President Joe Biden's upcoming visit to Angola marks a significant moment for the nation as it aims to showcase its potential as a thriving democracy. Amidst ongoing concerns about human rights violations, including the unjust detention of activists, Biden's focus appears to lean towards the economic opportunities presented by the Lobito Corridor. This multibillion-dollar infrastructure project is central to Angola's strategy to enhance trade and connectivity, benefiting both the US and the global community. With over $3 billion already committed to its development, the Lobito Corridor promises to boost investments across various sectors, including agriculture and clean energy. However, questions remain regarding the US's apparent hypocrisy in prioritising economic gains over pressing human rights issues. In this discussion, we delve into the implications of Biden's visit, the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor, and the future of Angola's bilateral relationship with the US.

@@NicolauTeixeira-pf3nj not the government, angolan people are corrupted, everywhere u go in Angola, u fund one corrupted one. We learned it with a hell of comunist regime. Always we use to find a way to do things by corrupt others. Eg. We received Cuban teachers and doctor, they came to work, but in short time they understood the business. In university people don't mind about cience, they show to these profissional how things work, pupils give the money and teachers the note, don't mind about future, the future of the country let givernamment keep. Becouse, corrupted givernamment all the country have, corrupted country u don't find everywhere, South Africa, Nigeria, BraZil, USA, China are also corrupted governament, what separates from us, Russia, Korea, Iran and so on, is the culture of the people. People in some of those countries, don't have corruption as a alternative culture, becouse people learn it from pregnancy before born, people learn from family, from the community, friends an in the school. We learned corruption before we born, we learnt it from our fathers, family, friends and in the community, eg, in the our children school, teacher teacher our son's above dirty, the head of the school admit such hell, for me, cleaning the place where we stay, come 1st before we teach the real science, people wait the government come to demolish the school, and buld new one. No head of our children school mind to plant flowers,to keep the gardens, to teach the pupils pick up the dirty before seat for study, u don't find it anywhere. This little child today, will be a big leader with bad behavior, this is not governament, the bad behavior is simply running in our blood, to change it with extraordinary men's in extraordinary situation.

The US had a terrible experience in Somalia in the 90's no more direct interventions in Africa since then. Do we really want the US to be the police of the world? Because it came with strings attached and Africa already fought hard to gain it's freedom. The west (not only the US) will always ask "what is there for me to gain?" Oh Africa! Nobody is coming to save you, mature and save yourself. The difference between the Congo and Angola regarding LGBT rights is that there isn't a strong movement of the LGBT community requesting equal rights in Angola and the country doesn't mind having a LGBT community as opposed to some African countries who strongly persecute this group. When you have the justice minister targeting LGBT it's bad publicity for your country.

Angola is a country like no other on the continent. A powerhouse even. Only second to Nigeria in terms of crude oil exports. There is a vested interest in the US playing nice to Angola because Angola has never needed the US. In fact Angola is new to this game in comparison to other African countries. You have your Ghanas, Egypt, Sierra Leone who are more in tune with US and its visits and interests. Angola would like to see more money (America is still number 1 economically) and know-how come into the country in terms of investments into private organizations like the state run airline company TAAG, and in other sectors as well. Chinese investments in terms of building football stadiums and town halls only goes so far. But the real issue in Angola is the state providing the youth especially with a better educational system so this know-how can be created inside the country in the future. America has more to offer at this given moment but China and Russia are still in the picture in terms of Angola. It's win-win cooperation. America maintains it's influence on the continent by siding with new, strong allies like Angola with all the coups and BRICS going on, and Angola benefits by having American companies invest more in Angola other than in the oil sector.

@@ambessaseway5594 Really, we used to wait for someone that can't be trusted. No one want to work in farmers, none wants to fish, all of us want to win a certificate, from the night to day be a boss of one governament office even without skill. This behavior come from our comunist regime, something changed, only in the paper, always givernamment promises to th people todo things that is not his really paper, just to stand the politics challenges. This way, we all lay the blame of our poverty to the governament, we forget that the leaders comes from the community with ba behavior, from bad trees can not wait good fruits. Eg. Here in Angola, people don't mind about dirty, even in our house, markets, School, nones mind, all of us think, this governament works. We sell our farmers and buy a car to make taxi, 3 or days we crash and all the live stop, I see, this is impossible we get to where we want becouse the government is only part of our soul, feeling and uses. The leader of the society is what we're, unless something extraordinary happenes to change radically this stage to emancipate the feeling of our nowadays community.
