"It's the hardest way". That's how you started the narrative on this video. Implying that one's choice of weapon is somehow the most important factor in determining the challenge of a hunt. Had this hunter ventured into the back country with limited gear, hunted for and spotted the bear, planned and executed a difficult stalk, and finally shot him with traditional archery equipment....then skinned, quartered, and packed him out...then yes, you would be correct. Because in that case the hunter had to overcome some serious odds to get close enough for the shot. That fact, in and of itself, is what makes hunting with traditional archery equipment a supreme challenge....getting in close enough for the shot. The skills to do that were never demonstrated in this video. The question of whether or not a bear would be close enough for a shot with his recurve was predetermined by the fact he was hunting over bait. And while I understand that hunting bears over bait is an important conservation tool, let's not pretend that there's anything sporting about it...no matter the weapon.
@bearhuntingmagazine
@bearhuntingmagazine 4 года назад
Rich, the intent of the statement "the hardest way" was clearly meant in terms of the weapon used - which is a very true statement. Traditional archery is the most limiting weapon available for use in Canada (can't use spears or atlatls). We of all people, know that there are more challenging ways to hunt bears with primitive equipment - just like you said - spot and stalk. I see the point you're making and we'd agree 100%. But making a qualm with us over it is kinda weird, bro. Right on and good hunting!

@bearhuntingmagazine
@bearhuntingmagazine 4 года назад
Premjit Sethi thanks for your interest in our video. Black bears numbers are thriving in North America and they must be managed through science-based hunting. Taking out a small number of animals, like this one, actually helps the remaining bears continue to thrive. We eat the meat and use the hide like we have for thousands of years. Thanks again.
@manowode6286
@manowode6286 2 года назад
If the Bear is killed at close range in the most humane way (Close Range, Accurately, silent Bow and Surgically sharp Arrow.) for meat and hide. Also to help balance nature then hunting I agree is fine. But this is a life and must always be appreciated! I do think some bears are not as bad as others though. As long as people respect the animal and do the Job properly as the Indians did its ok. Thanks. Quote this if you wish.

Thanks for your interest in our video, Jeff Bishoff. What's weird is that you don't understand that modern wildlife management through hunting is why we have black bears in North American in the first place. Hunters are actually the good guys that fund wildlife conservation through hunting licenses and an $1.6 billion excise tax called The Robertson/Pittman Act. Hunters love wildlife, and taking out a few animals from the population helps the remaining bears thrive. Take some time and do some research while on quarantine, bro! Thanks and we wish you the best.

@bearhuntingmagazine
@bearhuntingmagazine 4 года назад
Joel Torres thanks for watching our video. We do enjoy bear hunting, we don’t have any shame in that fact. However, the science-based management through hunting is what makes it, actually, a really beneficial practice for the bear population as a whole. Bears populations are thriving and must be managed by hunting. Taking out the older mature males helps the remaining bears continue to thrive and we use the meat and hide like we have for thousands of years. Thanks

Hey Theodore, thanks for your comment and we respect your opinion. We're not asking everyone to be a hunter, nor should they. We're just asking for some intelligent, thoughtful, research-based and progressive, modern understanding of science-based hunting to be applied before broad generalizations are applied to hunting. Right on friend. We wish you the best.
