You can call me Moe - I currently live and ride in Gunma, Japan. My goal is to get more humans on bikes to explore the Japanese countryside. In particular, it's my passion to encourage more women and girls to go out and ride. Whether you're on a mamachari, a cruiser bike, or a road bike, I think cycling is an amazing way to experience the world - healthy for our bodies and the earth. Plus, it's totally fun :)
I want to inspire international travelers to visit hidden roads, underrated restaurants, and inaka towns when Japan's borders open again. Through my videos, I hope that I'll be able to highlight these off-the-beaten-path places and put them on the map for bike adventurers who visit Japan. If you want to partner with me on this goal, or just wanna go on a ride together, please don't hesitate to DM me on instagram - @moe.cycling

Great stuff guys! My in-laws live in Kanazawa so spend a lot of time in the area. Cycled sections but not the full loop. On the bucket list but your video has now put it at the top of the list. Thanks!

Kanazawa is an amazing city and I would love to spend more time there in the future! We definitely got lucky with weather during this trip - looking at wikipedia weather data, it's hard to imagine being a cyclist in Ishikawa.

I look forward to every time you post a new video, without fail it inspires me to jump on my bike and get out there as well. I hope to one day be able to ride in Japan as well, practicing to ride the shimanami kaido when I get the chance! Do you think you could do a video on your setups when you do long trips like this, I'm aspiring to do long rides too so it would be interesting to see!

I'm planning to ride the Shimanami Kaido later this year as well! Can't wait to share that one. I will definitely think about doing a set-up video, though much of it depends on the person and where they are riding. I learned so much more on an overnight weekend trip than watching hours of youtube! In the meantime though, this video has an overview of my general bike tour set up when I go bikepacking: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t2QHSs0EuLg.html Hope that gives you a good starting point as you plan your upcoming adventure. Happy & Safe Riding!

We are now planning some fun adventures for spring. All the snow is melting from the mountains now so the roads should be ready soon!

Thank you so much - glad you enjoyed this one. I need to remember to take a few more videos of the food. Sometimes we ride in to lunch and we're so hungry it's hard to focus on anything but eating!

Loved this. I live in Thailand and Japan is the first country on my list to visit and tour when we can ore freely travel. Would time be a could time to tour in Japan? Take care and ride safe. JP

Kaaaa! Thank you for watching! If you want to go to Noto (very rainy region), the window of time is narrow - mid April to mid-May is probably the best time of year. For Gunma Prefecture, Mar-June or Oct-Nov are the best times. If you want to minimize riding in the rain, I recommend Gunma. I absolutely love Thailand - hope I'll get a chance to ride there again soon!

Great video. I live in Kyoto and I'm thinking about where I can go on a bike packing trip for Obon. I'm thinking Kansai would be too hot during Obon and I'm looking a places to go further north. I don't have a car so I'd have to take my bike on a train. I was thinking about going by Shinkansen to Hokkaido but it would take too long and be kind of expensive. Do you think the Noto peninsula would be, not cool, but cool enough not to die of heat stroke during Oboan, if I maybe avoided cycling mid day and kept it to early mornings and evenings? Cheers!
@moecycling
@moecycling 2 года назад
Personally, I would not do this route in August! But it all depends on what you're used to. It's probably cooler than Kansai area but still much hotter than being in the mountains. If you're ok with climbing, I recommend cycling in Nagano, which is not too hard to get to from Kyoto. My plan is to ride in the mountain roads of Omachi/Hakuba during that time and cool down after by jumping in one of the many lakes in the area!

@@moecycling yea, I have a relatively cheap gravel bike which really doesn't handle mountains too well... Might just like on the beach for a few days and get out there in the Autumn.

Which month was this road trip? Was the cost of food and hotel reasonable compared toothed places in Honshu?
@moecycling
@moecycling 2 года назад
We did this trip at the end of April. Prices were pretty similar to other parts of Japan. I would budget about 1-2000 yen per meal and 10-20,000 yen per night for a standard hotel for two people.
