We're on our fourth dog now. He's a mix of Border Collie and what's called a Blue Heeler. (Australian cattle dog) The Blue Heeler is related to the wild dogs in Australia called Dingos. This dog is incredibly smart. And because he's a mix of two working dogs, he's non stop energy.

I have a black standard poodle and I've had toy poodles in the past. They are the 2nd smartest breed in the world and just want to be with their families. They don't attack but will always let you know when someone is getting close. The standards are also used for hunting as they retrieve any fowl that's been shot. That's why they get those haircuts that people think look silly. Their fluffy hair( not fur) keeps them afloat when in the water and the hair on their joints is to keep them warm in the cold water. Because of their loving, intelligent nature they make great therapy dogs. In fact prior to my husband's death he was seriously ill for 5 years. His actions were restricted so he couldn't handle a big dog. We got a toy poodle and she became his service dog. She knew him better than he knew himself. She went to the hospital with him often and could always get him to settle down, even when drs , nurses and I couldn't . Sadly for me she died within a year of his death. She was only 6 years old. So I get what you're saying about a dog earning his keep. Some just do it differently than others : ) Peace

Pitbulls are some of the best dogs. I've owned 3 of them it's all how they are raised. They are very protective and do feed off your emotion but are also the biggest snuggle monsters and just love to be loved and make their master happy

Never underestimate a poodle. If I remember right those big, standard poodles are the smartest dogs on Earth, and the two we had growing up could work the ice machine and water on the fridge, open doors, get in and out of the house on their own--we came home one day to find they'd put an inflatable raft in the pool, one was in it and the other was pulling them across the pool with a rope for no reason. Just shits and giggles. They were like a couple of raptors from Jurassic Park. If your house is ever on fire those dogs might even tie bed sheets together to make you a ladder, or who knows what. They're just smart, better to have on your team than people think from looking at them (you just don't give them those crazy haircuts is all and it's good lol).

I have had dogs my whole life and he is 100% right, dogs take their ques from their owners. When I was really young and super high energy I had a dog that was 1/4 german shepherd, 1/4 husky and 1/2 unknown. He looked like a shepherd but had the fur of a huskey, and he was rust orange colored. Because of how I played with him and everything he was super protective and because we were one of the first families on the block in that neighborhood, he thought the whole area was his to protect. Every time he got loose, and he was an escape artist, he would go around and beat down every other dog he could find. I am talking Pits, rotties, dobermans, Danes, you name it. The upside was that door to door salesmen avoided our house like the plague. The downside was that we almost lost him because if anyone came on our property and one of us wasn't there, they were going to get bit. The police actually wanted to take him and train him as a police dog. That was when we found out it was how I was with the dog that made him that way. Ever since I have learned everything I can about dogs and there isn't a dog I have met that I couldn't befriend. You just have to know how dogs think and take their ques.

I've had two Pits raised from puppies and I swear to God they as in any dog it's all in how they are treated. I still have one of them her name is Abbey and the one that passed away was Lucy. I still miss Lucy every day, every. single. day. She died of cancer. My other pit Abbey is about the goofiest dog I've ever seen. If someone is having a bad day she'll make them laugh with her silliness even if you don't want to. Neither has shown the slightest aggression and I really doubt she go all psycho dog and protect us. I know Abbey wouldn't she's very timid and Lucy wouldn't have known what to do. We didn't have them to protect us we had them to be a part of the family. So please remember... NO DOG IS BORN MEAN. PERIOD.
