I got my 900 Pro X today, superb sound, and not as open as I thought, I would say that they are a bit in between closed and wide open, the base is tight and clear, the stage is fantastic for the price, and the comfort, my God. ... they are the most comfortable headphones I have ever wear, it's like having soft pillows over my ears, it was a long time ago I was so happy with a purchase.

hi Kent - you've nailed it...and the comfort is sooo hard to explain until you put a pair on isn't it. Just heavenly!

Excellent review David. Pleasant to follow. I finally got a chance to demo these at a music store and concur with your findings when comparing to the 990s. They are brighter than the 990s, yes, but not irritating so, like some headphones can be. Furthermore, I am pleased with the projection of the vocal range with this frequency response tuning. My 990's were mothballed some time ago, as I wasn't particularly fond of their sound signature, but not so with the 900's. These will be added to my open backed closet, which include Sennheiser 650's, Shure 1840's and AKG 712's. I think we're entering a golden age of headphone design. Companies are really stepping up their game. I like the fact that these new Beyerdynamic products retain their manufacturing home in Germany. It makes for a slightly more expensive product, but I find comfort in that. I'm glad to pay the premium for that feature. Cheers

....re the golden age, yes, I think you are quite right. Oddly, I wonder if the pandemic may have had something to do with that. Generally, folks started to pick up headphones more be it just for video calls or, home-bound producers and home enthusiasts who now had the time to create and in turn demand more from there cans. Whatever, the amount of great headphones around now is a total joy to me and across budget too.

I kind of discovered Beyerdynamic headphones a while ago with the MMX300 headset, which I got for gaming sessions and talks with friends. After I really loved the MMX300, I got the DT770, because they're quite affordable and I wanted another decent set of non-headset headphones. About a month ago I eventually got the DT900 Pro X and I am using them alongside the MMX300 and DT770. I love that their cable is removable and I am really enjoying their audio quality a lot. I am not an audio professional, but I enjoy listening to music, movies and games. I really wish I discovered Beyerdynamic a lot earlier, because I actually wasted a lot of money on bad quality gaming headsets and headphones over the years. Thanks for your video! :-)

hey - thanks for the comment. It really is appreciated. Yeah, Beyerdynamic have really hit it hard with these Pro X range of headphones. The way you are describing using them is exactly what I was trying to get over in the video. These are not just studio use, professional headphones, but are right for anyone who cares about audio and wants to enjoy it whatever they may be in to. I will actually be looking at a pair of Audio Technica next week. It will be intriguing to see how they compare. I LOVE my Beyerdynamic....fact!!

heyyy - hi there. I was really pleasantly surprised at the different listening and wearing experience between the 700's and 900's. I've barely taken the 700's of since November, but the open soundstage and easier ambient listening experience of the open back 900's has seen me changing between the two pairs. I now monitor the audio for these videos on the 900's and my studio monitors you can see behind me. yes, I reckon you'd love the 900's 👍🏻

I wish they would sell differently tuned versions of these for people who want to use them for music rather than work.

they are not a bad domestic listen to be honest. I have on occasion, taken them out of the studio to use at home. Whilst not perfect, they are quite a comfortable listen

hi there - great to hear from you. For flat reproduction in music mixing, go for the 900's IMHO 👍🏻

Hi David. Looking at the video description I noticed that, under "gear in this video" you list Arnovion. I would love to know more about it. Anything you have to say, I will gladly listen to. Every time I search for "acoustic treatment" I end up hearing about GIK acoustics, Acoustic Fields, RealTraps and other companies, none of which deliver to Mexico. Surprisingly, Arnovion does, but I find little-to-no reviews and commentary about their products. I'm puzzled by that. I wonder why that is. Their Mobile Producer Kit peeks my interest, but I find no reviews on RU-vid! If you have anything to say about any of their products, please do.
@DavidLewisTech
@DavidLewisTech 2 года назад
hi there Sergio. Thanks for reaching out, it's great to hear from you. I first came across Artnovion in someone else's studio and was hugely impressed. They are not the cheapest of solutions, but what they offer is unique. I went through an independent retailer as I could not buy direct. I am glad I did. They first came out to measure the acoustic requirements of my studio and then suggested what panels I needed. They came back out to fit for me too (I am useless with a drill!!). They also happen to look great as well. I can't attach an image here, but if you check my Twitter @Dtalkingtech, I have just put up a panorama picture there for you. I may add a ceiling cloud at some point. They have a very soft acoustic sound to them that I love. Not overly aggressive, rather gently attenuating. I can'r recommend them highly enough. I hope that goes some way to helping.

I have the DT 700 PRO X and really enjoy them overall. Comfort is very good and the build quality is frankly impressive at the price point. My only quibble with the sound quality is I find them lacking a bit in the lower mids-with the result being a bit thin-sounding. And I don’t seem to be able to correct the deficit with EQ either, so maybe is a characteristic of the driver? Regardless, they are good enough to supplant my Oppo PM-3 for generally daily use.
@DavidLewisTech
@DavidLewisTech 2 года назад
the quality has always astounded me Garland; I totally agree. Have you tried any open backed headphones at all? I'd be interested to know. D
@fuzzytalz
@fuzzytalz 2 года назад
@@DavidLewisTech Indeed I have tried a few open back headphones-Audeze EL-8, Oppo PM-1 and Focal Clear, but they don’t really fit my use case of listening primarily on the go and in noisy environments. They all are to laid back in their sound signatures for my liking. I’m more a fan of detail and speed. Best-sounding pair of closed backs I’ve ever used are the Focal Stellia I splurged on. The most enigmatic are my Sony Z1R, which are disappointingly uneven-sounding but can be EQed to sound fantastic with most genres of music.
@DavidLewisTech
@DavidLewisTech 2 года назад
@@fuzzytalz I have heard so much good stuff about those Stellas.....I am intrigued....
@fuzzytalz
@fuzzytalz 2 года назад
@@DavidLewisTech I find the Stellias have exquisite midrange detail and articulation, allowing most wind and string instruments and the human voice to shine. The treble region is subdued but responds very well to equalization. Bass is just right out of the box; I don’t need to do anything. I mostly run them balanced straight out of a Sony NW-WM1A listening to orchestral music, rock, country, classic rhythm and blues, pop and hip hop. If you ever get to try the Stellia, I’d be interested to know your thoughts.

@@DavidLewisTech And do you think it is an upgrade from DT 880 to DT 900 pro? Are they good for filmmusic or classical music? And what about the contact pressure on head? Many thanks for your review.
@DavidLewisTech
@DavidLewisTech 2 года назад
@@october65-h6e hi there - contact pressure is always solid and tight with Beyer - it is almost their trademark. Still comfortable over long periods though. They are very responsive, and I think you would notice the difference, particularly with classical music, over the DT 880's. Thanks for getting in touch.

@@DavidLewisTech I'm back to square one because I've heard a negative review of the grado 80x's that has brought home the reality of the situation because all our hearing seems different & you've got to hear these things for yourself. Plus Richer Sounds is a bloody difficult treck. Meanwhile all you say is you'd happily listen to the telly with them on,hardly a ringing endorsement for someone who has spent thousands of pounds on his hi-fi setup & values listening to music as much as I do 😟 I appreciate that your review is honest David but there seems like some right crackpots doing them on here & I think I will only be able to trust my own judgement but where!
