It’s bizarre really, Seeing Gus this paranoid. It humanizes him, and it shows just how big of a threat Lalo is to scare Gus like this.

This makes Walt's "get me in a room with him" even more funny. He has absolutely no idea about the man he's talking about.

This scene compliments Gus in Breaking Bad. Walt's planted a bomb on Gus's car at the hospital, and Jesse tells Gus he thinks someone poisoned Brock. Gus see's this a red flag and when going back to his car, stops, takes a look from the parking complex, and decides not to get in his car, walking off. He's always been very meticulous and over-cautious.

For those wondering, this is Gu's safe house (is next to his main one), where he set his surveillance and defense team against Lalo. The random people that "don't notice him" are a decoy couple, hired by him to keep appearances and to not rise suspicion (they probably were ordered to act as if a security team isn't there). Because of the proximity of those houses, that tunnel must've been easy to dig unlike the lab which required planning for both the drainage/water system and ventilation system.

The way he pauses and looks at the gun, really makes you realise the weight and cost of being a criminal kingpin. You see this look of wanting to take it off and never have to wear it again. But he realises he can never take it off, just like he can never escape this criminal life now as he sighs and puts it back around his ankle.

That's how you know Lalo is more than a match for Gus when the unflappable Gus is acting weird Even Mike has no idea where Lalo is... and that line probably ramped up Gus' paranoia even more

Gus is like a total James Bond villain with his underground laboratory & secret passageways. The man is legit.

I love just how much of a threat Lalo is to Gus to the point where Gus would be willing to pool almost all of his intel networks just to keep updates on his whereabout's. Hector may have definitely been the biggest thorn in Gus's side and his fuel of inner rage, but Lalo is like the boogeyman he represent's the biggest threat nigh bar-none.

It's funny how Eladio can't scare him but just the thought of Lalo being alive does.

Walt getting told to go home during Thirty Eight Snub makes so much sense

Seeing this really makes you realize just how dumb Walter's original "get me in a room with him and I'll do the rest" plan was. It was enough for Walter to think he would best Gus simply by smugging a gun inside, completely ignoring the fact that Gus 1) could be wearing a vest; 2) could be carrying a gun of his own. Gus would have probably smoked Walter if it came to a direct confrontation, so Walter was lucky that Mike declined this particular proposal.

I just listened to the insider podcast and they said the guy who passes Gus in the tunnel is his double. So I guess the double walks around inside his house while the real Gus is next door.

"Then where is he?" Good point Mike, all this waiting and anticipating for lalo to show up is driving me crazy!

I’ve seen a lot of people comment on how Gus wears a clip on tie, mostly saying it’s so he can’t get strangled. Personally, and I may be over thinking this, I think it’s to show that his working uniform is fake and easy to take off. Since he wears real ties when he does his real job.

I love the part where Gus is adjusting his gun. In that entire scene you can see how much he *hates* the thought of carrying it. It detests him. It's not comfortable on him because he feels uncomfortable. He considers not carrying it for now. But then he decides it's a necessary action for him to feel fully in control.

Could you imagine if Nacho was part of Gus's crew? Probably could have taken down Lalo seeing as how Nacho crippled Hector and planned Tuco's arrest.

Gus being paranoid of lalo reminds me of how Walt was during season 4 of breaking bad.

A detail I just noticed: as he’s walking thru the tunnel his decoy passes him going the other way, so the guy must always be ready to take his place

Despite being a drug lord, Gus being strapped is weirdly unexpected. He's someone who's always in control and usually just needs his dozen henchmen to do his dirty work. But because Lalo is so unpredictable, he has to be ready in the event that no one is there to protect him.

Love that reflection once he's taken the weight of the gun off his person. It's a literal reminder of the life he's chosen, and his only chance to be introspective is when it's off him. Great direction by Rhea Seehorn

Despite his paranoia, we know Gus will win in the end. In Breaking Bad, the sequel, we know that Gus has already ended the Salamanca bloodline, hence we know that Gus will find a way to erase Lalo, whether on his own terms or others. This scene makes Gus seem even more intimidating to me than it is supposed to make Lalo seem and he already proved himself to be in Breaking Bad.

I absolutely LOVE Mike's dig at Gus... "He's not just there to make french fries." 😂 😎 Mike kept Gus alive and even the writers admit he never would've let Gus walk into the trap like Tyrus did.

The more Gus shows his paranoia, the more we realize how one hubris/exception from this man of perfection brought is demise, with the help of that one damn lucky chem teacher.

It always bugged me when Gus walked away from Walts planted car bomb. BCS has really cleared this up and made that plausable. When Gus is on DEFCON 2 alert - You basically won’t be able to kill him.

Better Call Saul truly makes you really realize how oblivious and out of touch Walter and Jesse were. They had absolutely no idea of the true scale of the world they ended up in, and would eventually pummel to the ground.

