite tall.
Just had some feedback about the guards on a Beta page, they say they are not great, which kinda sucks. Better than no protection I guess. Aye, 15 hours dirt riding is fine... my trouble is the amount of road riding I have to do to get to the lanes, poss 50:50 currently, if not 60:40 road:dirt
@@thedonnybrookghost8394 Aye absolutely, but until I stack and do/don't crush my radiators, I only can go by the advice from folk who have already crushed radiators with these fitted! :D TBH, I am not doing hard enduro, I'm just doing some muddy lanes, so I think I'll be fine, but I vey much don't want to end up stranded in the middle of nowhere with a busted radiator! :D
@@HippoDrones My Husaberg has 15 hour oil drops too, but living right next to trails now, there's no need for the road stuff - which is nice. Rad guards look nice! Thinking about one for the big bikes...
@@BlueMarbleRider I wish I had your back garden BMR, @Clayton Bessell if you've not checked out his channel, you really should, BMR has awesome riding on his doorstep like you! :-)
Appreciate the Beta videos! I ordered a 2021 Beta 390 RR-S and am expecting delivey 1st week of November. My accessory list is getting large and expensive, trying to narrow it down a bit. These radiator guards were highly recommended by the dealer but I am wondering how nessacary they really are. I am not so worried about a rock hitting the radiators from the front, I am more concerned of side impact when I inevitably fall! Do you feel that there is risk to the stock setup from side impacts? Also, are you glad you bought these now that you had them for a bit?
Ahh awesome, I had hoped to have more this year, but covid an all that rubbish. I hope you love your bike as much as I do mine, cracking fun thing! :D From what folk have said, these guards are more from stone and rocks getting thrown into them than side braces, although I crashed the bike hard on it's left side on the road and the guard/radiator survived with no issues, but you could get possibly stronger braces if you are less concerned with front protection. I def advise protecting the radiators with something, as busting them on a trail will end your day.
Yeah, I got these for my 2022 RR-S and I don't know what to do with the horn, it won't seem to fit. Think I already bent my radiator a little, it doesn't fit that easily
I actually am fine with mowing, it is my other neighbour who likes us all to listen to her choice of music that is ruining my inner peace currently. If she is in her garden, I can't record anything unless I do a voice over and mute the main audio as I'll get copy-write strikes coz of her music. I'm trying to be calm about it while we are in lockdown as she has a couple of kids and it must be hard for her, but once it is all over, if she continues with it I;m gonna have to say somit as I'll not be able to wait for her to go out etc as my free time will be limited due to working.
@@HippoDrones I think maybe a quiet polite word maybe in order. Some folks don't realise they are being anti social. Must happen loads over the lockdown, great weather, people are in their gardens.
Looks like a solid bit of kit 👍 I’m currently entertaining the idea of getting an enduro/off road bike, what’s the maintenance like on these? Is it a lot of oil changes and valve work?
Unfortunately, from what a few folk have said, these weren't the best idea, I should have waited a couple of weeks and got a different brand who has developed a far stronger solution to more damage. Still, never mind :-) This Beta will need an oil change every 15hrs as well as valve checks periodically and top end inspections at a later point. They are a lot more work than a true dualsport, and I would 100% recommend the Beta Alp 4.0 I had previously, or the Honda CRF250 as both are great dualsports. Out the box the Alp 4.0 is a better offroad bike, but the CRF is a lot comfier for the road bit and some may say looks nicer, but that is subjective and I loved my little Alp :D both bikes have low maintenance engines. I have to say, getting a dirtybike is one of the best biking decisions I've made, they are so much fun all year round and will very much improve your road riding too! :-)
Hippo-Drones Thats annoying but I’m sure they’ll do a great job regardless. Thanks for your advice it’s certainly helpful, it’s a different world of biking but one that people seem to love so I’ll keep researching! Cheers 👍
Sadly, the side impact protection does not stand up, since sharing this vid several folk have told me they have still crushed their rads with the BPD guard fitted! :-(
how has it held up at this point? I installed enduro engineering braces on my 2022 390, and already bent the right side slightly.. might want to swap over to these.
