What I find HILARIOUS, and also well deserved, is the fact that Betty, Bea and Rue were all nominated for best lead actress in 86, 87, and 88, and they won one time each!!
It was a damn good show. I watched it every night before going to bed. Which in retrospect, might have been a little odd for a teenage boy. But I regret nothing.
@@chaoscrysay8236 lead vs. supporting acting is decided by how many words you speak and how much screen time you have. It didn't seem like it, but Estelle was not eligible for lead because she had less lines than the others.
Sophia was supposed to be a minor character, because of Estelle's great talent, she became a larger character than originally planned. I don't think categorizing her as a supporting actor was in any way demeaning to her contribution to the show.
@@ThePhanttasm Excuse me don't descriminate Estelle. She didn't even know she had lewy body until the 2000's. Don't be rude to Estelle's legacy. She was a great actress and she deserved that emmy.
Estelle Getty was the only one of Betty White's co-stars that looked genuinely happy for her - lol. Maybe because they weren't in competition w/each other
Estelle Getty was deserving of a nomination, too. Those five nominees plus Estelle far eclipse most of the future winners since that year, 34 years ago!
The fact that she was surprised she won shows how much she appreciates and respects all the talented actors in the room. What a humble and beautiful human being she was ❤
David Hyde Pierce from Frasier was the same way every time! He was nominated all 11 years and won four and he acted as if he was absolutely shocked anybody would choose him. Such humility is extremely rare anywhere but especially in Hollywood.
@2025 great episode " but we're heads, we're heads!" 😂😂 it was so touching when her daughter finally realized how much Blanche, Dorothy and Sophia loved Rose💓💓💓💓
She was so appealing to everyone because she's so eloquent and wholesome, gets a little cheeky, then goes back to wholesome. I love that she made it a point to let everyone know that it wasn't _her_ award but it was _their_ award. I miss her so much ❤️
I freakin shed tears. Rip to the greatest tv shows ever.. 2019 tv is literally trash. Thank goodness for classic tv. I miss Mel’s place. One day at a time. Oh the list goes on..
COSBY and GOLDEN GIRLS were both mega hit sitcoms, often in the top ten in the ratings. In fact, COSBY was bigger, since it was the #1 show for 5 straight years.
i like to watch videos Whoa! Who did Phylicia Rashād rape? I don’t think you should belittle her work based on her costar. I can’t believe this needs to be stated. 😳
I just love how she acknowledges her cast mates like there is really no I in team. She is the best. Rose is my favorite. Last standing golden girl. She had a heart of gold fr.
I’m so sad that you’re not with us here anymore, but I can only imagine the celebration going on in Heaven now that the Golden Girls are all together again. RIP Betty. 🌹
That's because every decade the world deteriorates and so do people. There is no more moderation, filter or modesty. Its bunch of selfish, self centered, butthurt bastards with loud mics.
By class you mean Kirstie Alley the cocaine addict? Phylicia Rashad the Cosby defender? David Lettermen the adulterer? Which recent Best Actress in a comedy winner do think has no class?
@@kevinwilson3609 yup. Even with everything you just mentioned those stars were stars. Entertainers of today do not deserve to be part of that elite club. Today's entertainers don't know how to behave in public. Completely uncouth.
Both Betty and Bea were powerful forces like fire and water. Both were beautiful but with different life forces. Personally, I think it fitting Betty won the first Emmy. After all, Bea already had her own Emmy from Maude.
Well, this is how it turned out. Both were great in their roles and they both won when they were meant to win. Personally, I liked the way Bea had evolved throughout the show.
Betty said in her book that she felt awkward after winning the first Emmy, and that Estelle was the only cast member to congratulate her and make a fuss of her afterwards. You can tell from this video that Estelle was genuinely pleased, whereas Bea and Rue both look like they’re smiling through gritted teeth.
She's just the most lovable and that's why she won first. Rue is next most lovable, and she won second. Bea won third but they are all equally talented.
Remember when awards speeches used to be iconic? What a speech, Betty looked utterly shocked that she won ❤❤ It’s crazy how they owned the Emmys for a few years 🌟
What a year for tv entertainment. All these actresses had amazing stories thst year. Any one of them winning we wouldnt have blamed them. Some years idk how the voters can choose.
Been watching s01 right now and it's just a mix of sadness cos all 4 sweet ladies are gone now, and happiness as all 4 are just a huge riot to watch. They will forever be remembered with a smile.
I hope at some point they all won an award for the show. Because each of those four women is deserving. To this day GG's remains to be one of my favourite shows ever. It's perfectly cast and excuse the pun, but it never gets old.
I am a fierce fan of The Golden Girls, and long live their much-deserved legacy...but Phylicia Rashad's performance in that montage snatched my wig in the best way possible. Her delivery was everything. LOL
Betty had this on going schtick where shed start to say something rude/crude/sexual and then cut it off as if it was an accident. It's the same style throughout the decades and it never gets old haha
