It does seem like he's battling some demons. He could have made some better decisions but maybe he could have had some better support. I'm sure there's plenty of Americans who have that one relative that needs that support (from professionals) and it's breaking their heart to see them ruin their own lives without it.

Agree. This is a Betty Ford moment, and compassion and conversation would be so much more helpful to Hunter Biden and the nation than whatever the hell it is we're doing.

PTSD from serving the nation? He was administratively discharged from the Navy for cocaine after being in for only one year. He never saw combat, never saw his friends her shot and killed, doesn't have to live with the thought of lives he's taken in battle (not saying he should have, just that most combat vets with PTSD have experienced those things). If anything, his PTSD would probably stem from a very messed up childhood. If his sister is to believed, and I think I remember a #BelieveAllWomen floating around somewhere, their dad likes to do more than just sniff hair. That kind of stuff will drive people to destructive lifestyles. Also, Trump's budgets for 2017 and 2018 included money to the VA for use in drug addiction treatment for vets as well as money to HHS to do the same with citizens. So, to act like the Republican party hasn't done anything on this issue is to ignore very real recent history.

@@johnpatrick1647 If we're talking about Hunter's childhood, when he was two, his mother and sister were killed in a car accident with him and Beau in the car as well. They were injured, Hunter with "a fractured skull and severe traumatic brain injuries." At the age of 2. Children's skulls are still fragile at that age. That brain trauma is very probable to be lifelong in some capacity. And already, that is critical mental, emotional, and physical damage to Beau and Hunter. We also can't forget about Beau's death, which prompted Hunter's addiction and dismissal from the Navy. We aren't to say how close he was with Beau, but they also went through the trauma of the car accident together. They grew up together and experienced this painful loss together. And if I'm not mistaken, Beau also used at some point in his life. Addiction runs deep, whether a person is more susceptible genetically or by circumstance. I cannot imagine being in a car accident that causes the death of my mother and a sibling and later losing that last sibling. We don't know the thoughts that ran through his head: fault, survivor's guilt, shame, etc. Regarding Hunter's time in the Navy, I don't know enough to say what he experienced and what he didn't. Regardless, people process experiences differently. His PTSD could be due to the car accident and head trauma, Beau's death, as well as his experience in the Navy. This whole thing is a really sad story, but it is an example of how the mental healthcare system and the VA failed him. I feel pain typing this story; I can only imagine what he feels.
