Love the View during this time. They actually did real interviews and took their time. Today they would sit Midler at the main table, talk 5 seconds about her current projects, then all the women would overtalk her and bombard her with political questions. Bette is so classy. Would never cast Midler as Jaqueline Susann. I adored Jackie Susann. She was a good friend of Doris Day. Susann was part of a round table of women I interviewed in the late Sixties for `Pageant` magazine..`Can Black and White Women Ever Get Along?` Others included Flo Kennedy, Betty Friedan, Judith Viorst and one or two more. But Susann was marvelous. Smart and stunning and funny and pithy. Very New York! Midler is out-classed but then that`s show biz! Susann was ruthless in capitulating to the firing of Judy Garland on `Valley of the Dolls` so perhaps it`s pay-back time.
