"She is an acquired taste" lolz! 😄 I recorded this episode of 20/20. There was also a segment of AIDS with Geraldo Rivera reporting. It was heartbreaking.
I watched a clip of Mark Rydell discussing working with Bette on The Rose, and Mr. Russo. I left a comment that I'd like to hear Bette's take, and here it is...sort of. And I have read and heard many comments over the years about Mr. Russo, and I have to say, none of them ever captured that big teddy bear smile with the warm eyes, who obviously here, still cared for Bette very much. And as for Ms. M at 13;38....must be right before she met Martin....I'm just guessing. ;-D
I'm not a big fan of Bette Midler , But this woman did spend a lot of time with me . asking me very personal question and asking me " Are you Gay ? And do you like kids and do you wanna get married ? Along with other things ? She even asked if she can sit next to me ..Hey Bette Fans I'm not making this up . This really happened to me ... So she pulls up a chair sitting very close to me , rubbing her legs and then her feet saying oh my feet are so sore " so then she takes off her shoes rubbing her feet ...oh my did I really have a chance to be with Bette Midler ? Did she want us to get married someday ? She was so nice to me , we talked like we were old friends .. Then I had to screw everything up between us ....she Was 34 And I was 22 . I really miss talking to her ...I wish we could talk again . But like she said I never look back ...when we first met she smiled at me and said shaking my hand . Hi I'm Bette " I just Bought a house ....
I have a very strong feeling that she rejected you, but made you feel that you were rejecting her. It also sounds like she helped you clarify your sexuality in your own mind.
This interview was poorly edited. It’s more of a PR piece for Bette’s former manager Aaron Russo than it is for Bette. He dominates the interview “how I used my marketing genius to make Better Midler a star”. She plays second banana here. I have no doubt he was a good manager, but I understand why she fired him.
