Why? The only similarities are a male and female, and murder involved. That’s it. True Romance is nothing like the Starkweather and Fugate story, and Natural Born Killers isn’t either. It’s about the way media uses murderers to make money, and used to really turns them into celebrities, or people the poor were cheering for. It’s also about how people like to watch and read about this stuff, snd usually identify with the killers, more than the victims, because it’s just human nature.
Your channel is the only channel that will use someone else's stuff the right way. I'm so sick of people stealing his stuff and just playing clips. You at least do your own work to it, adding news clips and related material.
I know about starkweather from Jake Busey in The Frighteners, which is a great Peter Jackson movie starring Michael J. Fox. Right before Jackson went from campy comedy horror to genius director with LOTR
The people in the documentary were the ones saying that movies like Nebraska and True Romance were inspired by the movie Badlands which is the Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek movie which is about the killer Bill and this documentary is talking about.
Bill does almost no preparation for these bits. A naturally funny guy. Though if he prepped more there could be more jokes but that doesn't matter to his adoring fans.
AND it wasn't Bill's idea--the people in the documentary were the ones saying that movies like Nebraska and True Romance were inspired by the movie Badlands which is the Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek movie which is about the killer Bill and this documentary is talking about.
'Badlands' actually softens the main character from his real-life inspiration. Sheen's role is less bloodthirsty and more sympathetic than the spree killer he was based on. True Romance softens the lead further with him killing his girls' pimp, instead of her father, before they hit the road. While they don't go on a rampage, they do some very illegal shit, and many they're involved with are viciously killed. There are many more stylistic similarities between Badlands and True Romance. If you watch the former and are familiar with the latter you should be able to spot some more.
Starkweather was a romantic massacre for outcasts as fucked up as it is, one of my favorite hardcore bands , Blood for Blood put his picture on their album. Poison Idea's song just get away, and the Frighteners were also loosely inspired by him.
