A buddy of mine worked at a car auction place in the late 90s. The stories he told me about what they did to the cars and in em made me not ever trust a car auction place.
I bought from copart once. Did the “buy now” option. All into it I paid $1,200 for a one owner E38 that I wanted to keep for myself. Went end to end on the car and put another $1,500 into it. So I got a 740i with near mint interior and exterior for less than $3k. The car was totaled because the 78yo lady that owned it hit a curb wrecking the radiator and suspension in the front end which of course a BMW repair shop would charge huge money to repair. The owners insurance card was found inside and I got in touch with her to learn the history of the car and what the accident was. Met her and got her extra keys plus a dime her late husband kept with all service history. So I got lucky. Wouldn’t take the chance again.
Bought dozens of cars over the last few years at copart. Hell, I picked up a $10k car just yesterday that I paid $3500 for. Thing drove 2 hours home. Only flaw is a chip in the windshield. All you have to do is bid properly. I've gotten multiple bad engine cars, but I simply bid as if its a blown engine car in the first place. A little common sense, and copart is fine
Hey Mike I am not from the US and wanna try to flip some cars from copart. But I am not sure about paper process. As I understood a car from auction doesnt have plates and it has some title on previous owner name. So to sell a car I should firstly transfer a title on my name and then wait for plates. And only after that, which take around few weeks, i can sell a car. Is it correct? or maybe there is another way to do it.
You're a 100% right about your comments! I bought a Chevrolet Truck off Copart they took pictures at weird angles they made it look like it was cosmetic damage only and didn't really show you the total damage turns out it had frame damage and it cost a LOT more to repair then what was disclosed on the listing. I had a friend buy a F250 turbo diesel from Copart in the pictures engine was complete after paying for it the tow truck showed up next day someone stole the turbo and other high dollar engine parts from the truck. Buyer beware is the best advice using copart after the purchase price, their high fees, towing out of there and repair costs you're almost better off buying the same car used!
Yup, agree with you, Craigslist shot themselves with that $5 fee but i think the main reason they did that was to scare away scams. Facebook market is the best but you have to literally to be in your phone all day to be able get the good deals, because as soon as the pop up, they are gone. I have seen cars sell within minutes they were posted
Have to disagree. Facebook is filled with bored jokers, craigslist is buyers. I've posted a lot of stuff on craigslist and Facebook same time. 90% of the real players come from craigslist.
@@lightworker303 This is true. Mostly bullshitters on FB marketplace, on both sides buyers and sellers. A lot of those deals you see that seem good and disappear fast are fugn fugazi
I used to work at a salvage auction. (Not this one). Several insurance companies especially State farm wants the parts for the vehicles kinda put together to make the vehicles look good for pictures. It's not Copart that is wanting to do it.. it's in the insurance companies wanna do deal.. hope this helps
All the ones that say minor scratch and dent means bad engine. and battery dead so they can't show miles means super high miles. 95% of cars smell like hell. Bad place to buy. and fees after the last bid are like one third more added to the final price.
Copart refused to refund me money when I bought a run and drive Miata NA. The engine had no oil or coolant. My credit card company agreed with me no oil or coolant was not okay. The CC company refunded my money. Copart was pissed.
I subscribed to your channel because you are like the ultimate Rodney Dangerfield of the mechanic world. Not sure how you endure so much abuse. Still trying to figure it out.
Got a newer Audi from Copart. All looked good on the pictures. When the car arrived all of the adaptive cruise control was ripped out. About $10k worth of damage of all the trim ripped out by the rear view mirror (to rip the camera out) and then the front bumper was damaged to rip the radar units out. Never again from Copart! 10+ cars from IAAI and it never happened besides a gear shift knob once, which was basically unscrewed.
So a couple of thoughts- 1. I bought a boat that looked a mess. Cleaned up great turned out to be an excellent deal- have used it for years now. 2. Everything you buy on Copart is a risk. If you go into it knowing it is a gamble then it can be fun. You need to be able to do your own work and you know that if you get a piece of crap you may have to resell it. Can cost some money but again if you go in with that in mind- that it is a risk, you will do okay. 3. The old saying “buyer beware” really applies 4. The fact that you are doing this is excellent. Greatly appreciated.