If Mike (of all people) doesn't know where Lalo is, that's something to be scared of. I don't believe Gus was this scared of Walt, as Walt wasn't in hiding; that is until Walt began making attempts at Gus's life. Whatever plan Lalo is scheming, I'm relatively confident that the cousins will be part of it. Lalo knows that he has the upper hand now, as I believe most people assume he's dead. However, his next move will still need to be carefully planned; he has to assume that Gus and Mike aren't 100% certain of his death and are still looking for him.

I genuinely believe after his friend died at the hands of the cartel its the one thing that kept gus going with his life. It became the one thing that got him up in the morning till the moment he went to sleep. Going through this same tedious routine. Because he dosent seem to have a genuine goal doing the things he does whether its running a sophisticated meth operation or Los pollos hermanos. There's no family, partner or children to provide for even though he's exceedingly wealthy. No other outstanding goals. I believe he simply lived at that point to destroy the entire cartel and especially make Don Hector suffer. It kept him perfectly ironing his shirts to scrubbing those grills to slitting people's throats with box cutters. People's lifestyles and habits often are moulded by the things that have happed to them.

Nobody ever sleeps peacefully in the world of crime

This scene is basically the embodiment of “Heavy is the head that wears the crown."

Watching Mike be a put-upon middle manager is the funniest thing this series has ever done.

Gus has pretty high standards for a fast food restaurant owner aka junk food seller.

The score here is amazing. Something about it just feel so unsettling and ominous, like something is coming but you don't know what. Turns a scene of a man doing pretty boring stuff on paper into a head scratcher. Love it.

Paranoia is often portrayed as a flaw in a character or person, when in reality its basically a superpower that ensures you are always prepared for any scenario. There were several deadly incidents Gus slipped away from that nobody else would've gotten out of if they weren't as paranoid as Gus, except of course the last one.

It's awesome how Better Call Saul shows a bit more of the world. The cartel's vault disguised as a car warehouse of sorts, Gus' safe house. Walt is lucky to have not been caught up in that chaos.

It's a quiet life, a daily routine led by only the sheer determination of staying organized, even if one never speaks a single word one can hear the silent screams from within.....

My favourite character, I love Gus, I felt bad about his end, but Im glad to see him again in BCS.

This whole sequence does so much work to humanise Gus. Seeing his paranoia, his exasperation at having to constantly look over his shoulder, really sells that the guy was human at the end of the day.

I pretty much know how season 6 is going. Im not mad at all i keep seeing these clips and shorts popping up like crazy. Just finished season 5 and watched the first episode of season 6 earlier this morning.

I always what drew Gus to this lifestyle. He’s an incredibly disciplined and tactful man. He’d make his way real high up in any corporate structure. I could see him learning multiple languages and at least a graduate degree. Maybe he wouldn’t make it to the top tier of a multinational. But with this level of discipline, he’d for sure hit the national levels. This is the kind of corporate manager that could catch small details that others could not, and after several years of doing that, you’re making the top good decisions and putting good eyes on the middle level.

Lalo was like some kind of Boogeyman horror movie villain in the first half of Season 6. Had all the main characters trembling just from the possibility that he survived that big shootout.

I like that he uses a clip on tie. Great detail to show he doesn’t take unnecessary risk. A traditional tie is a risk, making it easy to choke you.

still love how the decoy couple have a bunch of puzzles and games to keep them occupied. surprisingly humanizing and pleasant moment for the goons that usually get little or none, i.e shitty topknot guy, tyrus.

Gotta give Gustavo credit for preparation, A tunnel from one house to another, and a on call response team that is dedication for being a few moves ahead of any threats.

I miss the series

I just realized that the guy walking in the tunnel is Gus's body double. He's wearing the same clothes as Gus, I imagine his role is to walk around the decoy house facing away from the windows so that it appears Gus hasn't left the house.

its very interesting that gus with all the busy activity of his other empire, still find time to review chicken restaurant staff. its as if pollo business is as important as his empire. i really want a prequel of how hollos hermanos is build. im sure we also get to see the birth of gus as well which is what im dying to see

I always thought the Box Cutter moment was a jump the shark moment for Gus, it never made sense that he would do something that extreme. NOW it makes sense. Lalo broke him.

You know this could be why he did Salamonga himself knowing that Lalo hit went wrong. Though I think that was more the personal wanting revenge part of it. But he clearly didn’t learn from Scarface. You let someone else shoot the man. A death is a death.

Imagine spending this much time building a secret tunnel then leaving the door open.

I just realized, Gus may have started into all of this out of a business opportunity, out of fun to have with his boyfriend back then... but ever since the incident at Don Eladios place, he only kept on going for the revenge against all of them... you never see him do it for a family, nor for the money to live it up... all just power and ultimately revenge.

I love when Gus “transforms”; in this and a few times in Breaking Bad, we see him sort of “shed” his Fast Food Manager by removing his simple business tie and bland cream colored shirt, only to put on darker tones, and sharper fit clothing. Literally going from Businessman to gangster.

We not gon talk about this fire ass soundtrack BCS has? Fine.
