BETRAYING A FANDOM: The Story Of The Artemis Fowl Movie 

Me and my friend made a bingo tables for the horrible decisions we were expecting/fearing this movie would make - my friend got a bingo after 15 minutes.

Riordan and the Eragon write both LOATHE the adaptations. I'm so disappointed to hear Eoin stands behind this one. :(

in absolute good faith, imagine we're coworkers and we are trying to improve and streamline our presentation: Im a 35 yo w ADHD, diagnosed 19 yrs ago. content consumption is always, always a function of focus for me. I especially get distracted w captions cz my original language is from right to left and when I see English captions I freeze right in the middle. it takes me a few scenes to orient myself, no matter how often I use captions, and I use em a lot since I watch things in many languages. I'm also a science researcher, and finding patterns is my thing. here's what I've found so far, from both myself, and my own personal survey over the yrs from both bilingual and multilingual ppl, especially those w both left and right directions, and/or those who have ADHD: any text that's more whimsical than Arial is v v v distracting and it pulls you outa the zone of the content (your red captions are comic sans, right?). while ppl can find serif fonts a lil harsh, fonts that are as structured as serifs, but are not serifs, fair v well. also, the caption colours can be v distracting, cz for someone like me that's an extra piece of data my brain has to analyze "oOoOO pretty red!" and my focus is shot. w ADHD you wanna minimize embellishments and traditional triggers like colours, excessive and convoluted shapes, needlessly fantastical site navigations... now that'd be absurd and frankly disturbing to expect all content, regardless of context, to cater to those w ADHD. however, content that's aimed at learning, teaching, discussing, analyzing, essentially anything that requires analytics and stimuli (data/information) processing would benefit immensely if it's made w ADHD in mind. I love RU-vid edits, especially the memes generated by the creator themselves, like yours. since you use vibrant graphics, and engaging edits it's hard to not get overwhelmed by the red whimsical captions. black on white and white on black are the most neutral caption colour combo because they are the template of the internet itself. you don't have to stop mid watch to analyze the white or black text cz you see it everyday on the net. if anything, try it one time and see if it gets more streamlined or not. as a bio scientist researcher presentations and reports are second to conducting the experiments themselves. we even take classes on how to present scientific papers and get critiqued on our PPT templates, no lie. so I come from a place of experience and absolute sincerity. as I said before I enjoy your stuff as much as I enjoy Sarah's. my criticism is not to embarrass you or be pt of contention. if RU-vid had a msg'n system I'd privately msg you. pls don't be offended or upset. that defeats the purpose of my comment. so if it bothers you pls delete it. it's not worth it if it comes off as douchy. (also the more centered the caption the better. because captions are generally presented in the center almost universally, it's not innate to look for them if they're put to the left or the right. I swear I'm writing all this to explain what real ADHD feels like. the Gabbie H.'s of the world don't have ADHD. they're manic and have narcissistic personality disorder, which is not the same as narcissism. can you tell I'm exhausted when ppl use biological lexicons like they're internet slangs.)

I watched the movie and was blown away first by how bad and unfaithful it was, and then by how faithful Mulch Diggums is. Aside from the whole oversized dwarf thing, they kept all the weird dwarf anatomy, and even had that scene of him unhinging his jaw, unflapping his pants, and spewing dirt at the camera. It's the one scene where I can really feel Colfer's influence, you know he fought tooth and nail to keep that scene in, he fucking loves Mulch Diggums.

I always had this dumb theory that the reason “Don’t call him Butler” was a thing in the movie was because they didn’t want to refer to their main black character purely as a servant title.

I probably never told you that I met Eoin Colfer and got to hang out with him/chat with him for an afternoon in Houston several years ago.

I read the books when I was like 10(?) and I absolutely love them They were what introduced me to RU-vid with all the fanvideos and music videos etc. When I heard there’d be a movie I was excited (even though I was never really deeeep in the fandom) The scene that was later deleted was really well made too! I saw the movie (after forgetting about it for the last few years) when I saw it on Disney +. It‘s been like 10 years since I read the books and I only vaguely remembered them while watching the movie. Even though I didn’t remember the books that well I could still notice a lot of mistakes 😅 Overall I think the movie is ok (if you ignore it‘s based on the books and see it as something completely separate) But I‘ve started on the books again and I‘ve noticed how bad the movie actually is 😅 It‘s totally different (and not in a good way) and really disappointing that they took out the one good scene :(

They were scared to present Artemis Fowl as an anti-hero.
