I had a old biesemeyer fence that I had damaged from years of use and people running the fence into a running blade. I took off the laminate and behind it were screws holding the cheap press board to the metal tube. I just bought a new one replaced the laminate and whalla..like new
Simply remove the old laminate from the base with heat (use a heat gum, not a propane torch) and replace with new. Use contact glue and a roller on the new piece. That black rubber piece has a spline which fits into a groove in the base. Remove and replace with a wider piece to cover the edge of the laminate, it comes in 1/8" increments. Make sure to remove alll the old glue before placing the new or you will have more bumps than you started with.
We are on the same page. Already ordered my heat gun. Any idea how to remove the old adhesive? You think goof-off would ruin the plywood substrate? I plan on replacing with a sheet of UHMW
I would try to attach a piece of UVHM ( I think that’s the name) as you wore talking about and get the size you need and drill and counter sink holes and attach it to the fence. Now the hard part is making absolute that it’s square to the table, and exact measurement from your miter rails. I did this on my own saw and it worked out great. Just a idea. Good luck and keep us posted please.
I was going to suggest the same thing..It's a shame an expensive device like that can be ruined so easily! I've thought many times that a companies reputation is derived from it's customer service and the quality of their product. Maybe they don't care what the quality is.. Sad....
Biesemeyer manufacturing was moved overseas long ago. Along with it was a noticeable decline in quality. Still one of the best standalone fences you can buy. Just needs a little tweaking and it will be perfect.
This is a table saw! Stuff happens. I know Biesemeyer makes replacement flats - replace it and send back damaged goods when received seems like the best course of action.
I don’t see the point of stating the obvious here. I use my table saw for precision work, and any part of the fence that isn’t flat will affect that precision. As far as damage during shipping: sometimes the damage isn’t worth the hassle.
Ok. I understand the precision work but not sending back damaged goods as "sometimes the damage isn't worth the hassle"? However, going onto RU-vid to complain about it is? Peculiar?
You obviously don't get the point of the video. This has nothing to do with the shipping damage. It is about how the laminate layer allows wood splinters warp the face of the fence.
I actually have seen that video before. I am considering doing something like that or replacing the faces of my fence with UHMW plastic. Probably both!
