Slightly diff story. When I was a teen, my parents had a PC in the living room, and it was under a big shelf like thing. At night because it was hot I would open the back door which was feet away. Let that breeze in. This of course meant moths would occasionally fly in too. So, as I sat there in the dark typing away on the computer, I was used to moths flopping around. Landing on me or the desk etc. One night they got bad. Every few minutes a tiny or large moth would flop around the light of the computer screen. I just ignored them. Well, I was typing some code as I was learning HTML for web design and suddenly a SUPER HUGE moth flops right next to my right hand on the keyboard. I didn’t even look at it. I was used to this. Plus, I needed to squint and focus as it was dark and the screen wasn’t giving off much light. So, no need to look. I kept typing away and when I was done with my batch of code I then decided to look as I noticed it was moving. Well, it wasn’t a moth. It was the largest Wolf Spider I had ever seen. I guess it climbed up the shelf. My mom had tons of stuff from the floor and higher so it would have easily done so. I froze. I was just 14 so I didn’t know jack about spiders. It obviously thought my typing hands were a moth or something and decided to leap down from above. Then noticed the target was bigger than it could handle, and it froze. Staring at my hand. It was a good 60 seconds before I even looked down and seen it wasn’t a moth. It sure didn’t help me like spiders lol. As soon as I yanked my hand away it ran into the dark on the desk. I spent the rest of the night with my chair a good 2 feet away from the desk and I would lean in and type. LOL.
First, wow. I am in my fourties and I don't know the first thing about coding, impressive. Secondly, wow. When I was 14 or even just a couple years ago, I am pretty sure I would have just passed out or shot through the roof like a rocket. Big spider or any spider would scare the crap out of me for sure , lol. Even now, I would likely be very startled to find it was a spider lol. I love the story, great one and thank you!
@@chrisegnoto Even better story for ya. This one is straight up nightmare fuel. Im 42. Same house. I had kids now so we took the house over when my parents moved. They owned the home. Anyways, my at the time 3 year old son came bursting out the tub nakey and jumped on the couch waiting for mom to dress him. At the same time my wife yells for me as their is a HAND SIZED huntsman spider running up the wall on the other side of the living room. [near that back door lol] So, i come in and grab the broom and was planning to squash it. Everyone is piled into the kitchen except my 3 year old son still sitting on the couch all nakey n stuff. Just watching me. Im far away on the other side so all was fine. I take the broom and i smack it on the spider. The brushes of the broom hit it so it actually didnt kill or injure the spider. Just pressed him against the wall. I notice this and decide to SMUDGE him across the wall. Hoping that it will be enough to have the brushes of the broom at least injure it so it doesnt run away. Well....this is where all hell breaks lose. I pressed SUPER hard as i swiped the broom across the wall. My logic was i needed to in order for enough bresure of the soft brushes to do anything to the spider. Well, because i was pressing so hard, when i swiped i ended up slipping forward enough that it shot the spider across the living room and RIGHT BETWEEN MY SONS LEGS. As soon as it landed on his downstairs mixup......we all froze. My son slowly looks down and screams. The spider leaped into the air. Over and over trying to get away. My son just sees his weewee with a hand sized huntsman bouncing between his legs like it was on a trampoline. I was on the other side in front of son so it was jumping away from me. It couldnt get a grip on my sons wet skin so it ended up jumping in place. I just remember him screaming while hold still and i see eight legs 3 times go up in the air. Eventually it leaped off him and on the floor. Needless to say it scared him severly. Thankfully he was young. 13 now and we never told him that story.
@@AppNasty Are you in australia? If you are there is definitely alot worse spiders than huntsman spiders and wolf spiders.. There's also worse in brazil where both these species of spiders are also located... Cool stories though, that does sound pretty terrifying to happen to a 3 year old lol..
I'd say found yourself a little arachnid ambassador there. Probably the first human she's ever encountered, yet she was comfortable enough with you that she didn't hesitate for a second to grab an easy snack when it showed up. What an awesome capture!!
Thank you. That's pretty cool. I have found some amazing animals over the years, and consider myself very fortunate to have such encounters with life other than my own!
@@keithsavoie6943 Isn't that if pressure is applied and they're stressed? I mean press down on their back and put a stick infront of them and they will bite it.
@chrisegnoto If you made bumper stickers in the shape of a spider carrying an egg sack saying "babies on board" I would unironically learn how to drive and start a family just to get one.
@@schnabelnugget1066 two of the most friendliest spiders and most intelligent, that you can somewhat train even. that and cats and dogs are the most domesticated animals and most friendliest to us
LOLS! Yeah, my luck is...kind of unique. Great luck with survival and encounters, not so great in every day life, not even kidding! lol. At this point, I have reached level 48...
@@chrisegnoto the circle of life : don’t feel bad - obviously the spider has a lot of young lings to care for. And the fact that the Moths husband is probably sitting home wondering where his wife is - that’s never coming back no one to feed the children he’s not sure whether to leave home himself to get the food or will they all just starve. Goodness me don’t feel guilty😂 I am just kidding🎉 it is just nature flashlight or no flashlight
@@malcolmwhite6588 Incorrect. A flashlight is not a part of the natural lifecycle which is why he said he felt bad. Difference between people like him and you is he will feel bad because he knows that may not have happened. It is nature but it is not natural how it occured.
That's amazing! I need to add a wolfie to my collection, and catching her on camera grabbing a moth while carrying an eggsac?? Like a 1 in a billion chance!