I cancelled my Copart membership last year (2021) because Copart made a mandatory 12 cars must be bought a year or your fees would be higher then the normal. Cars seemed to be going higher and bids from other countries has gotta stop as thats ridicoulous. SHAME ON YOU COPART
I'm now on my 3rd Copart car, you have to be selective. I have not had the issues you have at all. I agree there is plenty of people paying to much but there is still very good deals on there. I do laugh every week at prices some cars go for but there are still good deals. Auctions always have crazy people paying to much for stuff.
I confronted one nicely about the pictures he was taking of a 360 view and jokingly told him, “hope you take better pictures of the last car we got here!” Picked up a bmw as the infamous “Runs and Drives” and just like every one we got so far it didn’t!! every ecu wire was ripped out the dash and under the hood no way it ever ran….and he got on the radio and called his manager next thing I know manager comes up and asked, “if there’s a problem here?” I was confused and figured out what was going on told him no just waiting to get loaded up. He asked me to step away from the guy taking pictures so we did, after he walked off I asked the original guy taking pictures that felt “like there was a problem.” If he gets paid to hide stuff like that taking pictures? I said I wasn’t trying to come off wrong to you I know your just doing your job. And he told me sorry for calling his manger over instead of just asking me to step back for a 360 picture but YES THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO TRY AND HIDE THAT STUFF. We laughed I told him I figured they did 🤦🏻♂️ the best part about this car we got burned on is we lost the bid and these 🐓 suckers called and said we was the next highest bid and could have it for our bid and we accepted but didn’t wanna hear shit from us about the condition it was in. We also buy a lot of specialty cars complete totals for certain parts and receive them with the parts missing. Telling us that insurance allowed the customer to keep it or some other hoopla bs!!! I’m so mad typing this post my punctuation is far from correct 😂 but I could go on and on with horror stories how Copart has fucked us this year for over 100k!!!
We buy very new cars. One owner type of cars. It’s risky but can be fun. I got a M4 with 28k on it. I was very lucky the car was good. It was in TX and I live in PA. Shipping was a nightmare since it needed suspension work and was not able to be driven.
As of May 2022 Kansas is really cracking down on skipped titles. I won't buy a car anymore unless the owner has titled it and that eliminates 80% of Facebook sellers.
U are absolutely correct copart has always junk yard pickings lots of cars that are put togethers lots of hidden damage I bought Escalade from New York I’m in chicago sold as run and drive got to chicago has rod knock and frame and absolutely no brakes!!! And fees are out the roof there is no money to be made there I bought other units there put together with drywall screws!!! Some of these salvage units the damage is extensive the only way to make money on those u better have a frame machine an excellent body guy and painter better yet ur own facility I had better luck at manhiems or carmax this was before pandemic now prices are insane sometimes not even worth buying anything lots of junk !!!! Thank u for ur video very truthful and informative keep up the good work
Thanks Nathans. You may just have saved my bacon. I am a total newbie and I was just about to pay for the Copart membership and start bidding. But I knew that there are a lot of Scammers out there and used cars are probably one of biggest scamming game out there.
Copart even makes it a pain in the ass to see the car. NOWHERE does it say what you have to do to get in to see a car. The first time I went to the Copart here in Kansas City. It took me two hours to get in to see the car. You have to download a app, get a OCD scanner and scan it to get into line to go into the yard. Then good luck actually finding the car. The Copart here in Kansas City is huge. They give a an approximation of where the car is there is no guarantee that that is where the car is. If you think Walmart employees are clueless ask a Copart employee for help. I paid for a inspection on a 2018 BMW X1 28. I got the inspection 30 minutes after the car sold. All the inspection report was is more pictures and a lot of not sure of this and not sure of that.
I bought a brand new camper from Copart When I received it from Georgia to California, they stripped all the appliances etc. They blamed the transport company. I know it wasn't him, he locked the camper and sealed the door.
You are doing a good job. I once fell prey to Copart and paid a hefty price for it. I got excited and overbid, and later found out it was misfiring. It was 2010 Acura Tl
I always felt someone needs to expose some of the youtubers mentioned (ahem!) in this video for what they really are...kind of sad how they are marketing fool's gold to the public!
