Stuart Adamson and Tony Butler discuss aspects of the band's new album, 'Driving to Damascus' and general related topics with Billy Sloan that was shown on Scottish Television, 1999.
The footage is a little grainy but the interview itself is quite a good one.

I was fortunate to see Big Country three times... and they were amongst the best bands I've seen... way better than the so-called bigger bands at the time. Tony Butler and Mark Brzezick's bass and drums are the best and tightest you'll hear... the guitar sounds were unique and unlike anything else. But it was Stewarts songs and melodies and presence that cemented the band... he would have every single person in the audience bouncing and singing for him with hearts full of joy... then during a quieter song, his lyrics would grab you and have you biting your lip... and praying your mates don't notice what a soft shite you are. A song called 'In This Place' gets me every time. Anyway... anyone that's been to a Big County gig or has any of their albums will know what I mean. You'll never be forgotten Stuart Adamson... Scotland's finest.

Lovely comment. Do you still have some vivid memories of this first gig? I am quite envious I have to admit 😉. You'd hear him frequently reminiscing about his youth in Crossgates. A special time that must have defined him in various ways. Thank you for sharing.

I went to see Big Country in around 1995 at the North Wales theatre in Llandudno, they were excellent!! Although I think some of the crowd thought it was a country band that were due on!!Hardly any applause at first,Stuart said on stage it was like playing a ' in concert' show! It picked up later, fans all went from their seats to the front,they were class!!!!

The farce that was the release of 'Fragile Thing' was something that drove Stuart to where he ended up a couple of years later. The song was their strongest single in many years and was tipped to go top 20. Stuart was immensely proud of it, and when they were the victim of yet another marketing balls up, it barely limped into the bottom reaches of the top 75, never to be seen or heard of again. This had an icredibly negative effect on Stuart, and the rest is (sad) history.

Macca70 agreed. It was an utter debacle by people in charge that should have not been so compromised by their conflict of interest.

@@BC1000Stars Can you tell me more about the conflict of interest please?
@BC1000Stars
@BC1000Stars 3 года назад
@@bachgammon1 sure. Ian Grant was their manager but also the head of the record company/label that Big Country were signed to so when the single got banned for having packaging that didn’t meet chart requirements, the usual process would be for the band manager to take action against the record label but that would mean… taking action against himself so that was never going to happen. No one was ever held accountable for that error that had, as it turned out, far reaching consequences.

@@BC1000Stars Thanks. What a shame. I thought for a moment that this was the same legendary manager of Led Zeppelin until Google reminded me that that guy was called Peter Grant.

This is Stuart's second wife in the video, Melanie Shelley. Does anyone know actual facts about their relationship, ie, not hearsay or gossip.

Shame Stuart decided he needed to become American sounding - that's when I stepped off from BC - really miss the band - RIP
