It was less than a year. Christmas to July according to Cohn. Koko only asked for it bc they read the gorilla puss n boots often. And you can bet your bottom dollar that your then 13 year language study, already the longest in history, personal fascinations and highly effective persuasion tool would NEVER be allowed to go wandering off. And least of all be hit on a logging road. Much of that entire study had been heavily criticized but that was one of the more universally accepted things the study more than likely fabricated to elicit a genuine remorseful reaction.

@@CYMotorsport It was bunk. Just hearing from the others who worked in the program, was all I needed to hear, after I thought it looked like prompts from her, snd just poor sign language. There’s a few good docs on it, but it was definitely a con. Some of the people think she genuinely believed it for a little while, but then became much more angry, and berating of anyone who doubted things. I know that the ape stopped signing, not long after going to a reserve, at some point. But, there have been people who worked for her, who admitted that they weren’t communicating, or having any real conversation with the gorilla, while also admitting to not knowing if she was, because they just weren’t qualified for the job. Others were overqualified, and felt like they were simply putting a gorilla through a schedule, and taking notes on reactions. Sometimes it’s easy to read what the animal wants, especially after it’s been put on a schedule. It was a lot of testing, snd prompting, designed to achieve the desired outcome, instead of an unbiased one.

@@solrac4512 Actually not weird. Humans are some of the only animals we know that can ask questions, because we can imagine things from others perspectives. Where as a gorilla or a chimp would never think it possible that I for example had information they didn't. IIRC it's called theory of mind.
