Better EV than BYD Atto 3? Hyundai Kona Electric 2024 review: Premium Extended Range | family test

The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric has stepped up its game with its second-generation model, which has brought a space-age exterior design to the fully electric small SUV. As such, it stands out from the crowd, which includes competitors like the BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV and Kia Niro EV.
That said, the new Kona Electric brings a very familiar EV powertrain to the table. The single front-mounted electric motor remains, as does its power output of 150kW. However, maximum torque falls from 395Nm to 255Nm to improve efficiency and, therefore, driving range, which is now up to 484km.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar and her family of three spend a week living with the Kona Electric's Premium Extended Range flagship to find out just how well it measures up against the competition from a family buyer's point of view.

Far out, only if Hyundai had the brains to make an Excel hatchback model with styling features and little details and quirks like this got maybe with a few different body lines, i reckon it would be awesome to see

You'd have to be insane to buy this over a Model Y at 13k cheaper. Model Y better in every way too.

Cars guide has just become an advertising agency for EV's....... particularly Chinese EV's. By the time that driverless EV computer's on wheels are the majority of the carpark, I'll no longer be driving. Their dashboards have what's effectively a giant mobile phone in the middle of them. We all love our mobile phone and laptops........but do our cars really need them? I'm not interested in them, and will NEVER buy them!

Range is inadequate, service costs are exceptionally high, making this car expensive to buy and use. It looks well designed, comfortable and has good storage capacity. For the money I think you could do better, a base Tesla Model Y won’t sting you for service costs so would perhaps be a better option. An excellent review that spoke to the positives and negatives. Thank you.😊

13K costlier than Tesla Model Y, but still worse than Model Y in almost all aspects! Hyundai really need to review the Kona Electric pricing.

I tested a Tesla Model 3 a month ago, I had a radiation detector device in my hand and there was a high dose of radiation in the vehicle. These vehicles must be insulated with lead. Including my own hybrid Corolla vehicle, a high dose of radiation was detected after 60 km. I think this is a very dangerous sign of cancer for people.
