Because life is just a ride, pancreatic cancer took him to the other place at the young age of 32 saying, "you've done plenty already; you've done excellent, buddy. Time to go home now." We're all going to die someday. Before that day comes for you, count yourself lucky if you ever see through the illusion of this life like Bill did.

I tried to sample this one time on a track I was working on. It's probably one of the most important things ever spoke in the past hundred years. I wrote a letter to his estate asking for permission or what I had to do to get permission. They don't loan his voice out anymore, which was a bummer. But on a positive note, He actually had a really cool brother who was nice enough to talk to me. It was the most polite letdown I ever had, and I just wanted to say that on the record. I first came across Bill Hicks in January 1990 on the TV in the UK. In those days there were only 4 channels and Bill Hicks was pretty big in the UK. He was amazing. Too bad he didn't look after himself more....he had so much more wisdom to give. 32 is too young.

I can just feel the discomfort, the cosmic panic taking place in the audiences' subconscious when he says, "...this has to be real." It's like I sense so much tension when he says that.

I was nine years old when this was recorded. It holds true now as it was ever since he Mr Hicks first said it. Getting lost in the noise of the world, steeping in the b.s. of our fellow humans and falling asleep at the wheel of the car driving toward a climate crisis and burning world. We deserve better, we CAN do better. We have to keep trying and not give up. #mindfulness

I was at a party 18 years old, and through all the noise I noticed this special on TV. I never saw this guy B4 but loved him, caught it in the middle(so I never caught his name) and thought about this comedy special for years afterwards wondering who he was, cause I was blown away with his unique, smart funny style. That was exactly 30 years ago. And i'm still blown away by Bill.

I watched this with my gf in NY. She finished it, jumped from the couch, ran to our bedroom and wrote “it’s just a ride” on the wall by the door of our bed. We broke up a couple years later but i always think about that message “it’s just a ride.”

in 2008 a band called Energy sampled this in one of their interludes on Invasions of the Mind, I'd never heard it and 16 years later this sentiment still lives rent free in my head. Ever since losing my dad and my younger brother in 2017, this bit has made me cry like a baby, thinking of them. I cry,but Bill's logic also soothes me bc the Kantian logic is there...that reality is, quite literally, what we all agree on it being. It's like the scene in The Matrix where Neo visits the guy in the restaurant,and the guy points out that bc it's all illusion, he could take a bite of his steak and have it taste like chocolate.