I've had no issues at all... but I only trail ride, no hard enduro stuff. I think since fitting them I have only dropped the bike a handful of times. Once was on the road though where it went down hard in the wet, only damage was to the handguard, and my wrist.
Although restrictions have been lifted a little, I am still in 2 minds about trail riding as we are not allowed to go out in groups (not that many road riders seem to be taking that on board) and although I could ride by myself, I am far more likely to fall off in the dirt and hurt myself than I am on the road, so currently it doesn't sit right in my head to go green laning just yet. I also still have some stuff I want to do to it, so am in no hurry to get this one out just yet.... although I would bloomin love to do so! :-)
@@matthewcoleman8267 Am not laning until I feel it safe and responsible to do so mate. I very much want to go, I very much want to ride my new bike, but I currently do not think it the best idea. If others want to, then go for it, their choice. But currently, this is mine! :-)
Hi good little video .Looked like you got a bit worried there about how you were going to bolt them on ,until you spotted the clearance holes . What other bits are you going to have done ? Do you think you will lower it ? My bike was a bit too tall for me ,I had it lowered & it makes all the difference being able to dab when needed & keep upright instead of bailing out .
Hi Joe, I have the first slot available once they open at HM Racing to get it lowered and set up for my rona belly :D I may get a fan kit, I may also bin these guards as a lot of folk have said the rads can still crush from the sides which is really something I didn't want to hear after buying them, but I should have realised, as they are described as guards rather than braces. So not a fault with the product, it just isn't what I was after getting, my fault.
@@joedunne1134 Oh interesting, I thought the Fantics were taller, but yours has a lower seat than my Beta... mine is 940mm, yours is 915mm.... Getting mine lowered by an inch, might go 2" if possible
I have these guards fitted to my 2020 390 rr. Did you struggle to fit the plastics after fitting the guards? My middle bit, where the both sides meet at the top don’t seem to line up, infact they are miles out?
Cheers dude. It is not a great roadbike, mainly due to the tyres and servicing requirements, but it is fine for travelling between the lanes. Some of the lanes I ride are around an hour away, that is about the max I'd want to road ride to get somewhere to ride it in it's natural habitat... dirt. I have only ridden it twice so far, so still running it in, but it should manage to hold 60mph-70mph... but it won't be nice doing that on tarmac. If you want to run one primarily on tarmac, I'd suggest the 480 and fit supermoto wheels/brakes/suspension and change the gearing to make it bettar at higher speeds, a 480 should be able to do 110mph+ with the right gearing!
@@HippoDrones ay np! alright cool man yeah i understand with the maintence and tires! My closest offroad area is also 1 hour and will be the max aswell and hell yea its true Home is in the dirt👌😎yea the 480 nicer on road but pretty heavier than the 390 i can Imagine. Cheers mate🙏👌😎
Aye, I am def looking forward to sitting on it with my head below the clouds! :D It is getting a 1" drop, not a huge amount but will make it a lot easier for me when I need to dab a toe! :-)
@@HippoDrones I've been an auto tech for 44yrs, no cooling fan on a trails bike a big no no! May get away with it racing, short maintenance intervals and cools down in-between heats but in the woods slow speeds the head temp must go through the roof! Was about to purchase a 390rr that was 5yrs old just found out no cooling fan, I'm going to pass! Thks for quick response! Might as well be air cooled would be better.
🤣.. Hippo Belly. From the sound of the tools hitting the guard, they sound pretty dang beefy. Guess that’s why they are called bulletproof. When you can get out, if you could do an update as to if the bike is running hotter, or no change. That would be cool. But i think YOU may be running hotter than the bike when you finally get out🤣😂. See ya on the next one bud.
