Betrayal syndrome is a term coined Jennifer Freyd who discussed a trauma in which an individual is betrayed by someone the individual trusts and relies on.
It is not a diagnosis, clinical term, or medical term but rather describes a series of behaviors that may occur after an individual has been betrayed or experienced deception -- and may have been betrayed multiple times and for extended periods of time.
Humans tend to struggle with the concept of deception because it isn't something easy to spot -- especially when that deceptive person is a family member.
In this video, I introduce the concept of betrayal syndrome and discuss the identification of deception in your life.