Def. copart is sponsoring youtubers..very rare to see IAAI walkarounds and Iaai builds..90 percent are copart..both auctions sell the same cars, similar prices,..etc..
i used to be able to save some money going to junk yards to get used parts but now days thats not really the case just to save 20% id rather buy new and get a warranty with my parts
My only buy from CoPart was a 2014 F02 for $6k. It was salvage and lemon buyckack, already been through the bodyshop (no body damage), and had a rebuilt engine stamped 2018. Haven't been able to find anything wrong with it mechanically. Previous owner was a druggy slob. It was sold directly by insurance. Did he not pay the deductible maybe..? How would a finished car end up there?
I've been a licensed dealer for 18 years now and I have never purchased a car from copart and never will. I don't understand the logic of purchasing a totaled out salvage car to try and turn around and sell it for a profit? If you have a use parts business then I can understand the logic.
Of course Copart employees are mad. Ever seen thier cars? That's right, they all drive badass cars expensive exotics and so forth. Look at what they make vs. What they drive. They all get first dibbs on the good cars. Then steal the parts they need. A friend of mine works at copart St. Louis. We bid on the junk that's left over!
There is no point or sense in it. These auction vehicles are WAY overpriced, most of it is "Shill Bidding" by Copart employess to artificially drive up the final auction price. They're a bunch of fucking crooks. Fuck Copart.
Concerning Bring A Trailer - You can list your car for as low as $99. In order for them to "accept" your car to list you must agree to list at a very low reserve or they won't accept it. They want to be pretty sure your car sells and they collect their fees. About their fees: seller only pays to list - buyer pays 5% of sale price up to a limit of $5k. And they make you take hundreds of pictures. Great place for sellers, not so great for buyers. The nice/rare cars typically have bidding wars at the end bringing the sale prices to stupid levels. I've seen some average cars sell for really stupid money.
For me the problem was they hid the actual title status on copart but a 3rd party broker had to reveal that it couldn't be registered in my state despite it being clean title status on copart.
Ima dealer and spend about 60k on copart a year I only bet on insurance vehicles and there’s been times where I’ve gotten a shit bucket. All I got to say is Fuck copart I’m really on the verge of getting out of the business because of these inconsistencies. It’s sad because I really love doing this. One thing to do to help is if you pick up your car or have a transporter pick it up make sure u or they turn the car on before you leave the yard so you can bring it to there attention before you leave they will refund you!
Sounds like you’ve had a bad experience. I have been buying from Copart and IAA for years now. Most sight unseen and I built a channel with almost 400k subscribers from it in 3 years. They haven’t sponsored me in 2 years now and I still love the salvage auctions.
CoPart is a salvage pool. You can hire someone to inspect the car for you if you cannot. Very true the pics don't always show everything. I always figure if a insurance company is the seller, the damage caused the vehicle to be a total loss. No I would never pay retail on a wrecked vehicle.
That’s just how we take the pictures tbh we have to take them at a certain angle or they get flagged. Also we aren’t allowed to say what exactly is wrong with the car if it has to do with mechanical problems. And when it comes to missing parts if we take them out the car to take pictures sometimes the loaders snatch the car up before we can put them back in so we throw them in the back of a pickup truck or something lol
This makes no sense.... why TF would you take parts OUT of a car to take a picture...? That is the dumbest remark that I have heard! Just be honest and say that we steal them from the winner of the auction and sell the parts on the side... you dumb F!!
Its called nit pick every little mark and scratch on a car u can find good deals at copart especially now the West coast has real good deals. I found 2016 BMW 5 series M sport going for 23K with 53K miles in Las vegas during the messy times when things were closed down. and sold it for 29.5 to Carmax with branded title. I went to OkC and found a 1976 Seville clean title was label Non runner NK got it for 1500K runs like timex.
I say this about copart they suck they say I won a car for 400 and I went to pay it and there crazy fees but then I got banned from copart forever. Just bc they screwed up I never do business with copart ever again IAA sucks to now.
I won an auction a couple years ago for a 99 M3, running/driving, $2300 plus shipping. I didn't think my bid would win, so my wife learned after I won. Yes, it was rough, had to put a new bumper bar and cover on, new water pump but ran well. Sold it on Craigslist to a e36 aficionado months later. I got lucky. Probably won't do it again. Too many unknowns. Marital discomfort. Re: craigslist- I still think it's worthwhile. Recently bought a low mileage (for me) tuned 335i n54 sedan which is my daily. And recently sold a high mileage 2011 335is for decent price. Gotta filter out dealers to avoid all the garbage ads. I've gotten out of the Facebook habit so not to familiar w marketplace.
