The purpose of this video is to demonstrate what is required to install a Biesemeyer fence on an existing, non-Delta table saw. I truly thought is was going to be easier than it actually was. In the end I am satisfied with the performance of the fence. I should have an update in an upcoming video. My thoughts are at the end of the video. Thanks for watching!

Aw man, super frustrating! Sorry to see you running into these issues. Glad that you have a workable solution, though! I'm thinking about upgrading my fence as well, so as usual, great to see you being a few steps ahead doing all the Trailblazing! As far as I can find, you're the only one doing comprehensive fixes/tweaks to your G0771 on RU-vid, so thank you and keep up the good work!

I just installed a 52” Biesemeyer on an 87 Unisaw…same problem! Pissed me off cause I spent so much time making the side table and slotting the holes for it. Why do they give that dimension in the manual? Also, mine came with a little template but it’s not tall enough! I heard they make them in china now. I’m sure that’s part of the issue! Looking forward to having it all dialed in.

Hi Thomas, I just ordered a Delta 36 T 30 T3 from Lowes. I need a longer fence to the left [ 24 " [ so I found a source for the 3x2 rectangular tubing . I need 70 " from end to end on my saw and 6 foot of the material comes out to $25.00 and the angle iorn should be about the same for front and back. Those allen head screws you have can be taken out one by one and just countersink it some more and it will stop it from banging. The fence I ordered has an aluminum face.

What is the purpose of the rear rail?
@SouthpawWorkshop
@SouthpawWorkshop 10 месяцев назад
It helps keep the saw top flat especially under the added weight of the new fence. The main thing it does is allow you to extend your fence past the edge of the table, as the rails tend to always be longer than the table top. Without the rear rail, the fence would fall off once extended past the edge of the saw top.

What tablesaw did you purchase? Like it? Would you buy it again? Great video.. thanks

Hey Steve. I have a Grizzly G0771. Great saw. Definitely would buy again if I started all over again. In the process of saving up for a Sawstop. But for the price, you won’t get a better saw than the G0771

The one that came with my delta was a little easier to install because of existing holes in the saw itself. However, I have a similar problem with the fence getting caught in the miter slot. Thx for the tip. was also wondering if yours came with an adjustment to make the fence perpendicular to the table top. mine is a little off from square and resawing is a little off.
@SouthpawWorkshop
@SouthpawWorkshop 8 лет назад
+Jeff Correia I believe if you look at the "T" portion of the fence, there should be a screw on either side of the fence. Mine are made of plastic. You can adjust fence plumb with those. If it is a matter of the fence being parallel to the blade, you can adjust that with the bolts the hold the fence to the "T". I sure hope that helps. Thanks!

I just installed one of these yesterday and I’m having some of the same problems. There’s no way to adjust the fence square to the table, and I’m out of square by just a little. I’m going to try and shim the pad that rests on the tube, and I’m hoping that does it. Pretty disappointed, I was expecting more precision for the price. Also expecting more than one adjustment.

The front rail needs to be installed perfectly. This will eliminate many issues people have.
@KyleS860
@KyleS860 3 года назад
@@alsmith7316 it is, the problem was that one side was lower as it sat on the tube. I used an old feeler gauge to shim the pad on that side and fixed the issue.

I know this is an old video, but the bolts that came with the fence and are hitting the fence in the track are probably not seated properly because the taper is hitting the straight edge of the hole in the saw table. Counter sink the holes in the table and that will solve the problem.

Exactly is the same thing that happen to me. I finally found that the sides of the fence moves up and down. I turned the fence upside-down with a block of wood under the metal and tapped the sides with a rubber hammer. Both sides move sufficient as to let the fence operate fine with no dragging. At the end I did not need any shims. I though that I was the only one with the problem. If you try the remedy you will be able to remove all the shims. Thanks, that did work for me (right side face was a little lower). I still had to shim it by a washer on top of that. I must have measured ten times and still ended up wrong.

Is it worth what that thing costs?

It has its flaws, but yes, it is worth it to have something you set up once and never have to worry about it again.

I'm getting ready to install a bies to my jet contractors saw. The saw has threaded bolt holes that one bolt is just a smidgen off not allowing the bolt to go all the way in. I contacted Delta and they said to drill the bolt hole larger than the bolt to allow for adjustment of the rail. Anyone done this?
@SouthpawWorkshop
@SouthpawWorkshop 8 лет назад
+Michael A I had to drill all my holes as most of the supplied locations didn't match up. Not a big deal if you ask me. Cast iron drills real easy.

The height template that comes with the fence puts the front rail 2-27/32" below the surface of the table saw. Is the back rail also supposed to be 2-27/32" below the surface? Does seem possible.
@michaela4141
@michaela4141 8 лет назад
Sry, I meant to say Does NOT seem possible
@SouthpawWorkshop
@SouthpawWorkshop 8 лет назад
+Michael A the purpose of the back rail is to support the fence when it is adjusted past the table saw wings. The top edge needs to be flush with the top of the table. No precision need here. Too low and the fence will hang up when you try to slide it back over the wing. Too high and the fence will be riding on the back rail, creating a gap between the fence and the table top. Hope that helps.

Sir! I just bought my first tablesaw today. And well. I dont know what im doing. But i want a beisemeyer fence. But after all the crap you went thru. No thanks! What fence would you buy now after all this?
@SouthpawWorkshop
@SouthpawWorkshop 6 лет назад
It was a pain in the butt to set up, but the performance has been solid ever since. I'm planning on adding a UHMW face to the fence soon, hopefully to address the issues I am having with the formica face that is currently installed. If you are looking for alternatives, you should check out the Grizzly.com website. They have some decent affordable fences there that would work just as well.

Thomas Lightle - Red Barn Woodworking The more I research I think I'm gonna go for the extruded aluminum fence on a beisemeyer. A little spendy, but I like the "t" track options.

I used the template they now provide to set the height... Same problem. I need to shim the tube up about 60 or 70 thousandths. Washers would not provide good stability so I will get strips of metal to put under the tube near the screws. That plastic shoe thing looks poor... I left my old round tube on the back of the saw and will make an Oak block to ride on the tube.

the plastic is HDPE and looks like new 18 months later. I didn't have issues with the washers, but I see where it would cause lack of confidence. Thanks for sharing!
