I worked at Le Tourneau and wrote the operational, repair, service, rebuild and field assembly manuals for this model and all the loaders. I have operated one of these machines and it is like driving a house. Glad to be retired!
I work for LeTourneau and helped put this thing together at the mine it is working at near Gillette Wyoming. It is a one off prototype at the moment designed to load coal into 400 ton haul trucks, but if it works out as planned there could be more made like this one. It runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week all year long, It is only shut down for maintenance. It is powered by a 16V Detriot Diesel. Its top speed is about 12 mph. Tires run about $100,000.
I love seeing our products operate in the real world. I am a power unit designer at the company and the engine system is my baby. This is the worlds largest rubber-tired loader and it is used in mining. We ship it in multiple pieces on over a dozen trucks and assemble the machines on location. When you see this thing rolling, it is like seeing a three story house move around the property.
R G LEtourneau was an amazing engineer, first one to fit balloon tyres to earth movers, first one to put electric motors in the wheels and use the engine as a generator....one of the great trainblazers. Good to see his legacy lives on!
Thanks!! Glad you enjoy the vids. Iceland is a place I really want to get to sometime soon. I've a big interest in Volcanoes and would love to be there when an eruption is happening. Next one will probably be Hekla but who knows.
I miss working on these loaders. Never been around a 2350 though. The company I work for cancelled their order for one a few years back because they didn't have enough tires for them.If it's like the 1350 than that loader is in shop mode which gives it enough power to propel without being to agressive. These loaders have 3 modes, idle, shop, and WFO, which means there is no gas peddle. The engine powers a motor generator and various hydraulic pumps. The motor generator powers the elec. wheel motors
Still manufactured in Longview, Texas although the product designation has been changed to the P&H L-2350 since becoming a part of the P&H division of Joy Global in 2011 whose parent company is now Komatsu. The designer, Robert LeTourneau, was the holder of more patents than anyone except Thomas Edison. He also set up LeTourneau University in Longview, which is a fully accredited four year university for degrees in engineering, etc. There is a RU-vid video which shows the inside of the factory in Longview.
@@MatthewHensley8304 I was looking into it later on. And I was wrong... The actual oil tank is around 25 gallons. Which is way less than I thought it would be,way less.
I was talking to the old guy security guard as well. I followed you as you went out the doors with my camera and he kept distracting me by talking about the size of the 2350. The whole convention center during move out was a complete safety nightmare as regards forklifts, people and those scooters everywhere although it was very impressive to watch the professionalism, skill and organization of everyone involved in the move out. I don't get to see that where i'm from ( Ireland)
If you mean where is it now theres a photo of it on my website working if you look in the forum under wheel loaders. Link to the webite is in the video description above.
@@johnseggler4753 about 6 minutes worth of libtard tears ought to fill that 70 yard bucket. Unfortunately we don't have enough of those machines so all the libtard tears are going to cause the oceans to rise and flood out all the poor brown-skinned people of the world living in the low-lying areas. Libtards are always fucking over the people of color of the world.
Some info.................. The P&H L-2350 Wheel Loader (formerly the L-2350 loader) is a loader used for surface mining. It is manufactured by Komatsu Limited. Matheus Martino 100k For each tire. we just went through two of them this month, and it was brought to our attention that we need to start taking more caution to keep less wear on them.
We have 2 1350 at the mine I work at in California, , not quite as big as these but big enough to load our Terax mt 4400 260 ton dump trucks. The shows are to demo new products to customers, these are built and work at mines but the arive in multiple pieces and are assembled at the mine site, as a mechanic the can be a pain with all the electronic gear they have.
LeTourneau uses diesel electric motors for all it's drive systems, has for years. It's a direct drive so no drive shafts. Typically a 12 or 16 cyl CAT engine powers the electric drive on each wheel. Not much use for speed on these machines, but they are quite nimble and maneuverable for their giant size. Just search RU-vid for L2350 operating to see how well they operate.
It's very big, I get that. But I need to see it next to something like a Caterpillar D9 for scale reference, just so I can appreciate how big it really is. And I would love to drive this thing down the 405 freeway during rush hour and just scoop everyone out of my way.
Beautiful piece of heavy equipment, if you have a open and open pit mine. That pay loader would require a fleet of 797F dump trucks just to keep it busy. Also a fleet of diesel tanker trucks for refueling. Sad, but the cost of oil is killing this industry along with everything else.
ppl: "ayy bruh, transform yo wack little slow ass a bit faster please, at least kill us in TIME!" decepticon: "come on man im tryin my best, im new here." ppl: "well too bad, this is your new home and you're gonna have to deal with it." *TOP 10 ANTICLIMACTIC BATTLES*
Yeah its working away somewhere loading wide bodied trucks with coal. There's a pic of it working on my website forum under wheel loaders. Link to the website is in the vid description.
Robert Palmer I did come across a video on youtube once by the trucker who delivered one section of it. He was chaining it down and talking a bit about it.
There is a video somewhere from a trucker who delivered the back end bit of it. It's moved in about 6 separate loads. I'll be at MInexpo again this year and hope to get much better videos including the oversize haulage aspect of things.
How does that exhibition hall floor take such sky high ground pressure? I mean that floor must be built like an airport runway otherwise it would heave or crack.
I really didn't notice you, I was paying more attention to the guy directing me, and all of that scooter traffic. When I wend around that corner and through the bay doors there was an old man ( security guard) that never flinched. After I parked it I went back to him and asked him why he never moved and he told that he was in awe.
Hopefully better to come Allistair. Ive got a bit lazy as of late but hopefully get my finger out come springtime. Conexpos on next year and im planning to spend a month in the states and travel around to a few places.
allistairc123 Another 2 years unfortunately but itll be not long coming round. Over seven weeks booked in the US and Canada beginning March 2nd so hopefully ill be able to acquire a few videos . Sorry i didnt catch your comment earlier Allistair. I get that many i can miss a few. Im sure vyou know how it is!