Forgot to mention the m3 had Dinan exhaust, chip, cai, strut brace... probably cost a ton when new haha. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RirsnnsYSNQ.html
El truco es pagar por lo peor y esperar por lo mejor hacer tu propio trabajo como en todo negocio hay gente que no se quiere ensuciar las manos y hacer buena plata yo siempre gano y llevo muchos años comprando en Copart 😎😎😎😎
I think alot of this is opinion based on the pandemic crazy car market. I just watched live auctions, and I live near a co part, seems very doable to make money.
You're delusional if you think the final price of these Copart auction vehicles are anywhere within the realm of "reasonable"....you're just as bad as these reviewers. Get real.
I live in a town with a huge Copart. What will people pay to have me go put my eyes an a car, smell it(lol) FaceTime or video, do a Proper walk around?
you're better off buying in facebook marketplace since you can talk to the seller. Most of the youtube copart people just do it for the content, there are details that are hidden or not disclosed. Either they are not driven at all or just sold immediately, it's pretty much a gamble and most of the time you pay so much.
Hi, I was ripped off by COPART/caromoto just a few days ago. The same method. They gave false online information for the car. Main damage: minor dents and scratches Second damage: blank Highlight: Run and Drive Real car status: Transmission issue, The car does not drive. Has anyone had success in suing them?
Here's my experience with copart insurance company see in my car had to go there to be evaluated for the damage tow truck driver came gave him the key and everything about a month later insurance company called denying my claim get the car back my keys are missing dirt in my car like someone's been driving around a lot they set the parking brakes on every vehicle and don't understand why my 2011 e70 with the hot v seems like something else is wrong with the vehicle don't know what's going on because I don't have the key and it's going on 3 weeks now back and forth with insurance company and copart
If you buy at copart it makes no sense there are total by the insurance company for a reason most are total or it cost more to fix and it's not worth it I don't see how you buy cars with salvage titles. buyers pay a little more and buy right at the long you wind up spending more to fix a beater, back in the days those cars went where they belong at the JUNK yard cause that's what they are
Let me steal the show here for a quick minute and offer you my 2002 M3 Convertible for sale. I have over $10,000 in receipts for parts and labor. She's a doll and needs nothing. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below and I'll circle back with all the details. CLEAN TITLE! PS. Yes, those listing fees are obnoxious! :)
Yeah honestly Copart is pretty much a scam now a days, id never pay msrp for a salvage tittle with damage. we needa boost these videos in the algorithm, not for sure but i feel as though when used car prices fall so will all other salvage vehicles
Just sounds like you are putting your personal experience to trash on copart. Just because you live in the middle of nowhere doesn’t mean nobody can drive to go see the car. MOST people are close and aren’t going to be spending “70, actually 100 dollars on fuel”
I suspect the the Copart sponsored RU-vidrs get access to the choice cars that are generally not available to the ordinary public. The poor rubes think they can get the same stuff.
I started buying salvage cars in the early 2000’s, my local yard wasn’t a copart yet. Around 2018 or 19 is when it started getting really bad, RU-vidr’s is who I blame. That’s when I started seeing salvages going for more than clean titles at the dealer auction. I have 3 coppart’s within 50 miles the biggest one started a new thing, they are only open to view cars Friday from 10-3, you have to be escorted around. I know guys who buy in-ops at manhiem and take them there as run and drives because they will move that inch forward and back. I haven’t bought anything from there in 2 years and don’t plan on going back. I’m surprised Carmax or carvana hasn’t bought them out. Carvana buying adesa is going to drive used car prices even higher.
My mistake was looking out for reviews for CAROMOTO only. I did not check COPART on the internet (I am doing it now and I am scared). So many people with the same complaint, Misrepresented information. They act in bad faith, surely! Now I have a Brick with wheels and 3000k less in my pocket.
Of course buying the car from an owner is the best but they are charging you 9K for a 2008 Honda Accord but you can buy a 2008 Honda Accord from copart for 1500 lol your a goofy