@@chrisegnoto They hurt. They have some large fangs. I'd say just make sure you clean the wound well if it does happen, because unless you're allergic, the most you'll usually get out of it is some localized swelling and itching, and possibly a secondary infection from bacteria on or around the chelicerae.
I avoid spiders so much so I have a special respect for people who go looking for them. Edit: I think I’m within my right to avoid any spiders especially if I don’t know that they’ll bite me or be venomous. 🙄
I've found the fear of spiders to be completely irrational. I'd say people should be more afraid of flies and mosquitoes. Spiders have never attacked me, bothered me. They've never landed on my head or ran over me unless by pure chance. And if they're sitting quietly, they usually remain that way unless something or someone disturbs them. Not the most social animals out there but hey, they're actually very calm and collected animals.
Keep cellar spiders. They're absolutely lethal to other spiders and completely harmless to humans. They'll take out the trash for you if you let them. They'll tuck away in a corner with some dusty webs and handle business
@@resonanceofambition That's exactly what a phobia is, an irrational fear. Honestly, that's what makes it harder for me to get over my fear. I respect then, and I do hate and fear insects that you mentioned as well, but I just get a visceral reaction to anything crawling on me, but I'd hate to kill a spider. I know if one crawled on me, my first instinct would be to swipe it quickly before stopping myself hesitantly, which would likely prompt it to want to bite with the initial panicked movement. Edit: Spiders and house centipedes have crawled on me before as well, even though they're supposed to stay away from humans as much as possible, which doesn't help my fear.
@@masterjunko you're right about phobias...had dolomedes (frikken giant fishing spiders, my buddies around here are close to 4" leg span) make me make embarrassing noises and even tho I know better, I'd really rather not hold them or have them near me without warning haha. House centipedes have too many legs and are too fast, they also freak me out. That being said, I love and respect them both and never harm them intentionally. But lemme tell ya, having one cross a book I'm reading at midnight is key to an out-of-body experience. As in, I'm out, my body's on it's own
I have finally found someone else who feels guilty about an insect dying because of something you did. Most people think I'm crazy because I feel guilty if I accidentally kill something.
My favorite spiders are wolf spiders, jumping spiders, and huntsman spiders. It's cool when a spider actually hunts and stalks its prey without having to bold a web and wait
A female _Hogna carolinensis_ , or Carolina wolf spider. It's definitely a female, because the white protrusion on the rear of her abdomen is the egg sac.
Omg, that was really cool. I love wolfies and that one was such a pretty girl. You were lucky enough to handle it while it's carrying it's egg sac and she even hunted a moth while you're handling it. It doesn't get any cooler than that.
That was incredible! What an amazing interaction, and a great demonstration of your gentle handling skills that she felt comfortable enough to grab a meal on your arm. No one does it like you!
Hey. Thanks so much. I have always been lucky with other living things. I imagine how I was raised and grew up plays a role. And the austism and the way I notice so many little cues and nuances, idk then again, strangers and animals tend to approach me all the time, lol.
Exactly. You might like some of my playlists. I cover things like that and more. I always make sure to include things for those who want to know some of the more unique info, also
oooor, and hear me out now, maybe we could more easily tell by the giant egg sac shes carrying around. lol jk i love it when people help educate others i'm just being snarky.
Such a creepy/cool encounter. Was that an egg sac under her abdomen? If so, I would have had twitching stomach muscles the whole time she was crawling. 🤣
Yes the white ball is indeed an egg sac once they hatch the little spiders will piggy back on her for some time until they grow up to fend for themselves
I have heard that Wolf spiders are almost if not as smart as jumping spiders. Which means that she must had figured out that light in a small area attracts flying insects to the area, so she must think that you are some kind of tree that produce light, maybe.
Wolf spiders really aren't aggressive unless intensely provoked. Like most spiders they're as afraid of you as you are of them. I live in an area that has the Carolina wolf spider and others that look similar, get a bit bigger and are aggressive.
These videos have helped me out alot. They are all over my yard and sometimes in the house. I try my best to relocate them outside but lord have mercy they scare tf out of me because of how fast they are
Well I was afraid of spiders too, untill RU-vid suggested ne a video labled Orange bitey thing. Ir gave me a jumpscare but somehow I got interested in spiders. Meanwhile I want not just one but 2 tarantulas, the brazillin Black and mexican red knee. Look up tarantula happy dance, that's absolutely cute 😅
Good day mate. I love to go to 🇦🇺 it's my 2nd favorite country. Deadliest too. I love 🕷️ but I don't fuck with deadliest 3 on 🌍. Tied a #2 Sydney funnel 🕸 🕷️ and Phoneutria Brazilian wandering 🕷️. #1 deadliest most venomous 🕷️ on 🌍 Is Sicarius 6 👀 sand 🕷️ no antivenom yet. But fangs are small and only found in middle eastern and African 🏜. No normal 🇺🇸 citizen is going to the middle east or northern Africa. And odds of finding 1 is extremely remote.
She is. You should see the other Carolina Wolf Spiders I have filmed. Bright Gray with yellow faces. I think they are in my Spiders of New Jersey Videos
You should come to the Appalachian Mountains! I have spiders like this one, other kinds of wolf spiders and fishing spiders all around my house. We also have large orb weavers.
New River Gorge has spiders that swim downriver in groups numbering in the hundreds of thousands. They almost look like a weird black moss until they drop in and you're surrounded by a whole fkn net of creepy water spiders. Arachnophobes beware
Don't feel sorry for that bug. It's the circle of life and catching something like that, not only on camera but while on your arm is something to be proud of. That was an amazing capture.
