The price for weigth is no to bad, the thing here is the exclusivity of the minifigs. If the minifigs remind exclusively the price grow up and this set will be a very good investment, but if the minifigs loose the exclusivity this set will be a very bad investment.
I could see someone taking that miniature Cloud City on the top of the play set and rounding it off on the bottom and adding a spire on the bottom to make a full mini Cloud City
I bought it because I am a huge Star Wars fan, and live in Canada where the markup makes it cheaper than in the states. Also getting it means I don't need to buy an expensive UCS Millennium Falcon to get the Empire Strikes Back Han Solo. With the high amount of minifigures, exclusives, and great playability, it would look great, and I would play with it as much as with my 2016 Death Star. It also is not the most expensive Star Wars set, and not too big which is good since I don't have much space in my house. But I had to do it with double VIP points, since that is the best opportunity atm, and I wanted that Han Solo Mudtrooper. Generally, I would have probably waited till end of retirement, and hope there is a sale. But I had to keep my eyes on Amazon and Walmart all the time, otherwise I would easily miss the opportunity.
Great Review! I love the movie accurate slide show. Makes me imagine a 3 level model, with the top being a micro scale with the outer parameter being the mini fig rooms. the hollow center could have the i am your father scene.
Lot of weird comments about pricing. It released for $350 USD for 2812 pieces, now going by raw piece count it seemed overpriced. However if you consider the actual number of large pieces, special pieces and variety of colors used, along with the 10% Star Wars tax, it made perfect sense and was reasonable. Comments like “it doesn’t look good, I can’t hang it”…. 😅. It’s a play-set folks not a display set. All this set needed was about 250 or so finishing parts to round it out. As of this writing it now goes for about $750 USD on EBay new and sealed. $350 was a steal in comparison.
Why is it always compared to all the other ucs display sets like its so ugly bla bla bla? It is not intendet to be a display set and it isnt its about the figs the cloud car and the really well detaild scenes. It should be compared to the extremely costly original cloud city. The original also was "ugly" as a display set but it was made as a playset and now you have a bigger better more detailed version with better and way more minifigs and even 2 ships of one of the highest rated and priced lego set. How can this be a bad set this only can go up in price theres no way that it goes down after retirement.
alex 1 Sets don’t go up and down. Sets are sold at various prices however a group of people think they can sell something more than they got it for. But yea the set was intended for play much like the Death Star and the assault on hoth.
You technically could have used the Midi Scale Millennium Falcon for the landing platform. It doesn’t hold minifigs but I would imagine it would have fit on the landing platform a lot better
I really do not like this set. It is hard to desplay on a shelf, it looks rather ugly and the value is awful compared to something like the UCS Hogwarts which has more than twice the peces but costs a little more. But I think you did a great review like always.
kapliger Actually yes, because the mark up is only $50 CAD for $350 USD set. This means they didn't increase the mark up, and even after HST, you will be paying less for in Canada ($310 USD), then you would in the states ($350 USD). I recommend buying it since it supports your local lego store, and it will be very sought after once it retires. Compared that to the Hogwarts castle where there is a $100 CAD for a $400 USD set. This means they add $100 CAD only for a $50 USD set.
@@501clonetrooper 1. I won't support a bad set for 310$. 2. I don't like it, so why should I buy? 3. It's NOT gonna be in demand once it retires, trust me. 350$ is an awful price, people won't pay abovd retail after retirement.
kapliger The set is already selling extremely well, so it will do well on the after market. Look at all the review channels who have already bought it well before double VIP. People buy sets because it is worth it. It also the only cloud city set for 15 Years. 15 YEARS. It has a lot of exclusive minifigures and updated minifigures, so LEGO is unlikely to just reissue it with updated figures like they did with the death star. Unlike other UCS's like the Sandcrawler or Falcon, you cannot just make a smaller version of the set. It just cannot happen. The Empire Strikes Back is widely considered the best MOVIE OF ALL TIME. You think a set that has all the scenes from the second half of that movie won't be in demand. The one from 2003 had costed like over $2000 on the after market. Now you can get a significantly better one, for only $400. If you want it cheaper just buy it from Canada, or wait till its close to retirement. Assault on Hoth is already reaching 400 just because of how many good figures and a great playset it was. This set will do the same and better.
